Back in Harmony Theory, Twilight's introductory note discusses the resonance from all six Elements required to unlock the Magic of Harmony, and notes this as a possible foreboding hint of their nature; what sort of thing do you keep behind a door with six locks?
The travelers have a bit of a breather, with Dash demonstrating some weather work- specifically the first artificial rainbow in eight centuries. Then they destroy it almost immediately so not to leave a trail (or rather, Dash lets Star do it to make up for having to do it at all).
The pegasi head into a town for lunch while Astrid goes hunting, and Dash (after being hit with I Want My Jetpack) is soon shocked by her first glimpse of the "Direct", universally readable talent glyphs most ponies have in place of the more familiar cutie marks, as opposed to her own or Star's "Abstract Glyphs". She flies off to find Astrid and clear her head, and Star reflects on how easy it would be to believe that she really was from the past, if the histories weren't so clear that the hero Rainbow Dash had died... peacefully, in bed, from old age.
Huh.
The group finally approaches the Solar capital, as they continue the discussion on talent glyphs vs. cutie marks, and Star notes the latter is one of the only concepts Dash has been unable or unwilling to properly translate into Solar (the other being Discord, which Star doesn't know anything of either...). A brief encounter with city guards reveals that Star is technically a noble, having been adopted by Professor Twinkle Shine in order to develop her Magic Talent, since as a rule only unicorns are part of nobility and allowed to learn magic (in fact, Star's Talent is not widely known). And the group heads off to take shelter for the night....

The Professor will have to wait, though, as Star and Astrid are summoned the next morning by their spymaster for debriefing, and Star manages to allow Dash to accompany them- as long as she keeps her mouth shut and doesn't get involved....
