What be this about?: This wiki be a catalog o' th' tricks o' th' trade fer writin' fiction. We dip into th' cauldron o' story, whistle up a hearty spoonful, an' splosh 't in fore o' ye t' devour t' yer heart's content. Tropes be devices an' conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as bein' present in th' audience members' minds an' expectations. On th' whole, tropes be nay clichés. Th' word clichéd means "stereotyped an' trite". In other words, dull an' uninterestin'. We be nay lookin' fer dull an' uninterestin' entries. We be here t' reckon tropes an' play wi' them, nay t' make fun o' them. Th' wiki be called "TV Tropes" on accoun' o' that be 'ere we started. O'er th' course o' a wee voyages, our scope has crept ou' t' include other media. Tropes transcend television. They exist in life, as we be quick t' tell ye. Art in any form does its best t' reflect life, so tropes show up everywhere. We want 'em all. Starboard, so what be a "wiki"?: A wiki be a web site 'ere any user can create new pages, edit existin' pages, link between pages, an' search th' site. Ye can e'en edit this page, if ye wish. This may seem strange, but 't can be an extremely powerful an' flexible way t' take notes, collaborate an' work on th' web. All we request be that ye act responsibly wi' all this power an' follow th' wee rules an' guidelines we be havin'. This be nay Wikipedia. We're a buttload more informal. Thar Be Nay Such Thin' As Notability an' nay citations be needed. If yer entry cannot gather any evidence by th' Wiki Magic, 't will jus' wither an' sink t'Davy Jones' locker. Until then, tho, 't be available through th' Main Tropes Index. We encourage breezy language an' original thought (an' won't object t' th' occasional snarky comment, either). Some o' us be a bit fussy about grammar, but that's jus' on accoun' o' we like words. Go on, be havin' fun... This wiki can be a great resource fer writers t' research ideas.
