William, seemingly once again walking under his own power, albeit not free, goes along with his captors as part of his plan. Apparently, he's not all that bothered when Horus employs Electric Torture on him, although perhaps he's fortunate, considering that Jupiter would have tortured him to death and raped his corpse, possibly for no reason, as he did to Annabeth.
Horus orders Carter to take William to his cage, and Carter complies. After engaging in some pondering about black people's misdeeds that is more overtly racist than Mein Kampf, William realizes he should try to convince Carter to help, and gives him a conversion speech. Carter laughs it off, saying that he'll be rewarded when Horus takes over the country, and is gone by the time William makes a rebuttal.
Not long afterward, Carter comes back, and curses Horus for reneging on his promise and saying America. According to Carter, "bad things" happened to him in America, but he vehemently refuses to elaborate (they have to be, for Carter to go over to the enemy so easily). Thankfully for him, William is less interested in finding out than enlisting him in killing Horus. Carter agrees, freeing William from his prison and telling him that Horusis going to the Nome, thereby making the possibly the easiest Heel–Face Turn of all the enemies who didn't immediately convert.
