Administrivia: Images In Wiki Pages

Watch the filesize and dimensions of the image. For the majority of cases, over 300 pixels wide is too much. Smaller images are better—some people don't have good resolution.

All URLs ending in .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, and .png are automatically treated as image placeholders. To place an image inside a wiki page, simply enter the address (URL) of the image you want to include. For example, the URL

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_pop_tart_blow_torches.gif

displays in the text as

Watch out for bulleted lists when adding an image.

For many cases, though, there's a better option: the quoteright box. Using

[[quoteright:57:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_pop_tart_blow_torches.gif]]

(57 being the image width) puts the image on the right.

Using externally-hosted images is forbidden. Instead, use the Media Uploader

tool to upload the image to TV Tropes. You will have to Get Known

to enable uploading. Uploaded images will show up on the Images List

Images may be specified as the target of a link using the double brackets markup by specifying an image URL or Wiki Word as the text for a link. For example,

[[http://www.pmichaud.com/toast http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_pop_tart_blow_torches.gif]]

causes the image on the left to link to the Strawberry Pop-Tart Blow-Torches page (welcome to the Internet, I guess).

Linking to Wiki Words is the same way:

[[{{Administrivia}} http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_pop_tart_blow_torches.gif]]

generates the picture on the left. Note: If you link a picture to a Wiki Word that does not exist, the image will not show on the main page (though it will still appear in the history).

When adding links like that, make sure that the image file's extension is NOT capitalised. Otherwise, you'll just get something like
