Awesome / Clint Howard

  • In 1998, Clint Howard won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the MTV Movie Awards. Previously, this award was used as a joke (previous winners included Godzilla, Jason Voorhees, and Chewbacca, for example). The joke in 1998 was everyone talking about "Clint" being a fantastic guy and a great actor, allowing everyone to think they were talking about Clint Eastwood when they were actually talking about Clint Howard. Problem is, Clint Howard took the stage to accept the award and was authentically enthused about it. Howard (who had not been told that the award was a joke) got honestly emotional and appreciative and was sincerely proud to receive the award. Almost immediately, executives at MTV retired the award, saying that they weren't going to besmirch the actual honor Howard felt at receiving it by continuing to treat it as a joke.
