Book 1: The Sun and the Spear

Chapter 1: The Sparks of War

  • Yandry of Olivegrove and his skirmish against the Toland forces under Tomas Toland is all kinds of awesome, even if it ends with Yandry's Heroic Sacrifice. It establishes Nymeria and her troops as a force to be reckoned with, as the Toland forces fall into the Martell trap and get defeated without having much of a chance to fight back.
  • Missy has spent a majority of Chapter 1 being pushed around and bullied by King Albin's freaks. As a result, it is downright cathartic to see her finally snap at Ronny, when he confronts her over the death of Matt the Mute, which ends with him being quite violently killed by the girl he has tormented so much.
  • On their way to Gravesend, Myke and Joran stop at a nearby tavern, where they get into a quarrel between Blackmont soldiers and deserters. Intervening in this fight, Myke proves himself a true tough old guy, saving the life of a soldier in the process.
  • Naemon's duel with Alistair Upton is very satisfying to read, as Naemon gets a chance to show off his skills, by dominating the duel despite Alistair's attempt to cheat and the young lord's increasingly violent temper.
  • Forovos Norvoshi's gambit to end the war between House Toland and House Martell before it even fully started and cementing himself as a Magnificent Bastard. To end this war, he sneaks into the Toland camp, kills their high general without being seen and uses his Faceless Men techniques to infiltrate the king's tent under the disguise of said general, killing him and putting the entire Toland army into disarray.

Chapter 2: Kings and Snakes

  • The battle between House Fowler and House Manwoody looks like a clar victory for the Manwoody forces, as the Fowler's are outnumbered and slowly pushed back by the advancing army. All of a sudden, Blackmont reinforces arrive, revealing that Benedict has accepted Garrison's offer of an alliance against the Manwoody's. They proceed to crush the Manwoody army and send them fleeing, ruining Albin's plans to conquer all of the Red Mountains largely in a single battle.
  • On the streets of Godsgrace, Jamison and his mentor Laroy are attacked and heavily outnumbered by a group of thugs who plan to kill him to ruin a possible alliance between the houses Allyrion and Dayne and by extension between House Dryland and Dayne. The following fight is extremely one-sided and expectedly ends with Jamison and Laroy killing all but one of the thugs in a matter of seconds, finally showing off their famous fighting skills.
  • Efran and his force get a villainous one for the way they beat Dianna and her men. Up until this point, Efran has been underestimated in an out of universe, seeming like a minor threat at most. All of a sudden, he reveals his men to be numerous enough to beat the combine Martell and Dalt forces with little effort, with his Ironborn under Bjorn Harlaw being especially deadly, overpowering Dianna and likely shattering the alliance between House Martell and Dalt by forcing Ser Dallin Dalt to retreat.

Histories & Lore

  • The Purple Ocelot's Histories & Lore part, in which he tells the story about his first assassination, which made him Shrouded in Myth in-story. Despite having no prior knowledge about assassin work, he shows incredible intelligence and quick thinking to trick his target, the man that raped and murdered his mother, which ends with him finally getting his revenge.
  • From Jamison's Histories & Lore part about knighthood, there is not only the fact that he won the tourney at Griffin's Roost without any problem, but also the sheer audacity he shows when he humiliates the heir to House Connington during said tourney, on the man's wedding day and then proceeds to seduce the bride, who is none other than the daughter of the Storm King.
