Let's Play Kingdom Hearts: 9 Years Too Late
This game's pacing sucks
The kingdom Hearts fangirl in me is saying very snarky stuff at you.
angelistoftenshi
Wakka is from Final Fantasy X, brudda. o3o
Hobgoblin
The unskippable cutscenes are a huge pain >_> Thankfully this is the only installment where it's a problem.

It's a shame you don't like it, but if it just doesn't appeal to you I guess there isn't really anything to be done. (I personally thought the opening with the Latin chanting and the stained glass was gorgeous.) I hope it grows on you, but if not, well, you're stuck playing a game you hate I guess.
suspiciouscookie
I don't hate it my initial impressions are just a little mean because, let's face it, I just had to go through the same tutorial and cutscene three times on three separate occasions making varied bits of progress of the game and my friend's memory cards were destroyed multiple times. I hate having to repeat myself.

I like action RP Gs in general, I'm just nitpicking because it's popular. SO far it's just "Meh". Think of it like a Zero Punctuation review: almost everything is nitpiicky and overblown and not as bad as I make it seem.

And hobgoblin thou art have demonstrated more of my ignorance. Is this menat to be a reason for me to play the FF games?
MousaThe14
I have not played this, and from all the hype, i don't think i really will. Besides the fact i can't afford a system, much less an actual game
RobbieRotten
everyone but me in my posse is talking about Nobodies, Axel, Roxas, and whatever. I want to be involved.

Believe me; no, you don't. (And the Nobodies, Axel, and Roxas aren't even in the first KH game!)
ManwiththePlan
Maybe you should take a step back and think about what age group this game is targeted towards - note the dolled-up versions of the Final Fantasy characters, the lack of blood, any real violence or swearing at all, and the adorable enemies. Admittedly, the game isn't for everyone, though :/
Svilgarde
taking a step back and thinking about the age group this is targeted towards I realized... This game sucked at doing that, they made the beginning of the game as dull as humanly possible when kids aren't going to have the attention span for that sort of thing. Thanks for the advice.
MousaThe14
I hate Riku
The answers from those questions don't determine difficulty, they determine the levelling curve. Getting night means the earlier levels need more experience, but overall less is required to reach higher levels. It is still completely stupid.
SomeColorMage
XD You crack me up.
angelistoftenshi
My friend said it's not normally not hard but becuase my decision made the "Hard game" It's difficult to win against him now.

Your friend is wrong.
PataHikari
Woop, FFXIII/FFX mixup.

That'd be Riku with one k...
suspiciouscookie
Looks like I mixed up FFXIII and FFVIII in telling you about your mixup. All power to me.
218.185.9.242
OK, they have some similarities, but seriously comparing Riku to Sasuke is an insult. -_-
ManwiththePlan
Until I play the game through in it's entirety, Riku will always be another Draco Inleather Pants induced Sasuke clone to me.
MousaThe14
...Wow, you're a bit of an idiot. Have you played an RPG...ever?

I mean, you complained about things not making sense IN A DREAM. You then proceed to make the game as difficult for yourself as physically possible, perfectly aware of this fact, then complain about things being too hard.

Not to mention you seem to believe you're an expert on FF games based off of Spoony's reviews. Reviews that Spoony's admitted, are really for entertainment value only.

Finally, PLEASE do at least five minutes of casual research before you write a liveblog. Riku's name is written on the freaking game box, there's no excuse.

209.226.36.10
I never said I was an expert, I said I didn't know anything about the games and had no opinion on them. Even I know his reviews are utter entertainment. I'm not stupid like most people I know all those guys on TGWTG.com are entirely for entertainment value. You shouldn't misconstrue people like that. Sounds like someone's just angry.

Do you need a hug?
MousaThe14
Mundane Things and Being Raped by Children
You and your threesome logic.

Also, Riku had a win-lose ratio of 3:56 when I first played Kingdom Hearts. *cries*
Hobgoblin
Riku had a win-loss ratio of 2:10 when I played -_-

A block function is available later in the game. You don't want it to be too easy, do you?
CyganAngel
Get used to that Two Guys And A Girl dynamic, you'll be seeing it a lot throughout the series.
BetaRay
Also, I've never had trouble beating Riku, what's with you guys?
BetaRay
A block function is available later in the game. You don't want it to be too easy, do you?
Don't you dare use Signed logic on me, his perception of difficulty is wrong and you should know it. Having a block function has nothing to do with difficulty, especially for broken beginning game dynamics. Heck, it should be basic along with attacking and game wise it doesn't make sense. You have a sword you can swing but you can't hold it up in front of you? Is Sora stupid or something?
MousaThe14
BEAT RIKU! BEAT HIM NOOOOOWWW!!! D:<
.. Sorry. But yeah, you should be warned... KH has a bit of a thing for trios. Hopefully, you'll endure...
angelistoftenshi
It's a wooden sword. It would probably break if you tried to use it for blocking (and Sora's reflexes aren't all that great anyway).

