Analysis / Kickin' It Old School
Nice try. Kickin' It Old Skool demonstrates why so many writers of non-sci-fi stories reach for the Time Travel Phlebotinum. It desperately wants to be a lighthearted romp through Generation X nostalgia but by using a Convenient Coma, winds up repeatedly hitting its' head on the basic unfunniness of its' core premise. Viewers are constantly reminded that the protagonist missed out on 20 years of his life, bankrupting his family with medical bills in the process; this is never explored in any dramatic depth, though-hey look, remember Garbage Pail Kids!-but thorougly undermines it as a comedy.
