Chapter 1: Unlocking the Future

    • Indigo Plateau

"Ah, Master Oak. I'm glad you could make it so quickly."

Oak: "Drop it, Lance. I was deposed ages ago, and my team is gone. But I'm happy with my life as a researcher. I came because I knew this had to be important, but I do have two very pressing engagements back home. Could you explain what has happened?"

Lance: "Of course. (Ahem) Pokemon League Headquarters has been closed to the public since your defeat by order of the incumbent champion. Unfortunately, He has fallen victim to a... terrible mental illness."

Oak: "An illness? What could-"

Lance: "We're still not sure of the cause. But as time went on, the symptoms were clear: He could no longer form memories. And it grew worse. It was horrible to watch him fall, but... he's degenerated into a vegetable, with no chance of recovery."

Oak: "Good heavens..."

Lance: "We have no choice but to open the doors for a suitable replacement to step forward. And, you are the only other person with the authority to register them into the computer system."

Oak: "...I see. Call me again when you need me for that duty. But now I need to get back to my grandson Purple and his friend- what was it, Yell-"

Lance: "Ah, 'Professor'... I think you deserve to know. We were also hoping that the sudden surge of challengers will bring the missing Earth Leader back into the open."

Oak: "I'm curious too, but I doubt that will happen. You already have Eight other Gym Leaders."

{Oak leaves}

Lance: "Not for long."

  • End report

{Our story really begins in Pallet town. It's a small village, but it's also home to the world famous Oak Pokemon Laboratory. Most of the town's population is made up of the Oak Family and their assistants.}

{The professor has two grandchildren: the older sister Daisy, and the younger brother, who is named Purple in this world. The two of them often played together with their neighbor Yellow. But recently, Purple began noticing hints that his grandfather would be giving him a Pokemon, and became obsessed with the idea. In his obsession and arrogance, he began becoming a Bully. The Professor noticed, and began having second thoughts...}

  • Yellow's house

Yellow: "Who would have thought that you really could beat the final boss in one attack... Looks like I won't be playing this game again for a while. Hey mom, I'm going outside!"

Mom: "Right. All boys leave home someday. It said so on TV."

Yellow: "Um?"

Mom: "Professor Oak, next door, is looking for you."

Yellow: "Wait, What? I'd better go!"

  • Next door, at Purple's house

Daisy: "Hi Yellow! Purple is out at Grandpa's lab."

Yellow: "Is the Prof. there too?"

Daisy: "Usually, but I don't know right now..."

  • Oak Pokemon Research Lab

{The Aide's are busy with their own notes}

Purple: "Yo Yellow! Gramps isn't around!"

Yellow: "Not here either? Where could he be?"

Purple: "I ran here 'cos he said he had a Pokemon for me."

Yellow: (I guess that's what the pokeball on the table is for... but maybe there's some note he left for us... maybe the computer desk? Ah! There's an e-mail message here!)

Calling all Pokemon trainers! The elite trainers of Pokemon League are ready to take on all comers! Bring your best Pokemon and see how you rate as a trainer!

Pokemon League HQ Indigo Plateau

PS: Professor Oak, please visit us!

Yellow: (Did the Prof. go out of town? The only way is north...)

  • Outside

This could work. There's enough room to move around, and no rivals because they don't come too close to the town. All I need to worry about is- Ah, speak of them and they come!

Yellow: No doubt about it. The Prof. isn't anywhere in town. I have to leave if I want to catch up with him.

{Shuffle, shuffle}

He came in... and he has no proxy! He's defenseless- at my mercy!

"Hey wait! Don't go out!"

Another one? Fine. You'll be my opponent!

Oak: "That was close!"

Yellow: "Professor! Where did you-"

Oak: "Wild Pokemon live in tall grass!"

Now! Thunder force... ChaAA!

===Battle Start!===

Oak: "Look out! A wild Pikachu!? Stay back, Yellow!" (I've only got one shot. If it doesn't work-) "Haa!"

Pikachu: No opposition except- No!

{Oak threw a Poke Ball! Pikachu was sucked inside!}

Pikachu: Careless! I need to force my way out before the seal finalizes-

{*Click!* All right! Pikachu was caught!}

Pikachu: Nooooo...

===Battle End===

Oak: "Whew..."

Yellow: "Professor... Are you alright?"

