->'''B-ko Daitokuji:''' ''A-ko, the depth of my vexation is beyond your comprehension!''\\
'''A-ko Magami:''' ''Today I woke up early. This may never happen again! But you! You! Over a stupid, petty... B-ko, '''YOU IDIOT!!!'''''\\

[[TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture Sometime in the future]], Eiko ("A-ko") Magami -- a teenage girl endowed with absurdly high levels of [[LightningBruiser superhuman strength and speed]] -- attends Graviton High with her [[TheDitz bubbly]] [[ChildhoodFriends best friend]], Shiiko ("C-ko") Kotobuki. Except it means also attending class with Biko ("B-ko") Daitokuji, a beautiful and [[TheOjou mega-rich]] AcademicAlphaBitch who's determined to win C-ko [[RomanticTwoGirlFriendship for her own.]] Which means, having to go through A-ko first. So each schoolday, B-ko attacks her with all manner of HumongousMecha and, eventually, a [[{{Stripperiffic}} revealing]] [[BattleBikini battlesuit]]. And things get ''even more'' more complicated once an alien warship descends upon Graviton City with the goal of capturing one of the girls -- or rather, ''rescuing'' her, as [[RagsToRoyalty she seems to be their long-lost princess]]...

A raucous blend of over-the-top screwball comedy, action, and science fiction, '''''Project A-Ko''''' was one of those films ''everyone'' saw during the prehistory of anime in America, especially because it was one of the first anime films that couldn't be considered an "arthouse" film to get a commercial release in TheEighties. ''A-ko'''s general level of goofiness can be seen in the names of its main characters: "Girl A" (A-ko), "Girl B" (B-ko), and "Girl C" (take a wild guess). There's even another character who simply goes by "D". But despite -- or perhaps because of -- its goofiness, the decades that have passed between its initial release and now have not lessened the influence of (and love[=/=]respect for) ''A-ko''.

''A-ko'' was followed by three [=OVAs=] which continue the story of the film -- ''Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group'', ''Cinderella Rhapsody'', and ''Final'' -- and the two-part AlternateContinuity OVA ''A-ko: Uncivil Wars'' (originally titled, ''A-ko: The VS'').

While not well-known by later generations of anime fans, ''Project A-Ko'' was a huge influence on later comedy-action oriented anime with a female-heavy cast, not least of all ''Anime/MaiHime'' and ''Anime/KillLaKill'' (which with its very similar elements and inspired tone can be considered its SpiritualSuccessor).

Now has [[Characters/ProjectAko a character sheet]] in progress, so all character specific examples go there.

----

! ''Project A-ko'' and its sequels contain examples of the following tropes:

* ActionDressRip: Depicted in the anime's cover art, though it doesn't actually happen until her showdown with D. A-ko narrowly avoids one of her sword swipes, resulting in her fuku being [[ClothingDamage split down the middle.]]
* AffectionateParody: The series was a send-up of just about everything in anime up until the 80s.
* AfterSchoolCleaningDuty: A-ko is assigned to clean the classroom, as punishment [[LateForSchool for being late again.]] It was going well, until B-ko staged a run-in between C-ko and Mari, causing A-ko to [[SuperSpeed tearass across campus]] and [[DestructiveSavior demolish it in her wake!]] Which earned her a harsh reprimand and an even stiffer punishment the next day.
* AgeLift: C-ko is 17 in the main series, but is reduced to only 10 in ''Uncivil Wars''. By contrast, A-ko and B-ko are 16-17 and 17 respectively, but are adults[[note]]with A-ko being 19 and B-ko being 21, according to the DVD extras[[/note]] in ''Uncivil Wars''.
%%* AGlassOfChianti: Captain Napolipolita.
* AliensSpeakingEnglish: The Alpha Cygnans are amazingly fluent in Japanese, though no one ever comments on it in-series.
* AllForNothing: The endings of ''Cinderella Rhapsody'' and ''Final'' render all of A-ko and B-ko's fights over Kei pointless, because [[{{Lolicon}} he only has eyes fo C-ko.]]
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Maruten laments this fact in ''Uncivil Wars'', but considering he's [[BitchInSheepsClothing not that nice of a guy himself]], it's a bit hypocritical.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: A-ko, B-ko, and Ms. Ayumi are all in love with Kei and often squabble over him, except his heart's set on C-ko, who can't stand his guts [[ClingyJealousGirl for taking A-ko's attention away from her.]]
* AllThereInTheManual: Some info about A-ko, B-Ko an C-Ko is only mentioned in artbooks
* AlphabeticalThemeNaming: The names of the three leads can be taken to mean "girl A", "girl B", and "girl C" ; as well as D and "Kei".