There's nothing in the beginning of the game that requires blocking. At all. Seriously. It would be a gameplay element that basically removes any semblance of difficulty from this first section.

CyganAngel
"Is Sora stupid or something?" You have no idea.
BetaRay
I'm not fond of Spoony either, but why hate him after the FFX review if you haven't even played the game yourself?
ManwiththePlan
I don't see what not playing Final Fantasy Ten has to do with me disliking the Spoony One. It implies I dislike him due to the fact he insulted something I have fond memories of. I do not. I dislike him for many reasons.

And if it's a dislike for Tidus or Wakka, keep in mind I don't explicitly state I hate Wakka and Tidus. technically I'm entirely neutral on them, I'm just making jokes at their expense.

MousaThe14
Well, the triangle IS the strongest structure in nature. :D
twilightgamer92

twilightgamer92
NO! NO! NO! YES! YES! YES! NO! NO! NO!
Oh haha, poor you. Don't worry! You'll see more of Donald and Goofy!
Also, you might or might not get an answer to your parents question...
angelistoftenshi
It should be noted that the island they are playing on is a little islet off the coast of the main Destiny Islands area. This is just a little area they go to hang out during the day.
Hobgoblin
Actually, Riku's descent is played a bit diff-

...

well, OK, the initial Bad Stuff happens for the reason you said, but things take a different turn later.
Enlong
Kingdom Hearts is known for its Kudzu Plot for a reason, but things are quite simple in the first game. (Well, kinda.) Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate.
218.185.9.242
Oh, I'm also calling that Kairi will be a flat as a board useless love interest

If saving Sora from a lifetime in darkness is your idea of useless, then.....
ManwiththePlan
Keep in mind I haven't played the game before so I don't know, I'm making guesses based on the pattern of her character type from other Japanese media.
MousaThe14
If you think Riku's a tranny now, wait until 358. And I never noticed Riku had Disney Princess syndrome. Funny for how when women have that they get what they want but when men have it they screw everything up.
twilightgamer92
Oh, I'm also calling that Kairi will be a flat as a board useless love interest.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh wait, you're serious. Let me laugh even harder.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
takashi.0
The "flat as a board" thing becomes laughable as well when KH2 comes around (and yes, I'm aware he was probably speaking in terms of her character, but I'm speaking in terms of....what it sounds like.)
ManwiththePlan
Oh quiet Takashi, how would I know, I've never played this before or even looked into it, I'm basing all this entirely on history.

Also... Man with the Plan, just how much "not flat as a board" are we talking about here? Simple curiosity, of course....

MousaThe14
Important things happen: No one cares.
You need to get the yellow coconuts. Not the brown ones.
Fish you find in the beach. One of them is close to those three boats you first see.
angelistoftenshi
I'm really liking this

Vanitas
What angel said. Only certain trees yield the right coconuts. How many of the other materials do you still need to find?
X2X
I already figured this all out while you guys were typing responses.
MousaThe14
You really should have turned your brightness up; the ominous voice was coming from a guy in a brown hooded cloak standing there.
ManwiththePlan
Aw, they would ridden Kairi, then... Wait... :P In all seriousness, that is so Sora. Emotional and sweet. :)
173.216.142.50
Why I Find Japanese Protagonists to be Bland
If it makes you feel better, there's this character in KHII:FM that has a habit of turning his Keyblade into everything.
Except you're the one fighting against him. Which means you get your butt kicked.
Plus, it's only in japan D:

Sora also has a dad, don't cha know?
angelistoftenshi
You're gonna get pleasantly suprised on one of the things you mentioned. Things aren't always as they seem.
Vanitas
You can also do a bit of this in Birth by Sleep. Terra has a command that turns his Keyblade into a BFG and has him blast the [expletive deleted] out of everything. Sadly, that's about it (the Keyblades can also turn into Gummi Ship-like transports, but they're not used as weapons).

