Interlude -- The Journey Home

With Darin defeated, the rest of the Black Fang in the courtyard were unimportant. After a moment of reflection over the power-crazed marquess's remains, Eliwood ignores the remaining foe, walking to the place his father is imprisoned.

We find Lord Elbert and Ninian inside a vast, darkened chamber. As we turn to leave, a hard-eyed figure emerges from the shadows to block our escape. Legault, beside me, stiffens in shock. "...The Angel of Death!"

Lord Elbert has a similar evaluation, warning us under no circumstances to fight this man. The moment of hesitation is enough. Ephidel appears with his mysterious master Nergal, as Lord Elbert cries out in pain. Something is being drained from him...

The stone quakes and rumbles. Power glows from the Dragon's Gate, as Ninian eerily calls out to the beings that gave this place its name. Creatures of legend, not seen since the days of the Scouring.

Events move rapidly after that: Nils appearing to bring Ninian to her senses, the half-formed dragon exploding, Ephidel perishing in flame, Lord Elbert dealing a fatal blow to Nergal...Lord Elbert dying in his son's arms.

The journey home will be a solemn one.

We meet Fargus on the shores of the Dread Isle, wind at our backs, a smaller group than before.

  • Dart, Canas — Neither did as much sightseeing as they would have liked. Canas will remain to study some fascinating old ruins...Dart doesn't care where he goes, so he'll be sticking with Canas for mutual protection from any Black Fang survivors who might hold a grudge.

  • Fiora, Florina — Recovered from the ambush that claimed the rest of her unit, Fiora leaves by air to report to her employer, Lord Pent of Etruria. Florina begs leave to travel with her sister, which Lyn happily gives. Her training with the Caelin cavaliers may have cured her shyness, but she obviously needs instruction from a real pegasus knight.

I look forward to sleeping in a real inn again back in Badon port. Lord Elbert's death is sad, but we've stopped Darin's conquest of Lycia and that madman Nergal's plan to bring back dragons. There shouldn't be any more fighting, right?

I feel like mentioning here that I am probably going to have several turncount violations for using Legault to do stuff over the rest of this playthrough. If I do so and forget, call me on it!

I like how you had some of the party members leave the group. That should also keep you from coming up with excuses to not use characters :P
