Well, the sidequests we can do right now are done, so let's head for Mysidia.

Elder: We knew you would return. Please join us at the Tower of Prayer.

Well, the plot sure found us quickly. For full effect, listen to the Prelude. First, we get given a quick recap of the Mysidian Legend.

One born of a dragon, bearing darkness and light, shall rise to the heavens over the still land.

The moons light eternal brings a promise to the planet, with bounty and grace.

Elder: Everyone, let us pray. Now is the time to make the legend come true!

Lots of praying. Then, a light shines!

The waters near Mysidia form a whirlpool.

Elder: Look! Our prayers... Our prayers have been answered!

Out of the whirlpool rises an airship. An airship with its own theme music.

Elder: There is no doubt. That is the glorious ship... The Lunar Whale! A strange voice addressed me during our prayers. You are to fly to the moon. Someone awaits you there.

Cecil: But how can we possibly get there?

Elder: The Lunar Whale is a ship which came from that moon. According to our records, there is a Crystal inside it which can control its flight. You must find a way to communicate with it, Cecil, and make your way to the moon!

Cecil: I will see what I can do.

The Lunar Whale nicely parked itself right next to Mysidia for us. We get in. The Lunar Whale contains a free inn and Fat Chocobo. It can't go into the Underworld, but it can take us to the Red Moon! Let's just try to talk to that Crystal in the middle and go.

The moon is certainly very moon like. Looks kinda boring. Let's go back to the planet. We switch to the Enterprise and head for Kokkol's Forge.

Kokkol: It's ready! The holy sword Excalibur! Use it well.

He gives us the Excalibur, which makes the Defender look like crap, with about one and a half times the Attack, a Strength buff, and Holy elemental. And it's still not Cecil's best sword.

Anyway, back to the Red Moon. Our first stop is a small cave in the south, the Hummingway Abode. It's got the only place you can buy MP restoring stuff before postgame content, as well as Gyshal Whistles that let us summon the Fat Chocobo anywhere. In the DS version, you can also buy Sirens.

Our main target for today is a series of caves leading to a large palace in the middle, the Lunar Tunnels. There's not much in the two caves except hard encounters. Good thing I got the Excalibur.

We finally reach the Crystal Palace in the middle of the moon.

???: Welcome!

An old man teleports into the middle of the palace.

Cecil: You are...?

Elder: I am Fusoya. My duty is to protect the slumber of the Lunarians.

I smell plot dump.

Cecil: The Lunarians?

Fusoya: Many, many years ago, there was a small planet between the Red Planet and the Great Behemoth. It was on the verge of destruction and the species of the planet escaped on ship to the Blue Planet.

In case anyone doesn't get it, FFIV takes place in the Solar System. The Red Planet is Mars, the Great Behemoth is Jupiter, the Lunarian's home planet became the Asteroid Belt, and the Blue Planet is Earth. Or Final Fantasy's depiction of Earth anyway.

Fusoya: However, the species was still evolving, so they created a moon where they could sleep... ...A long, long slumber.

Edge: And they are these Lunarians...?

Fusoya: Yes. However, there was one who refused to sleep. Instead, he wished to raze every living thing on the Blue Planet and create a new home there.

Rydia: How awful...

Fusoya: I was able to seal him away with my powers and force him to sleep. However, during his deep sleep, he channelled his evil to the corrupt ones on your planet. And now he uses them to gather the Crystals.

Cecil: Then he must be the one between Golbez's actions!

Edge: But who is he!?

Fusoya: His name is Zemus. He is gathering the Crystals, our energy source, to run the interdimensional elevator. It is located in the Giant of Babil, and with it, he'll destroy everything on your planet.

Rosa: No!

Fusoya: However, many Lunarians feel we can come to an understanding with your people. We are merely sleeping and waiting for humans to reach our level of evolution.

Cecil: what about the Lunar Whale?

Fusoya: That was built by my younger brother, Kluya, many years ago. He was always enamored with your planet. He used the Lunar Whale to travel to the Blue Planet. He is the one who created the Devil's Road and introduced airship technology to your people. And on the Blue Planet, Kluya fell in love and had children.

Here comes The Reveal...

Fusoya: You... are one of his children.

Cecil: I am...!? ...Then the voice I heard on Mount Ordeals was...

Fusoya: The voice came from the soul of Kluya, your father. I see it now... You resemble him when he was your age.

Cecil: That was the voice... of my father...!

He did call you "son".

Fusoya: You have received power from Kluya to stop Zemus and his evil plan. You must do this for your planet! for all Lunarians! You must hurry to the Tower of Babil in Eblan.

NO. I am not going through that place again.

Edge: The Tower of Babil? How will we get around its barrier?

Fysoya: I should be able to enter. We cannot let the Giant of Babil reach the Blue Planet. I will join you on your journey.

Lunarian Fusoya has joined the party.

Well, like the game says, Fusoya is a Lunarian, essentially a better version of Tellah. His stats do not go up except for HP, IIRC. He has every spell, but only 190 MP to work with, as well as Bless, which restores a small amount of HP every few seconds. He's OK as a playable character, but not as good as most. He starts at level 50, but it really doesn't matter.

Well, that's all for now. Next time, we do a small sidequest before we head back to Earth.

Stats:

        Rydia: Lv 41: HP:1126 MP:344 Strength:22 Speed:21 Stamina:20 Intellect:54 Spirit:42 Attack:55 (4 attacks) Defence:35 Magic Defence:27

        Rosa: Lv 43 HP:1817 MP:361 Strength:45 Speed:22 Stamina:26 Intellect:31 Spirit:56 Attack:91 (7 attacks) Defence:38 Magic Defence:27

Edge: Lv 41 HP:1764 MP:124 Strength:49 Speed:37 Stamina:36 Intellect:20 Spirit:17 Attack:132 (9 attacks) Defence:39 Magic Defence:12

        Fusoya: Lv 50 HP:1900 MP:190 Strength:10 Speed:20 Stamina:10 Intellect:45 Spirit:60 Attack:50 (3 attacks) Defence:28 Magic Defence:24

Erm, sorry anyone who saw the original version of this update, I hadn't fixed up all the formatting yet.

Gasp, I think I missed the Excalibur on my latest DS playthrough... and the Moon dungeons are indeed murder enough to make me give up. Time to check whether I've got a pre-Fusoya save...

More like a serial killer if you ask me!

The DS version is made of murder. Hell, I started having trouble with that game in the Underground Waterway. Bloody Tiny Mages. And then I was doing OK until Scarmiglione came along and screwed with the way how he's supposed to go down and GAH.

While I like some things the DS version did, the difficulty spike is not one of them.