* AlphaBitch: {{Subverted}}. While B-ko has the distinction of beauty, vast intellect, and being from a fabulously wealthy and influential family, no one really likes her and wants to see her taken down several notches because of [[RichBitch her inflated ego.]] So the other students rally behind A-ko instead, making her their hero.
* AlternateContinuity: ''A-ko: Uncivil Wars'' takes place in the distant future, on a dune covered alien planet where A-ko and B-ko work and live together as bounty hunters.
%%* AmazonBrigade
* AmazonianBeauty: Liza is rival bounty hunter, from ''Uncivil Wars'', who towers over A-ko and has a huskier physique. And she's dressed in a combination of leather and spandex to show off her ample cleavage.
* AntiVillain: Gail, possibly. His methods are evil, his goal ... [[WellIntentionedExtremist understandable]]. He just bet on the wrong horse.
* BattleBikini: Akagiyama-23 is a power suit, designed specifically to enhance B-ko's speed and reflexes [[BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame to match A-ko's.]] It resembles an armored bikini that includes a matching pair of boots and gauntlets, and is usually worn beneath her clothing.
* BerserkButton: Each of the girls has one:
** For A-ko, it's having to constantly deal with B-ko's gadgets, since it usually makes her late for class. But she also takes pride in her appearance, so even a minor cut her cheek, or ripping her skirt will set her off.
** B-ko can't stand A-ko for monopolizing C-ko's time and hates it whenever A-ko defeats another of her mecha.
** C-ko doesn't like anyone taking A-ko's attention away from her. So she definitely hates Kei and flatly tells him both times he tries to confess his love for her. And she starts to grow concerned when it seems A-ko's begun to enjoy her rivalry with B-ko a little ''[[FoeRomanticSubtext too much]]''.
** And for Captain Napolipolita, it's sobriety.
* {{Bishonen}}: Gail of ''A-ko the VS.'' is a subversion, as when he's wearing his cape he looks quite bishie, but when he takes it off he's actually ''very'' muscular.
* BleachedUnderpants: The series began life as part of the ''Cream Lemon'' series of {{hentai}} before becoming a full-fledged feature film; the hentai short that appears in ''Cinderella Rhapsody'' is actually recycled from the first film's initial storyboards.
* {{BFS}}: D wields one during her fight with A-ko. Except in D's hands, her sword appears normal length. But when A-ko takes it from her, the blade is nearly 1.5 times her body length; excluding the hilt.
* BoobsOfSteel: Liza from ''Uncivil Wars,'' whom A-Ko refers to as "that jiggling juggernaut". Said because she was tough enough to match A-Ko unarmed, with their second fight ending in a draw.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Played with in the [=OVA=]s. In ''Cinderella Rhapsody'', A-ko is looking at "the camera" when she admits she lied. In ''Vs. Blue Side'', A-ko is talking directly to the viewer. Even some of the promos break the fourth wall.
* BrokenPedestal: During a flashback to Gail's younger days, he discovered his mentor (an unnamed nun) had broken her vow of chastity. [[ThisIsUnforgivable He didn't take it well]], to say the least.
* TheCameo:
** [[Manga/YawaraAFashionableJudoGirl Yawara Inokuma and her grandpa]] appear as customers in the burger joint A-ko works at in the third movie.
** [[Manga/{{Akira}} Kenada, Kei, Yamagata]] and his girlfriend are seen with their backs turned, watching the broadcast of the alien invasion in ''Final''. [[FreezeFrameBonus Blink and you'll miss it.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl:
** C-ko is shown to be possessive of A-ko in ''Cinderella Rhapsody'' when A-ko shows up riding on Kei's motorcycle. And has a similar reaction in ''Final'', due to A-ko's escalating rivalry with B-ko.
** B-ko envies A-ko's relationship with C-ko and tries everything from treating C-ko to lavish luncheons, to beating A-ko into submission, in an effort to win C-ko over.
** Whereas A-ko and B-ko are both fiercely competitive over Kei in ''Cinderella Rhapsody'' and ''Final''; causing their already tense rivalry to escalate even further.
%%* CloudCuckooLander: C-ko and Miss Ayumi.
* CulturalCrossReference: Halfway into the first film, A-ko and C-ko watch a horror flick starring [[UsefulNotes/KentuckyFriedChicken Colonel Sanders]] as it's villain.
