  • In the second Lupin short story, he sends his intended victim a letter informing him of the upcoming theft several days ahead of time, naming the exact date when he'll clean him out. While Arsène himself is in prison. The victim takes every precaution he can, even hiring Inspector Ganimard to handle security. On the night promised by the letter, every valuable in his manor is stolen, even as he, Ganimard and Ganimard's men were standing guard. All while Lupin himself was in prison. This turns out to have been one big Batman Gambit: Lupin sent the guy into a panic with his letter specifically so he could manipulate him into hiring a minion posing as Ganimard.
  • In Arsène Lupin vs. Herlock Sholmès, Lupin has Sholmès captured and shipped back to England, timing it so he'll be unable to get back to France in time to interfere with his plans. Lupin then moves on to the next and final phase of his current job... only to find Herlock Sholmès there, waiting for him. Sholmès used sleight of hand to fiddle with the ship captain's watch, tricking him into landing in England early enough for Herlock to catch the last ferry for France. For once, Arsène Lupin is the one left sputtering at the seeming impossibility as he got Out-Gambitted.