Funny thing is, about that mother of Sora that you mention. Never appears again in the series, never is mentioned again in the series. Ah, Japan...
X2X
Personally I find beating the crap out of people with a giant key awesome and unique.
Vanitas
Racist!
ManwiththePlan
Okay... I give up, how am I racist?
MousaThe14
You're racist toward Japanse protagonists, of course!
ManwiththePlan
But that doesn't make sense, Link is my favorite character from my favorite game serious of all time and Yoh is pretty awesome.
MousaThe14
Shot In The Dark.
I couldn't help, but smile when i read this. Keep on keeping on.
Vanitas
It's because you forgot to feed it in the morning.
Darkside likes to hold grudges.
angelistoftenshi
Glad you took my suggestion, Mousa. :P
X2X
I always figured that Keyblades hurt the Heartless because they're magically enhanced weapons- like Squall's Gunblade.

Regardless, man... I am laughing so hard right now. You are... going to be so surprised later.
CyganAngel
My theory? The Heartless are just immune to wood. Everything else seems to work fine against them.
SomeColorMage
Is it becuase I always used black humor on you?

Yes, that was it.
ManwiththePlan
I think he's angry because you slept on him every night of your life and he had to smell your funk for the past 14 years.
twilightgamer92
Keyblades hurt heartless because They're fucking magical.

What's so hard to understand about that?
takashi.0
Wow, someone's angry, care to talk it out Takashi? Can't handle the jokes at the game's expense?
MousaThe14
Seen-It-All Sora.
The white creatures that go "Kupo" are Moogles. Recurring element of the Final Fantasy franchise. And yes, Cid's name is pronounced "Sid".

Also, you're in the minority. Quack Pack didn't have a good reception with fans.

Don't get ahead of yourself with that District theory of yours. :P
X2X
Well, if you paid attention, the reason why Cid knows you're from an island is because Sora told him. Notice how there's s pause somewhere? Yeah, that's the part where Sora basically told him his life story, it just got skipped.
angelistoftenshi
You call it a reasonable skip, I call it an incomprehensible cop out.
MousaThe14
And I call it "Do you really want to spend 10 minutes summarizing what you've just played through?" It's the better alternative, really.
SomeColorMage
And all I'm saying is that other games had much more clear and less jarring transitions than what I was presented there. It wasn't clear to me Sora had just told his life story, I thought the designers decided they wanted a perspective change.
MousaThe14
Er, it sounds to me like you'd like Epic Mickey....
ManwiththePlan
From what I learned about Epic Mickey, I would not.
MousaThe14
Yeah first time I arrived in Traverse Town and saw the Tidus-clone I was like "woah, Tidus survived, where's everybody else, what happened to them?!" That would've been an interesting turn of events.
twilightgamer92
You know, speaking of Pete, he's in the second game...but he's not exactly what you'd expect him to be. In fact, he's known around here as Captain Butt-Zipper, if you catch my drift.
DisneyWarrior95
STOP DEPRIVING ME OF DONALD AND GOOFY!
Well, I like occupying scan 24/7. (Unlike in FFX, where either a character occupies it or they don't, which means I have to interchange my characters all over again just to see their HP, and bless me if none of them have it yet...)
Believe it or not, occupying scan is kind of useful in this game. Just saying.
angelistoftenshi
Um... the 99 puppies were scattered across the worlds when the Dalmatians' home was lost to darkness. :|

Also, angel's right about Scan. Besides, you're not at the point where you'll start getting overly useful attack and auxiliary abilities and Scan's pretty cheap, so I'd say just equip it and keep it.
X2X
You have no magic in your soul. D; *cries and runs away*
Hobgoblin
Okay Hobgoblin, tell me why I have no magic in my soul
MousaThe14
Calm down, the whole miss-each-other bit only goes on until the boss fight. Also you don't HAVE to have Scan on, but you'll get plenty of AP for other abilities as you level up, so you might as well stop complaining and leave it on.
nomuru2d
You lose 99 puppies because DARKNESS!
ManwiththePlan
Hunny. Munny, hunny. Hunnymunnyhunny. Mmmmm.
suspiciouscookie
Think they spelled it "munny" because Winnie the Pooh spells honey "hunny." Also the way you react to barely missing Donald and Goofy makes me think you're at the end of An American Tail and you just keep missing your dad.
twilightgamer92
Twilight, I was already told this yesterday. Thanks for the clarification though.
MousaThe14
Heh, yeah, I prefer certain things to be automatic like that. Or at least have it to where I'm not using resources I could be using for other things. It's why I never trade Star Pieces for the Peekaboo mask and just have my Goomba pal use Tattle when I encounter an enemy whose HP I can't see yet. It's why it's kind of annoying that I have to learn an ability that lets me find my party members' XP To Next Level in Dragon Quest IX; I could've had something useful in that slot on the skill tree instead of something I should have by default.
Nyperold
Kings of Leon. Is Leon a King? Oh Who Cares, The Point Is I Can't Find Him
...Hey! Remember Cid? You should probably go talk to him..?
angelistoftenshi
More Final Fnatasy Cameos
Sorry I wasn't more direct.. XD
Hey! At least you're not roaming around...
Also, Yuffie was going to be Rikku from Final fantasy X at first but they changed her because viewers might confuse her name with Riku's (which you did at the beginning of this blog)
angelistoftenshi
Leon's Gunblade is a Vibroweapon; firing the gun causes the blade to vibrate and more easily cut through stuff. The gun doesn't fire any rounds. Don't worry about it; he doesn't even use that function of his Impossibly Cool Weapon in this series anyway.