* CuteBruiser: What else would you call a girl who can heft mecha and toss 'em around like paperweights? Or casually tear chunks out of titanium alloy and circuitry. But she's not all muscle and takes pride in her appearance.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: In ''Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group'' the newspapers the spies use as their "disguises" are titled "Mainichi Daily News". ''Mainichi'' is Japanese for "everyday", making the paper the ''Daily'' Daily News. For a time, this was actually the name of the website of the English version of the ''Mainichi Shimbun''.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: At the end of ''Uncivil Wars'', A-ko asks B-ko [[LampshadedDoubleEntendre "how far"]] Gail managed to get with her. B-ko tells her nothing happened, then smiles vaguely over her shoulder and adds, [[TwoFacedAside "nothing at all".]]
* DistressedDamsel: The Alpha Cygnans kidnap C-ko twice to try to take her home and, in ''Uncivil Wars'', she gets kidnapped again. This time, by Grash and his partner, Liza.
* TheDitz: C-ko (though she does seem to have moments of insight) and Miss Ayumi.
* DoppelgangerSpin: An InformedAbility of B-ko's Max 5000 mecha.
* ExtraordinarilyEmpoweredGirl: A-ko and B-ko's first battle shows they're each capable of smashing through solid walls of concrete and can casually toss tanks several hundred meters.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Liza is a criminal and [[ButForMeItWasTuesday little seems to faze her]], except for when it comes to her partner, Grash. Just the thought of him being dead (or that A-ko was responsible) made her see red... until she saw he was only buried beneath the rubble.
* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: [[spoiler: C-ko]] is revealed to be the lost princess the Alpha Cygnans are searching for in the first movie.
%%* EvilKnockoff
* FanDisservice: We can safely assume ''no one'' wants to [[{{Gonk}} see D]] in a battle bikini, or Mr. Daitokuji wearing a copy of B-ko's battle armor.
* {{Fanservice}}:
** Most of it comes from A-ko. Her opening scene has sunlight filtering through her night shirt, revealing she isn't wearing a bra underneath. And she's often subject to upskirt panty shots; including one instance where a lucky fighter pilot gets an extended look at her undies while she's seated on the canopy of his plane.
** B-ko's seen topless, during her bath scene in the first film. Her battle armor is also form-fitting and leaves little to the imagination.
** In ''Cinderella Rhapsody'', a yuri scene at a movie theater gets preempted by a city-wide evacuation order.
** And near the beginning of ''Uncivil Wars pt.2'', we're treated to an extended [[MaleGaze close-up of A-ko's panties]] while her legs are spread open, due to the cramped space of Maruten's ship cockpit. All seen [[FirstPersonPerspective from his point of view.]]
* FashionShopFashionShow: Late in the third film, A-ko tries on a bunch of different dresses, since B-ko bought the one she'd been saving for and [[spoiler: gave it to Mari]].
* {{Fiction 500}}: The Daitokuji Family is reknowned for their wealth and influence. From the second film onwards, it's even shown that B-ko's father bankrolls Graviton City's defense force and provides them with new aircraft and mecha designs.
* FightingFromTheInside: ''Uncivil Wars'' culminates in C-ko fighting Xena for control over her body. Which provides A-ko with the opening she needs to finally kill Xena.
* FlyingBrick: A-ko is a textbook example, minus the flying part (she flies only when B-ko is carrying her through the air).
* FlungClothing: Which is how B-ko first reveals her Akagiyama-23 battle suit.
* FollowYourHeart: The theme of A-ko's character song from the original film, ''"Follow Your Dreams"''.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** Midway into the first film, B-ko vows to take A-ko on herself even if it means revealing [[NotSoHarmlessVillain her "true power".]] Which you don't actually get to see until ''Cinderella Rhapsody'', when she briefly matches A-ko ''without'' her battle armor[[note]]A-ko runs into B-ko and her friends aboard Napolitalita's ship resort. A fight escaltes once A-ko realizes B-ko was spying on her and was trying to steal what she thought would be her date with K[[/note]].
** Subverted and played for laughs by ''Final''. The prophecy foretelling the end of the world was just a coincidence when the aliens arrived. And Ms. Ayumi wasn't possessed by her charm; [[spoiler: she only did the incantations because she was told it would bring her luck]].
* FreezeFrameBonus: Including some very close {{Panty Shot}}s and some fired missiles actually being soda pop cans (as a ShoutOut to the ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'' film).
