Interlude: The 12 Zodiac Stones

With the tablet in hand, we need to go get the stones of the Zodiac. They are all in stages we've already visited. This is another Guide Dang It! moment... See, you are not given ANY clue where you are supposed to find the stones. Do they really expect us to revisit every town of every map? Are they mad? Oh, it gets better, remember the little girl Posha is Diaspola? You can only get the last stone if you helped her!

Anyway, I will not transcribe the dialogue for each stone, as most of them are more or less exactly this:

Oh Destin! You have the Tablet of Yaru! Let me give you this stone of the Zodiac, the (Stone Name)!

Occasionally it's worded a bit differently, but it's never more interesting.

  • Anyway, as Irony would have it, the first stone, Sapphire, is in Shangrila, in the only temple there.
"The ninth stone of the Zodiac. Signifies victory."

  • There's the Garnet in the Temple NW of the base in the Slums of Zenobia.
"The first stone of the Zodiac. Signifies rulership."

  • The Opal is in Lake Jannenia, in the only temple there.
    • I've just noticed how the world map calls this place Lake Jannenia, as does most of the dialogue, but the loading screen says "Lake Jansenia". Yay for shitty translations!
"The tenth stone of the Zodiac. Signifies compassion."

  • The Amethyst is in the only temple of the Dalmhud Desert.
"The second stone of the Zodiac. Signifies reverence."

  • In Shiguld we find the Diamond in the hidden temple.
"The fourth stone of the Zodiac. Signifies wisdom."

  • The Emerald is in Island Avalon, in the hidden temple were we found Aisha.
"The fifth stone of the Zodiac. Signifies leadership."

  • The Ruby is in Malano, in the hidden town of Sanbelna.
"The seventh stone of the Zodiac. Signifies honor."

  • In Muspelm, in a hidden temple, we find the Peridot.
"The eighth stone of the Zodiac. Signifies knowledge."

  • In the Ryhan sea we will find the Topaz in the temple south of the base.
"The eleventh stone of the Zodiac. Signifies prosperity."

  • The Turquoise is in the Tundra, in the temple east of the boss' castle.
"The twelfth stone of the Zodiac. Signifies royalty."

The last two stones are in Diaspola, but first we must go to Organa. In the SE temple, we meet the same dude who gave us the other stones.

Oh, you have the tablet of Yaru! Let me give you something. Please take this stone of the Zodiac, the pearl! Uh... Where did it go? Well... How embarrassing, please take this Ginger Cake instead... Sorry!

Ah yes, Cake is totally a replacement for a Zodiac stone! I can't wait to tell Rashidi! "Fear me, for I have 11 of the 12 Zodiac stones...And a cake."

  • Anyway, in Diaspola, we first need to visit the hidden town of Ajan. There is the Aquamarine.
"The third stone of the Zodiac. Signifies peace."

  • Next we go to Somyul, might as well visit the little girl and give her the cake.
Oh A ginger cake! <3 <3 I love those! Can I have some! Oh! Thank you! munch-munch-munch Ouch! What's this! There's a pretty rock in here! What is it? Well, I don't need it. Here! You take it.
This gives us the Pearl.
"The sixth stone of the Zodiac. Signifies glory."
And that is all 12!

Next time: Oh Mother, where art thou?

So, after searching the world for twelve stones of seemingly important value, the final one was...baked into a cake. I don't know whether to critizise the temple's cooking skills, or to make an overused Portal reference.

It's the kind of moon logic Japanese games of the SNES era ran upon really. "Of course the monk would have accidently put the stone of immeasurable value in the cake!"

It's kind of like if the guys at the tower of London accidently put the royal jewels in the recycling bin.