Also, Squall's going by an alias for reasons that will be revealed later in-game (or maybe in the journal).

The other girl is Yuffie, a ninja from FFVII. Oh, and Tifa is in KHII.
X2X
You actually know Aerith for quite a long while. She's only one one disc out of three, though.

And the whole "her death was sad" thing never really made sense to me. I mean, it's not like Final Fantasy VII is the only game in the [[series with [[ally character death. >_>
Hobgoblin
@Hobgoblin: Oh, so just because other games have character deaths, it makes Aerith's not sad? -_-

Oh, and Tifa is in KHII.

And boy does she not amount to much in it.
ManwiththePlan
Tales of Skies of Trigger.
I'm willing to bet the overzealous scientific son of a filthy whore was the one that released and/or created them due to either madness or to further some evil scheme and he broke the multiverse.

Well, technically..
angelistoftenshi
I'm right again, aren't I?
MousaThe14
I think you may actually like the last quarter of the game. The fetch quest isn't important to you beating the game, but it sheds valuable info on the story.
Vanitas
It's uhh... a bit more complicated than that...
But yeah. Yeah you have the basic story down. .-.
angelistoftenshi
Yes and no actually.
Vanitas
Son of a gun.... I didn't think I was right. I mean I thought I was right, but I didn't actually think I was close. I mean I figured something as popular as KH would have a touch more originality than that. This game's twists better be damn impressive and unexpected.

MousaThe14
So yeah, luckily Kairi was smart enough to die early in the game and instead Sora is having hallucinations of the one he so loves.

Er, not exactly....

ManwiththePlan
But you're on track. You'll definitely get a kick out of the last fifth or so of the game.
X2X
I know, I know, it's obvious she's still around, but i can joke, can't I?
MousaThe14
We should stop confirming his suspicions and again yes and no
Vanitas
Believe me, I think the series gets a little more creative in its sequels and prequel.
twilightgamer92
Heartless In Shining Armour.
Press Triangle to control Donald and Goofy. When their icons are glowing blue, that means they're set to "Charge". When it's not, they're on "Standby" which is essentially not attacking an enemy unless it gets close.

Also, magic is learned after certain battles, not by leveling up. :P
Hobgoblin
To be technical, Square Enix was still Squaresoft back then.

Also, you can go to the menu and customize Donald and Goofy's behavior in battle.
X2X
I actually see Sora as a Squeenix/Disney hybrid, seeing as he raided Mickey Mouse's shoe closet.
twilightgamer92
WHAT!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN MAGIC IS ONLY ADDED BY THE LONG ARM OF THE PLOT?
You'll be back before long. :P
X2X
He'll be back. They always come back. >:3
Hobgoblin
I like being able to choose magic because seriously, more MP means more Cure, and more Cure means being able to survive the final boss.
suspiciouscookie
Sorry Mousa, I have to agree with these guys, KH will draw you into it's web again.
HekirekiNoMakai
What are you even talking about? What does getting magic after certain battles have to do with anything? If you don't need it until a certain point, you don't get it.
Do you like overeleveling your characters too much?
angelistoftenshi (edited by: angelistoftenshi)
The stat differences you pick at the beginning are fairly minor (unless you choose to drop the staff, as -2 AP sucks), it mainly effects which abilities you learn through levelling. I actually like the staff ability order, as offensive magic is much more useful early game and you'll get most of the magic focused abilities early, and once enemies start building up ridiculous resistances to everything except Gravity (and some will even resist that, ugh), you start really building up your physical attacking abilities.
SomeColorMage
Mousa? Are you still here?