* FreudianExcuse: Invoked by the first movie's dub, when A-ko starts complaining about B-ko making her late for class again. B-ko finally reaches [[RageBreakingPoint her breaking point:]]
-->'''B-ko''': ''(angrily, [[TryingNotToCry with tears]])'' ''Is that the only thing you care about?!'' Being a "good girl"?! Charming the teachers?! Well! Obviously it never occurred to you that ''some'' children who just aren't born with the same charm! But what do ''you'' care?? You get to be the heroine, while I'm [[RichBitch the one everyone says is spoiled!]] Okay! If they say I'm the bad girl, ''then that's what I'm GONNA BE!!''
* FunbagAirbag: Played as an OhCrap moment in addition to a gag, as it's A-ko running into Liza after having kicked her through a wall.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent:
** When B-ko's flunkies interrupt her first fight with A-ko, B-ko can be seen in the background signalling them with a pair of paper fans, before quickly putting them away.
** There's a scene in ''Final'' where Ms. Ayumi tells C-ko about her upcoming [[spoiler: marriage meeting]], while they're in the girl's restroom at school. An unnamed brunette can seen using one of the urinals behind them.
** In ''Uncivil Wars'', when A-ko finally catches up to B-ko at Gail's lair, Grash is semi-conscious on B-ko's back. Which causes A-ko to assume they're together, sparking an argument between them. Grash realizes his hands are on B-ko's boobs and sees she's distracted, [[ThanksForTheMammary so he starts groping her]] [[AllMenArePerverts to his heart's content.]]
* GadgeteerGenius: B-ko has a penchant for automotronics, that she can conceptualize a mecha, draw up the plans, and have it up and running the next day. While in ''Uncivil Wars'', she designed a fully armed battle skimmer from the wreckage of their home.
* GirlPosse: Asa, Ine, Ume, and Mari are B-ko's personal [[{{Mook}} mook squad]] and are implied to be her only friends. Though her opening fight in ''Final'' shows [[WithFriendsLikeThese they laugh at her]] behind her back, whenever A-ko's winning.
* TheGlomp: C-ko will often latch onto A-ko's arm, while they're just hanging out with each other. But she's especially prone to it [[SecurityCling when she's scared.]] At that point, she's even willing to glomp B-ko.
* GloryHound: ''Uncivil Wars'' ends with [[spoiler: Maruten]] taking all the credit for stopping Xena and the Dragon God, with no mention of A-ko or B-ko whatsoever. The girls decide to track him down, just before the credits roll.
* GoGoEnslavement: In ''Uncivil Wars'', Maruten promises A-ko that he'll bring B-ko back to life... for a price. Which leads A-ko to assume he wants her body and [[ImagineSpot imagines being doomed]] to a life of [[SexSlave sexual slavery.]] Maruten tells her she's got the wrong idea.
* GoodIsNotNice: Despite B-ko's grudge against A-ko, she's repeatedly shown a willingness to set aside her grievances to help her. At least, for as long as it's mutually beneficial, or if it helps B-ko gain brownie points with C-ko.
* GoodMorningCrono: The first movie begins with a morning radio broadcast as A-ko's getting ready for school.
* {{Gonk}}: Asa is the only one of B-ko's flunkies that can be considered attractive. Ume is short and pudgy with NerdGlasses, while Ine is lanky and has bucked teeth. But Mari and D both look (''and sound'') like muscle bound men wearing lipstick.
* [[TokyoIsTheCenterOfTheUniverse Graviton City is the Center of the Universe]]: In both the sub and the original english dub, the radio show, "Fresh Morning", calls Graviton the high-tech capital of the world because of the captured alien vessel that serves as its central landmark. And their city is the target of both invasions by the Alpha Cygnans.
* HammerSpace: A rare instance where a pair of males use hammers out of nowhere on another male in Final.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: A-ko and C-ko have been friends since gradeschool, though C-ko's attachment to A-ko borders on girl-crush territory at times.
* HugeSchoolgirl: Mari is basically [[FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro]] in a sailor fuku.
* HumanAliens: The Alpha Cygnans, [[spoiler:including C-ko]].
* HumongousMecha:
** Seen frequently throughout the first film, as B-ko's initial plan to crush A-ko, until she designs Akagiyama-23.
** Graviton City's defense force has many of their own, thanks to B-ko's father. Except theirs are mainly used to protect the city from the destruction caused by her and A-ko!
* IconicOutfit: A-ko's Transfer Student Uniform; when CentralParkMedia was publishing [[{{OELManga}} comic adaptations]] of the series, they changed her outfit in their version of ''Uncivil Wars''[[note]](re-titled as ''Project A-ko Versus The Universe'')[[/note]] to the sailor suit to increase sales.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: In ''The VS.'', when A-ko and B-ko realize that [[spoiler:C-ko is FightingFromTheInside of Xena's DemonicPossession]], they attempt this trope -- only to descend into ''enthusiastic'' bickering. [[spoiler:As C-ko watches the two become UnstuckInTime shifting between alternate versions of themselves (including their classic incarnations), she awakens because of her IntrinsicVow: she doesn't like it when A-ko and B-ko fight.]]