Oak: "Just fine, fortunately. A Pokemon can appear at any time in tall grass. But they'll seldom attack a human directly if you have something to fight in your place. You need your own Pokemon for your protection. I know! Here, come with me!"

{Oak walks Yellow back to the laboratory}

Yellow: "I thought you'd left town."

Oak: "I did. But I caught a lift back by air- never mind. Here we are."

Purple: "Gramps! I'm fed up with waiting!"

Oak: "Hmm? Purple? Why are you here already? I said for you to come by later... Ah, whatever! Just wait there."

Oak: "Look, Yellow! Do you see that ball on the table?"

Yellow: "Yeah."

Oak: "It's called a Poke Ball. It holds a Pokemon inside. You may have it! Go on, take it!"

Purple: "Hey! Gramps! What about me?"

Oak: "Be patient, Purple, I'll give you one later."

{Purple turns away.}

Purple: "Humph! I'll get a better Pokemon than you!"

{Yellow walks up to the table and reaches for the ball. But suddenly, Purple rushes him and shoves him against the wall to snatch the ball!}

Purple: "No way! Yellow, I want this Pokemon!"

Oak: "Purple! What are you doing?"

Purple: "Gramps, I want this one!"

Oak: "But, I... Oh, all right then. That Pokemon was registered as yours when you grabbed the ball. I was going to give you one anyway... Yellow, come over here."

{Yellow does so.}

Oak: "Yellow, this is the Pokemon I caught earlier. Just let me make a few data modifications to delete my OT registration and... You can have it. I caught it in the wild and it's not tame yet."

Yellow: "Alright!"

Oak: "Do you want to give it a nickname?"

Yellow: "Uh, I don't think I could come up with a good one right this second. I don't even know if Pikachu is a boy or a girl..."

Oak: "A reasonable way to look at it. Unfortunately, it will be a while before you can go back on this decision. You'll have to get help from the Name Rater."

Yellow: "What? Aww..."

Purple: "Heh, my Pokemon looks a lot stronger"

Oak: "If wild Pokemon appear, your Pokemon can fight against them. After all that, you both should go to the next town."

Yellow: "Alright then. I'll see you both-"

Purple: "Wait Yellow! Let's check out our Pokemon! Come on, I'll take you on!"

===Battle Start! Vs. Purple!===

Purple: Go, Eevee!

Yellow: Go Pikachu!

Pikachu: Finally out! ...So these are what Trainers are like... I might have gotten the better bargain.

Eevee: I finally get to see wild strength. Don't disappoint me!

Yellow: Ok, your attack is... Thundershock. Use it!

Pikachu: Understood!

{Round 1: Pikachu uses Thundershock. Critical hit! Eevee uses Tackle. HP count 12/18 to 60%}

Yellow: Keep it up!

Eevee: Oh, can you really fight someone as cute as me?

Pikachu: No problem.

{Round 2: Pikachu uses Thundershock. Eevee uses Tail Whip, but it fails. HP count 12/18 to 40%}

Yellow: Keep it up!

{Round 3: Pikachu uses Thundershock. Critical hit! HP count 12/18 to 0%}

Eevee: ''But I-I-"

Pikachu: It's done.

{Eevee fainted, and was autorecalled to it's Pokeball.}

Pikachu: Wait... a flash of inspiration! Maybe that tail wagging tech could be useful after all.

{Pikachu leveled up, and learned Tail Whip.}}

Purple: "WHAT? Unbelievable! I picked the wrong Pokemon!"

Yellow: (We were lucky this time.)

===Battle End===

Purple: "Okay! I'll make my Pokemon fight to toughen it up! Yellow! Gramps! Smell ya later!"

{Purple leaves. On an unrelated note, as soon as he's out the door.}

"Pikah."

Oak: "What?"

{Pikachu has managed to unlock it's Pokeball from inside, and sits at Yellow's heels.}

Oak: Would you look at that! It's odd, but it appears that your Pikachu dislikes Poke Balls.

Yellow: I guess so. But what should I do about that?

Oak: You should just keep it with you. That should make it happy!

Pikachu: Happy? I wouldn't go that far. But... If they'll accept this arrangement, I won't push further for now.

Yellow: I guess that's okay. As long as Pikachu doesn't start shocking me for no reason.

Oak: You can always turn around and talk to it to see how it feels about you.

Yellow: Hmmm... How do you feel about me, Pikachu?

Pikachu: Pii-kah. {Eyes closed.} I'm not impressed. Yet.
