* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Doctor Whooves and Derpy Hooves. Although both of them are quite energetic but for different reasons. The Doctor is quite enthusiastic in his intellectual endeavours (making him the savvy one) while Derpy's fanon characterization emphasizes on her [[IncrediblyLamePun bubbly]] personality.

Discord and Screwball as father and daughter is a popular fanon relationship between these two characters. How this came to be[[note]]like how Discord can have a daughter of a different species--though this is [[RealityWarper Discord]] we're talking about here so it makes this question moot.[[/note]][[note]]or how the fandom came up with this conclusion in the first place.[[/note]] is still under research. It seems to come from the fact that Screwball only appeared during Ponyville's "[[BuffySpeak chaos-ification]]", her [[ExoticEyeDesigns out of the ordinary swirly eyes]], her [[IncrediblyLamePun screwy]] behavior, her suspiciously accurate cutie mark[[note]]which consist of a baseball and two screws which begs the question on how a pony could get such a cutie mark and how being screwy is a talent[[/note]], and her physics defying means of locomotion[[note]]though this might be just Discord's altered version of Physics™ in the works[[/note]].

Who Dinky's father is is up in the air and most fans have their own interpretation. The most popular male pony to be shipped with Derpy was another background pony known as Doctor Whooves. Due to the pairing's popularity and the fact that both their last names sound the same when pronounced[[note]]That is, if you [[SpellMyNameWithAnS actually call him "Whooves"]][[/note]] has spawned the notion that he may be in fact be Dinky's father albeit an adoptive one, seeing as Doctor Whooves is an earth pony. However, with the episode "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E12BabyCakes Baby Cakes]]" showcasing that ponies can have children outside their race (albeit rarely), him fathering a unicorn daughter is not impossible.

* FaceOfTheBand: Being the most popular pony within her band, many fans think of her as this.

* PeekABangs: Some artists get creative and hide her other eye with her bangs to make her look beautiful without changing the fact that she's cross-eyed.

* NamesTheSame:
** Her toy name "Golden Harvest" shares its name to [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Harvest a film company of the same name]]. Golden Harvest happens to have produced many Creator/BruceLee and Creator/JackieChan movies. Depictions of her in a [[StockCostumeTraits martial artist's getup]] and/or [[http://ponibooru.413chan.net/post/view/79784 the company's logo]] became a brief trend when the toy was released.
** She also shares her fandom name of "Carrot Top" with the American comedian known as [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrot_Top Carrot Top]]. Which may explain why she is named differently by Hasbro.

As mentioned in the Doctor Who Ponies folder, Rose is sometimes seen as an {{Expy}} of... [[NamesTheSame Rose]]. Not as popular as you'd think, but there's still some fanworks featuring Roseluck with the Doctor.

* CoolPet: While rare, fanart exists where she has a pet. This pet is a chameleon. This is most likely due to both sharing wonky eyes.

The name is a reference on how most [=DJs=] use an AwesomeMcCoolname alias as their stage names.

* ForcefulTransformation: If the fanon that Doctor Whooves is the Doctor in pony form is to be believed.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Fanfics have been written about why Derpy acts the way she does, but it'll never really be fully explained. Derpy's just... "derpy". This is mostly due to the fact that anyone who tries to give her an actual disorder (such as logorrhea or word-salad) usually ends up getting the details wrong.[[note]] Some fanfics have Derpy speak in gibberish but be able to write brilliantly. In reality, this does not happen because the parts of the brain that govern speech and writing are adjacent, so an inability to speak correctly ''will'' translate into a problem with writing.[[/note]]

* BalefulPolymorph: If the fanon that Doctor Whooves is the Doctor in pony form is to be believed.

Fans can't decide on Doctor ''Whoof'' or ''Whooves''[[note]]though "Whooves" is arguably more common[[/note]], but the pun remains the same. We mostly use Whooves on Wiki/ThisVeryWiki because the [[TheMerch WeLoveFine shirts]] use it, and [[http://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/jwp94/im_jayson_thiessen_supervising_director_of_mlpfim/c2fq2na according to director Jayson Thiessen]], the show's staff have also started to call him Doctor Whooves (though it isn't clear if he specifically meant Whooves, or just the Whoof/Whooves names in general). It's "[[IAmNotShazam The Doctor]]" anyways.

Caramel being depicted as a straight heterosexual stallion is not unheard. There seems to be shipping trend between him and Twilight Sparkle (next to her is Applejack). Why is this so is still under research and the rest of the details will be put in the relationship section when enough data and information has been gathered. This interpretation of Caramel was further strengthened when we see Caramel nose rubbing[[note]]Which seems to be the equivalent of humans kissing[[/note]] with a mare in "Hearts and Hooves Day".

* AwesomeMcCoolname: Whoever coined and popularized the FanNickname "Sir Colton Vines III" for Daisy's male companion [[AllThereInTheScript Goldengrape]] deserves a brohoof.
* [[ThirdPersonPerson Third Person Pony]]: Before "A Canterlot Wedding" gave [[AllThereInTheScript Twinkleshine]] more non-third-person speaking lines, some fans theorised that she was Moondancer herself (despite the fact that Twinkleshine is very clearly seen in the pilot speaking an aside in the first person after inviting Twilight to Moondancer's party, meaning there is no way she could be Moondancer). Naturally there's a fancomic of her meeting Trixie.

''Friendship Is Magic'' is a show with LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters. That applies doubly when it comes to the background characters, the regular ponies who have little to no bearing on the show's plot, but would certainly have a life outside of whatever the mains are doing. Thus, it is only natural for the more popular background ponies to end up acquiring a boatload of recurring fanon characterization, standardized over time by general agreement.

* AscendedFanon: [[spoiler:Towards the final season, Lyra and Bon Bon were increasingly depicted in canon with greater RomanticTwoGirlFriendship overtones. This came to its climax in the season 9 episode [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS9E23TheBigMacQuestion "The Big Mac Question"]], where they are shown mutually proposing to each other. In other words, they're no longer implied girlfriends, they're explicitly fiancees in canon.]]

* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: This is inevitable in a female-dominated show.