* [[ImplacableMan Implacable Girls]]: Covered in the NoOneCouldSurviveThat entry further down, 'cuz both of them did!
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes:
** Akagiyama-23 is a sleek battle armored bikini.
** A-ko and B-ko get redesigned outfits in ''Uncivil Wars'', that consist of leotards, boots, and knee pads.
* InTheirOwnImage: Xena and Gail's plot is to use the Dragon God to destroy the current "degenerate" universes, in order to create a new one where everyone is pure.
* {{Jerkass}} :
** B-ko is initially the antagonist to A-ko, who recounts how she used to bully C-ko when they were younger. Most of the students at Graviton High share A-ko's opinion, which makes her their hero for standing up to B-ko.
** However, ''Uncivil Wars'' reverses their roles by making A-ko the selfish one, who's [[OnlyInItForTheMoney only motivated by greed]] and [[ItsAllAboutMe personal gain.]]
%%* {{Joshikousei}}
* LadyLooksLikeADude: Mari, D, and Ms. Napolipolita all look and sound like men in drag.
* LargeHam: Xena's monologues become increasingly melodramatic, especially once she [[spoiler: reaches the Talhoe Sector]].
* LateForSchool: Used as a running gag throughout the first film, with A-ko always being late for class due to oversleeping, or because of B-ko picking fights with her. It continues to be a regular occurrence in the subsequent films.
* LawyerFriendlyCameo: [[spoiler:By Superman and Wonder Woman, nothing less,]] and not a very subtle one.
* LethalChef: C-ko, even realizing it when she tries her own cooking.
* LeotardOfPower: A-ko and B-ko's attire in ''Uncivil Wars'' has them wearing leotards, though A-ko's includes a removable skirt.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Kei falls hard for C-ko from the moment he sees her, whereas she can't stand his guts.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: B-ko's "Akagiyama Missiles", as well as several spaceships in the series.
* MadeOfExplodium: Most of B-ko's mecha are afflicted with this, as are almost all mecha that A-ko fights. (Or maybe A-ko has tactile thermokinesis.)
* MadeOfIndestructium: By ''Final'', the desks in classroom 2-E are made of this. Good thing too, as the students have learned to use them as cover. Too bad the rest of Graviton High didn't get that upgrade.
* MeaningfulName:
** As seen in A-ko and C-ko's introduction at school and the credits, the main characters' names are all written with kanji that reflect something about them. A-ko uses the first character of ''Eiyuu'', or "hero" and she's certainly heroic; B-ko uses "beautiful", as in ''{{Bishounen}}'' and she stands out for her looks.
** Maruten literally means "ball head" in Japanese; Maruten's cranium is approximately the size and color of a tennis ball.
* MileLongShip: The initial shots of the aliens' ship are carefully blocked to make it appear to be about the size of SpaceBattleshipYamato. (Which it resembles quite a lot. Not by accident.) [[spoiler: Later we get to see the whole thing. The "Yamato" part is its ''figurehead.'']]
* MoeCouplet: C-ko looks and acts so much younger than A-ko, that she can be easily mistaken for being a kid. Which creates the impression of A-ko being her protective 'big sister' whenever she defends C-ko.
* NaiveEverygirl: * While C-ko is not a saint, she is innocent and optimistic, and she believes in love and friendship. Instead of the standard bullies, she has [[WeirdnessMagnet weird shit happening to her]] at times. Though she doesn't seem to be too insecure about her body, she does have issues with being alone. She also has the "lovesick girl" aspect as well.
* NewspaperThinDisguise: One OVA has an entire flock of spies in identical trenchcoats reading newspapers while observing everyone and waiting for a signal.
* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: Seen near the end of ''"Final"'', when B-ko's battle armor loses power and sends her and A-ko plummeting back into Earth's atmosphere. Not only do both girls survive burning upon reentry, they're not even fazed by it! Instead, B-ko [[CasualDangerDialog calmly quips about it]] being [[TogetherInDeath "a lovers' suicide"]] [[SarcasmMode with A-ko]], mere moments before they slam into the surface. After a brief cutaway scene, A-ko is shown back at home, where she collapses on her bed, with no sign of injury other than her slighty tattered uniform. Whereas B-ko is seen staring wistfully at the night sky from her veranda, in her nightgown... and is perfectly fine.
