Well this isn't good.

Narshen and Brenya have attacked the Lycian Alliance fortress in Araphen, and have apparently decimated it. This does not bode well for the outcome of this war, especially if it only took two people (of which there are three with this kind of power) to take them all out.

Cut to Bern forces, and we see Zephiel and Brenya talking about having captured the enemy leader. Then comes Hector, who is pretty messed up, what with actually bleeding and all that. The two chat on motives, Hector questioning why this war happened and Zephiel simply stating he must "liberate" this world. Hector is taken away, and then Brenya says she will return to Sacae, but not before bringing up some info on an "Idoun", whom some call a Dark Priestess and are wary of. Zephiel quells her fears, and sends her on her way.

Roy's group is meanwhile outside of the fort, and Roy is chatting with a spiky haired kid named Chad, who has seen Hector being brought there. Chad warns us against going in, but Roy believes we can win. After some more talking, Chad decides to help us with his thief-y skills. Guinevere then apologizes for Zephiel's warmongering, but Roy assures her that things will be alright, so long as they save Hector.

And so starts chapter 3, Late Arrival!

Quick look at the new guy, Chad is pretty wimpy, with low strength, skill, and defense, but his utility as a thief is nice, so he should get some use. Sadly, I don't think thieves can class change in this game, in which case I'm not going to use one outside of utility.

Dieck, Roy, Lance, Lot, Marcus, Ellen, and Chad go east, aiming to enter the building, or in Marcus' case, to visit the home. The others go north to visit the other home, and take out the northern soldiers as well. However, after Roy fights a soldier, we see Lugh in the northern village talking to a priest, and mentioning Chad, meaning the little thief's gonna need to make a detour to recruit him. The main group of Roy, Dieck, Lot, and Lance begin taking out the incoming enemies, while the others hightail it to the houses.

Come next enemy phase, Zephiel speaks with Narshen about the fight, and then Idoun suggests dragons, before Narshen turns down the idea. Zephiel then leaves him in command of the area before leaving, and Narshen leaves as well, trusting the castle containing an incredibly important military prisoner to some mook named Slater so that he can collect a "gift" from a Lycian lord. The conversation carries on (making Narshen creepier by the second), before he leaves for real.

The northern group draws closer to the home, while Marcus receives a mend staff from his target, before heading back to cover the main group. Said main group slowly push their way through the enemies forces, advancing through the castle bit by bit as they take out foes, Lot leading the way with his axes. Chad meanwhile visits the house Lugh is in and recruits him after a fairly cool conversation.

Lugh himself is decent, given he comes at level 1. His magic is low, but his speed and skill are passable, and his defense and res will let him take a hit. I might make use of him, assuming I can get him over to the others soon. The main group is now fighting off the cavaliers who came to reinforce the enemies, with Lance taking the front and letting the others finish them off. Ellen keeps the group healthy, and they wait for their foes to come to them. Lugh is helped to the group by Thany and snags a kill off a wounded foe, and Chad is also rushing to them so he can get the treasure. Once they're done with the cavaliers, Dieck lures out an armor knight and Lugh finishes him. They move forward more, taking down foes as they head towards the treasure, and feed Lugh more kills.

Lance and Roy reach C support, with a simple conversation about Roy needing to watch out for himself, and Lance being a protective guardian. Lugh takes down the treasures guard, and Chad goes to nab the goodies (a halberd and 3000 gold) while the others head towards the boss. Roy takes out his last guard, and Lugh takes on Slater, using his magic to pierce the knights armor. Ellen heals him whenever he's hit, but he dodges most of the attacks, and slowly but surely takes down Slater. After Slater is taken down, Dieck and Lot are revealed to be able to support, and they talk about how they feel about Roy before the aforementioned seizes the throne.

After the battle, Merlinus finds Hector and Roy meets with him, only to learn Hector won't last much longer. He reveals that Bern has revived the dragons of old, which he, Eliwood and Lyn had tried so hard to stop 20 years prior. After telling Roy to lead the Lycian Alliance Army, and making a final wish to see Lilina again, Hector dies.

This isn't a good situation at all.

You don't actually have to recruit Lugh with Chad, although you can see their conversation if they meet up later.

Chad has pretty awesome growth rates IIRC and can be a great fighter for a while, but yeah, no promotion.

Theory is that Lugh and his brother you'll meet later are Nino's kids and the priest taking care of the orphanage may have been Lucius.

I don't think Lugh and his brother being Nino's sons is a theory, though Lucius being the priest definitely is. Her paired endings say that she gives birth to twins and well, it's hard to deny a family resemblance.

I'd heard about the twins, and damn if they don't look like Nino. They're even about the same age as she is when she joins, so it just goes even further. Sadly, even with good growths, Chad suffers from the same problem as Por!Sothe. No promotion making those great growths essentially useless after a certain point.

I've noticed that they are basically throwing characters at me. I've already got a party of about 13 or so people, and I've just reached chapter 4.

Yeah, that's going to continue basically the entire game.

2 in chapter 4.

None in chapter 5, surprisingly.

3 in chapter 6 and the first part of a multi-chapter recruitment.

3 in chapter 7.

4 in chapter 8 and the second part of that recruitment, out of three.

Gaiden.

2 in chapter 9.

And then route split number one. Speaking of that, good luck getting everything on 11A/10B.

A route split after chapter 9? Wait, number one means that there is another later on? Damn. Well alright then, this is going to get interesting.
