Part 1: Two Sicilies in 1836

We start the game all shiny and stuff on January 1, 1836. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies sits on the southern end of the Italian Peninsula, with our only direct neighbors the Papal States to our northeast. We have a large population, especially in our region of Napoli. We are a Monarchy under the rule of Ferdinand II of the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, and the ruling faction at court is the Ristorazionista. We are currently regarded as twenty-first among nations; we lack renown in cultural and political power (0 prestige), a newborn industrial base (21 industry), and a small armed force (7 military). In order to provide funds for the kingdom, the king has ordered a raising of taxes for all strata, and the reduction of the naval and police spending.

Our chief production is in fish, fruit, and sulfur, with the last being an important good, as it is used to produce fertilizers. Research on developing practical steam engines is also commenced, and with regards to foreign policy, a group of Ristorazionistas have advised the king to declare war on the Duchy of Modena, as first in a step of wars to unite the Italian states under the banner of the house of Bourbon. The kingdom stands alone against a coalition of the Papal States, Parma, and Modena. The war shall follow in the next update.