* ObliviousToLove: {{Downplayed}} as Liza isn't very outspoken about her feelings, but when she thought A-ko and B-ko were responsible for the death of ''[[FreudianSlip "her Grash"]]'', she was overcome with rage. As soon as she saw he was still alive, [[CryIntoChest she broke down in tears.]] Except he had no idea why.
* OjouRinglets: The pair of locks that frame the sides of B-ko's face are curled.
* OneGenderRace: The Alpha Cygnans are an interesting variation of this trope. They're all female, but some of them--such as D and Captain Napolipolita--look, talk, and act male. Looking carefully can reveal that they're female early into the first movie.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: In ''Uncivil Wars'' B-ko has to bring up the possibility of profit in order to convince A-ko to help her rescue C-ko. As the future heiress to the Kotobuki fortune, her father would likely pay a considerable sum for her safe return. [[spoiler: Or would've, IF he hadn't overreacted by spending his entire fortune on her rescue operation]].
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] in the first film when B-ko narrowly avoids an incoming missile and accidentally drops A-ko.
-->'''B-ko:''' "A-ko! <pouts in disappointment> I wanted to have the pleasure of finishing you myself. ''<{{beat}}>'' Oh well, can't have everything."
* {{Otaku}}[=/=]OtakuSurrogate: C-ko displayed shades of this from time to time. Prominent examples include:
** Her remark (in the Japanese version) about Miss Ayumi [[Anime/MagicalAngelCreamyMami reminding her of someone]].
** On the Final Concert album, C-ko's solo song is basically a medley of old anime themes.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: The Dragon God in ''Uncivil Wars'' is gigantic (it seems to grow at least as large as a planet), with three heads, and it's so powerful that it wipes out a number of planets and their defensive fleets with little effort.
* OutlawCouple: Liza and Grash. Liza is [[TheBrute the muscle]] and is described by Mr. Kotobuki's assistant as [[BloodKnight "incredibly violent"]], which she demonstrates upon meeting A-ko and B-ko. Grash is the more level-headed of the two and seems to be just a BadassNormal toting a rifle and grenades in contrast to Liza's superhuman strength, making them an inversion of GuysSmashGirlsShoot. The couple aspect is a bit one-sided in that Liza is devoted to Grash, but Grash is ObliviousToLove.
* PantyShot: Most of them come from A-ko.
* PapaWolf: Attempted by C-ko's father in ''The Vs.'', [[spoiler: but all he ends up accomplishing is bankrupting his company with his massive and fruitless search & rescue effort.]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Applies to both A-ko and B-ko, due to their excessive power; especially once they start fighting. From the second film onwards, the city creates a special detachment of their defense force specifically to limit the ensuing destruction. By the time of ''Cinderella Rhapsody'', they even issue an emergency evaction order over the city's PA system, once A-ko and B-ko start fighting aboard Napolitalita's ship!
* PimpedOutDress: In ''Vs'', B-ko wears one as a disguise. A-ko comments on how odd that is, since they're trying to break into the villain's lair, not attend a party.
* PlayboyBunny: The waitresses in ''Love and Robots'', and B-ko in an alternate universe in ''vs''.
* PleaseWakeUp: A-ko to B-ko after Gail blasts her with his powers near the end of the first half of ''The Vs.''
* PoweredArmor: B-ko's is more like a powered bikini. Also, [[FanDisservice her father has a similar one]].
* PowerIncontinence: Guess which two?
** A-ko often forgets her own strength and usually leaves disaster in her wake, such as when she's late for school. Her speed is so excessive, it creates an aftertow that tears up the asphalt. And if she removes [[PowerLimiter her wristbands]], [[spoiler: simply flicking her wrist creates fissures]]!
** She isn't the only one, as ''Cinderella Rhapsody'' reveals B-ko's capable of similar feats [[spoiler: even without Akagiyama-23]]. By simply flicking her wrist, she [[spoiler: created [[RazorWind a wind gust]] that carved a trench through the hull of Napolitalita's ship]]!
* PowerLimiter: A-ko's bracers are revealed to be these in ''Cinderella Rhapsody''.
* PrincessesPreferPink: [[spoiler:C-ko]] is seen wearing pink often.
* PsychicLink: In ''The Vs.'', A-ko and B-ko seem to have one, as A-ko knows something has happened to B-ko after [[spoiler: Gael shoots an energy beam through her chest.]]
* PsychoLesbian: B-ko.
* RagsToRoyalty: [[spoiler:C-ko]].
