Chapter 22: Birdcalls by Night
The camp is attacked by Sammael’s forces, but they’re swiftly beaten back by the defenses. After Mat gets a Crowning Moment Of Awesome single-handedly killing a Fade, he starts wondering what the point was, as not nearly enough people were sent to beat them. It’s actually a distraction so a pair of Draghkar can go after Rand, but Aviendha saves him. Talking with Asmodean, Rand suspects Sammael is trying to bait him into an attack, which he’s somehow sure he’ll win.
Some interesting structure here, with Mat and Rand’s points of view covering the same time period. I don’t think that’s been done before in the series. The fight is rather perfunctory, but then, that’s exactly the point this time, so it works better than some others.

You'll get a lot more simultaneous viewpoints later, although usually not as obviously so.
