AotS Chapter 2: Freeze, Prayer Warrior Scum!

Written By: Thomas
POV: Willian

As William continues to listen in on Carter Kane and Horus, he gets a bit scared by Horus' "house" head (given that he has a head of a bird, I'm not sure what the author's trying to say), but reassures himself that he's only that way because he's using black magic. William prays for God's help in shooting Carter and Horus dead, but perhaps he should have wished for the advantage of stealth, since it turns out that Horus has noticed him. Horus then orders Carter to capture William and make him his pet.

While disgusted by Horus' evil voice and Carter worshipping him (something that William knows would send him to hell in spite of his fighting for the cause in The Evil Gods Part 2), William wisely decides to retreat from this situation, but Carter catches him and freezes him with magic. Suspecting that he's doomed, William prays for mercy and salvation, but Carter, casually dropping an F-bomb as a sign that he's evil (something the Prayer Warriors have also done themselves) declares that he'll make William his pet.

Carter drags William away, and he tries to resist, but can't- not because the freezing spell is still active, but because Carter is black, meaning, in the Prayer Warriors' eyes, that he is very strong and highly untrustworthy, meaning that the racism from Threat of Satanic Commonism has reared its ugly head again. William begins to despair, but realizes that he can outsmart his enemies if they take him to the Nome. It's an interesting change of pace to force the Prayer Warriors to outthink their enemies, even if their victory seems inevitable.

Next Installment: The Prayer Warriors arrive in England.