* RantInducingSlight: A-ko delivers one of these when B-ko has MechaMooks ready when she gets to school early for probably the only time in her life. C-ko calling Liza "granny" in ''A-ko the VS''. C-ko wasn't trying to insult her, most likely Liza's over-sexualized appearance implies "older" to the childish C-ko.
* RedshirtArmy
* ReferenceOverdosed
* RestrainingBolt: A-ko's wristbands reduce her powers to ''almost'' manageably safe levels.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: The whole series plays with this trope. A-ko is shown several times to be hurt by fairly mundane things...before she kicks a giant robot without hurting her leg. Her super endurance must only work when she's fighting. The RuleOfFunny fully applies here.
** ''Project A-ko'': She hits her thumb with a hammer (she probably isn't using her super strength there) with full cartoonish reactions, which are just as easily forgotten, and she trips on an ordinary piece of flawed sidewalk.
** ''Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group'': She tires out after failing to get a piece of the Alpha Cygnian ship back in place. The pool incident doesn't count as "mundane".
** ''The VS'': She gets a cartoonish injury from being bonked by B-ko's hammer.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: A-ko and C-ko, much to B-ko's chagrin.
* RunningGag: A-ko constantly runs over D on the way to school.
* SamusIsAGirl: The Alpha Cygnans are all female -- including D and Captain Napolipolita, both of whom look, sound, and act male.
* SandIsWater: The desert planet where A-ko and B-ko are living in ''the VS''.
* SchoolgirlLesbians: B-ko is this... sort of.
* ShaggyDogStory: The [[{{Anticlimax}} anticlimactic]] introduction of the Max 5000.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: Non-romantic version (and possibly an [[InvertedTrope inversion]] as she's a childhood ''enemy'' rather than a ForgottenChildhoodFriend)- according to A-ko's flashback to their childhood, she and C-ko back then used to look more or less like chibi-versions of their present day forms. B-ko, on the other hand, was described (accurately) by A-ko as having a "basin haircut, piggy eyes and dumpy legs" but grew up into easily the most beautiful of the three girls (A-ko is an AmazonianBeauty and C-ko is TheCutie, but B-ko is more clasically gorgeous). No wonder A-ko didn't recognise her at first.
* ShoutOut: More than can easily be counted...
** [[spoiler:A-ko's parents are apparently Comicbook/{{Superman}} and WonderWoman.]]
** [[spoiler:B-ko's father when he appears bears some resemblance to [[Comicbook/IronMan Tony Stark]]]].
** Captain Napolipolita is pretty obviously supposed to be a parody of ''Anime/CaptainHarlock'', in the same way that the bow of the Lepton mothership looks like the ''Arcadia''. Alternately, Napolipolita is Leader Dessler dressed like Captain Okita, flying [[Anime/SpaceBattleshipYamato the Yamato]].
** The lead heroine from ''Manga/YawaraAFashionableJudoGirl'' briefly appears in the third movie.
** The title itself is a reference to the Creator/JackieChan movie ''Project A''.
** The design of teacher Ms. Ayumi is a Shout Out[=/=]{{Homage}} to magical girl series ''Anime/MagicalAngelCreamyMami''.
** Mari, B-ko's underling, looks (and fights) like [[FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro]] with pigtails.
** The plot of the first movie is a [[BroadStrokes rough]] re-hash of ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross''
** The weaponry in the first movie includes transforming mecha, a WaveMotionGun, and [[MacrossMissileMassacre Macross Missiles]].
** [[Film/GhidorahTheThreeHeadedMonster Ghidorah]] is first referenced in ''Cinderella Rhapsody'' in one of the outfits A-ko tries, and the Vs.'s Three-Headed Dragon God is an obvious reference.
** The movie that A-ko and C-ko watch, in which [[UsefulNotes/KentuckyFriedChicken Colonel Sanders]] ominously walks out of the shadows, is a parody of the 1983 movie version of ''Anime/GenmaWars'', known in the West as "Harmagedon".
* ShownTheirWork: Alpha Cygni, more commonly known as Deneb, is a real star. Estimated distance from Earth is 1,550 light years, with a 10% margin of error.
* SmallGirlBigGun
* SpacePolice: The Space Patrol from ''The Vs.'' were presumably this. They were nearly wiped out by Xena and her followers, and Maruten is [[spoiler: supposedly]] the only one left. [[spoiler: see Blatant Lies.]]
* SpoiledBrat: C-ko has shades of this in ''The Vs.''
-->'''C-Ko:''' I'M BORED, I WANNA PLAY A GAME '''NOW!!!'''
