Well, that was a lengthy old thing, but it's not over yet!
Right after that Social Link beginning thing, we immediately cut to the Dark Hour, and it seems Ghost Boy is back and sitting on my bed. I need an adult! Being sleepy, we ask how he got in here, to which he replies "I'm always with you..." Send help. Please. And then he goes right off the creepy scale with "Soon, the end will come." Asking for elaboration on that only results in more ominous dialogue, so that's no use. Helps that the ghost-boy doesn't know what it is either. Great job there, poltergeist. Great job. Ghosty also comments on how unusual our "awakened power" is. Seriously, this guy might as well be the poster boy for Creepy Child
. He also expects us to "honour your commitment", whatever that means. Why can't I have good dreams any more? Or even semi-weird dreams, where people turn into flamingos while Red Rain plays in the background? Le sigh...
Thankfully ghosty disappears from sight, leaving us confused and more than a little frightened. Note to self, call the Ghostbusters first thing tomorrow morning. After that fun stuff, we cut to Sunday evening, since apparently our morning was spent clarifying with the operator that the Ghostbusters did exist, and we needed their number ASAP. But hey, seems like someone wants us downstairs, so let's go see what they want. Turns out Yukari needs us for some reason, likely to do with Akihiko. Akihiko reveals that he has someone he wants us to meet, only for the doors to open and reveal... Junpei! And a ton of stuff in a giant suitcase! Turns out Junpei's gonna be moving in here as well. Neat!
Unfortunately, Akihiko spoils any fun we might have from putting spy cameras in his room and all that by revealing that he just explained everything to him. Why couldn't we have Akihiko do that for us, huh? Jerk. Yukari is a little disbelieving of this, but Junpei reveals that he does in fact have the potential, since he was found crying in a convenience store, surrounded by coffins. Ouch. Akihiko tried to bolster poor Junpei's ego by saying that it was completely normal. Akihiko tries, bless him. We're given the option to smash his spirits, but let's be nice to the guy and play along by saying that it happened to us as well. That seems to be the right option, so smiles all around! Except for Yukari, who still isn't happy about Junpei joining.
It's just now that I'm able to place Akihiko's voice actor - he played Grimoire Weiss in Nier, among many other things. Akihiko wants us to go along and explore "that place", which Yukari reveals to be... Tartarus. Not exactly filling me with hope here, guys. Junpei's ignorance of Greek Mythology shines through, but Akihiko ignores it, saying he thinks we can find the reason for the Dark Hour in there. I smell dungeon-crawling! Anyway, we're told we'll be given the details tomorrow night by Ikutsuki, and it immediately fades to the next day and us walking to school. Seems people get drowsy on Monday mornings, which I'm sure will be important later.
Mitsuru, however, bursts through this bubble of speculation, telling us to head to the lounge when we get back to the dorm. Curiouser and curiouser... And just like that, she's gone. We also find that Yukari's a little cold towards Mitsuru for reasons that will no doubt be explained later. We cut from walking home from school to the lounge. Ikutsuki wastes no time in getting down to business, saying he wants to begin the exploration of Tartarus. Finally, we'll be getting into the main dungeon of the game! Akihiko explains that Tartarus is something of a Shadow nest, and a great place to train. Tartarus also only appears during the Dark Hour. Hmm. The plot thickens! Unfortunately, Akihiko's not able to go into the nest due to his injury, which bums out both me and him. Next time, Blood Knight
. Next time. Ikutsuki also explains that, sadly, he can't summon Personas, so he'll be staying behind.
We find ourselves at what appears to be the school gate a few minutes before the Dark Hour. Funny place to put a giant pit of demonic evil, I gotta say. But then we get booted into anime cutscene, and suddenly the whole building starts expanding and warping into a building that would haunt M C Escher's nightmares. Turns out nobody is quite sure why Tartarus is the way it is, so I guess it's up to us to find out! We find ourselves in the main lobby, which seems to have a thing for clocks, especially elaborate, clockwork machines with roman numerals. Makes sense, considering it only happens at midnight, but still... Mitsuru and Akihiko explain that Junpei, Yukari and I are going in by ourselves. Thanks for the moral support, guys. We;re also told that a leader will be assigned to our group. In this case, it's, you guessed it, us.
However, before we can get into the dungeon proper, Igor's Main Character Magnet Door (TM) yanks us towards it, forcing us to use the Velvet Key on it and pulling us into Igor's dimension of nose. Pray for me.