* StockholmSyndrome: B-ko starts to fall for Gail in ''The Vs.'', even though he's obviously a religious fanatic bent on destroying every universe (not to mention the fact that he ''killed her'' earlier in the story).
* SubvertedTrope: PlayedForLaughs. [[spoiler:The climax of the fourth video shows that all the supposedly ominous signs, apparently connected by the hexagram symbols, were all just a bunch of coincidences.]]
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: A-ko's gold-amber eyes are a sign that she's not exactly a normal human.
* SuperHero
* TechnicolorEyes: Liza's eyes are silver, indicating she's not a regular human, like A-ko's SupernaturalGoldEyes.
* ThemeNaming: The three main characters; the gag is that such naming is indicative of extras, not main characters.
* ThirdPersonPerson: C-ko in the Japanese version.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: C-ko is the "child" as the innocent and childlike figure, A-ko is the "wife" since she is the protective big sister figure looking after C-ko, and B-ko is the "seductress" since she has a curvy figure with penchant for wearing a revealing power suit and [[SchoolgirlLesbians has a]] [[PsychoLesbian certain obsession]] [[RomanticTwoGirlFriendship with C-ko]].
* TokenYuriGirl: B-ko Daitokuji. Possibly unintentional; the director admitted in an interview for the US DVD re-release of the film that he didn't think about how the scene featuring B-ko in a giant bath, thinking about C-ko, could be interpreted. Which is kind of confusing, because it looks to all the world like B-ko is [[ADateWithRosiePalms touching herself]] while thinking about C-ko. Based on the differences between the dubbed and subtitled versions, if it was unintentional it can only be because it's so common in the genre that it got put in without being thought about. The dub takes this aspect of the complicated relationship between A-ko, B-ko, and C-ko out, and makes C-ko seem a bit weird and creepy as a result. Alternately, it isn't so much unintentional as it is a leftover from when the film was supposed to be part of the ''CreamLemon'' series of erotic films, where indeed B-ko was infatuated with C-ko.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: A-ko (tomboy) and C-ko (girly girl); A-ko and B-ko (girly girl).
* TransferStudentUniforms: A-ko and C-ko wear these throughout the film; they switch over to the proper uniforms at the end of the film, then wear them regularly in the sequel [=OVAs=], though A-ko does switch back to her IconicOutfit for the climatic battle in ''Final'', apparently just for the express purpose of irritating B-Kko (in which she succeeds.)
* TransformingMecha: But with poor planning on making the cockpit work in both forms.
* TronLines: The elevator in the alien ship.
* UnknownRival: B-ko starts out as this to A-ko.
* VillainousBreakdown: B-ko.
* WardrobeMalfunction: A-ko, often. When she is particularly embarrassed, one of her bra straps will slip down her shoulder, often with some of the shirt accompanying it. She also often gets into situations that become an innocent PantyShot, not that she takes it that way.
* WaifFu: A-ko is only the size of an ordinary teenage girl but is strong enough to destroy everything around her.
* WaveMotionGun
* WeirdnessMagnet: Whenever C-ko is the DistressedDamsel, it's usually because she's this.
* WhipItGood: "Black Jacovini Shooting Star Lash!"
** WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Played with? That whip? B-ko apparently never picked it back up after A-ko kicked it out of her hand. She uses a whip again when she and A-ko are bickering in ''Vs.''
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Gail from ''the Vs.'' fits this trope due to his callous disregard for the trillions that will die when he and Xena carry out their plan to create a universe by wiping out the current one with the Dragon God.
* WitchSpecies: Gail and Xena in the Vs. continuity. Maybe C-ko.
* WholeCostumeReference: B-ko's father dresses like Elvis when he pilots a mecha.
* WingdingEyes: When Maruten is trying to convince A-ko to help him defeat Gail, Xena, and the Dragon God, he's unable to sway her until he mentions the reward, whereupon A-ko gets dollar and yen signs for pupils, and says, quite deadpan, '''[[OnlyInItForTheMoney "It is my duty."]]'''
* [[ManChild Womanchild]]: If you see 17-year-olds as women, C-ko fits this, as she has the personality, innocence, and vulnerability of a child. She is also small and cute, adding to this effect.
* WouldHurtAChild: Liza in ''The Vs.'' doesn't hesitate to slap C-ko around when C-ko [[RantInducingSlight calls her "Granny".]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Very common, even a lot of the unnamed civilians have blue hair. For named characters: Miss Ayumi has light blue hair, D has dark blue hair, B-Ko has bluish-silver hair, and Grash in ''The Vs.'' has dark blue ShonenHair.