Because, if you are, then you should know this is the absolute most hilarious time to quit the game for this particular reason.

Because, you see, that cutscene you just paused so that you could write this rant? Immediately after that cutscene, you learn your first spell. Like, I'm not even kidding. You stopped immediately before you would've learned Fire.
Enlong
QQ more.
AllanAssiduity
Donald and Daffy. Oh Wait, This Isn't About Them, Is It?
See, that BROKEN, TWISTED smile is actually a clue. Scarred by the loss of his home, Sora has become a sociopath and clearly cannot remember how to smile.
suspiciouscookie
"This ship runs on happy faces!" :D
angelistoftenshi
Neverland is the word you're looking for. I you're searching for an eternally twelve-year-old child, something is clearly wrong with you. :P

Actually, you got that backwards. Donald is waaaay more violent than Daffy.

Also, you gotta smile. XP

"You mean like THIS?" (nyeeh)
X2X
I meant if. Darned typo...
X2X
JSYK it's freakier in the manga.

suspiciouscookie
Bad Guys.... I Can Dig It.
If you haven't seen Sleeping Beauty, then you can't rib on Maleficent. Nuff said.

Blizzard is coming up—Turn away from the Coliseum! It will murder you at such a low level. Go to the other world!

Also, the Org. don't come into play until Chain of Memories and II. Enjoy your relatively Mind Screw-less plot.

Also, the Gummi Ship levels get a major rehaul in KH. I have a feeling that would be more up your alley.
X2X
Maleficent can turn into a goddamn dragon. Nothing is greater than that.

You do need to complete Wonderland at some stage. I don't like it much either, but you can get Blizzard out of it.
suspiciouscookie
The fact that she's awesome makes her so badass. I haven't watched Sleeping Beauty, and I love her.
She's also the smartest villain
angelistoftenshi
angel... leave. NOW.

...

Just kidding. But seriously.
X2X
Maleficent is badass. You need to watch SB to understand why, though.

Also, you didn't recognize two of the villains. I am disappoint. >:I
Hobgoblin
You went to OC already? Are you suicidal? xD

Also, Trinities can only be unlocked if Donald and Goofy are with you...but you probably realized that by now. xD
Hobgoblin
Well I was sort of half paying attention because I thought it was one person originally. Also, it's like dark and stuff.
MousaThe14
How the F*** could you NOT recognize James Woods (Hades)!? He was the first villain to speak up!
ManwiththePlan
I don't know, I just didn't hear it very well which is weird. Perhaps it's becuase he sounds like he's phoning it in?
MousaThe14
even though he was a sick perversion of an actual cool guy mythology wise, I still liked Disney's Hades

Hades in mythology was badass, but he had no character. I actually prefer Disney's Hades.
ManwiththePlan
Even Hades Wants Him
(reads last line)

BECAUSE YOU'RE PLAYING THE DAMN GAME.

But seriously, it gets better. Just you wait. :P
X2X
... I thought the queen was scary
angelistoftenshi
Make sure you get allll the pink boxes or no Blizzard!
suspiciouscookie
At least...I think so? Not sure. Haven't played Wonderland in ages.
suspiciouscookie
You can also get Blizzard once you beat the boss, but it's useful in that fight, so try to get it beforehand.
SomeColorMage
Guest Stars and Low Quality Future Update
.. But... I wanted to hear what you said about Tarzan's world. D:
angelistoftenshi
You might want to finish up the Olympus Coliseum before moving onto Agrabah. Doing so will net you a new ability that will come in handy later on down the road, not to mention that it'll help you level up so you're more adequately prepared for tougher foes (like the ones you're bound to fight in Agrabah).
X2X
Wonder By Wonder
Did you found 4 evidence boxes? The fourth one gave you blizzard earlier. XP

Yeah... I feel like we barely got to know Alice at all! D:
(unless you went to talk to her while she was on her cage, that is.)
angelistoftenshi
Um... have you ever watched Alice in Wonderland before? Because that's how the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat were in the film.

Hey, and it's not the Dalmatians' fault that their world was unceremoniously destroyed by the darkness without a second's warning.

She was kidnapped for a reason, Mousa. It was out of everyone's control.

Ah... yes, Lost Jungle. Clayton's there! :D And you start out by... actually, I'll let you see what I mean when you get there.
X2X
It's Deep Jungle, actually.
Sorry, I had to point that out.
angelistoftenshi
I know, X 2 X but I need something to complain about. And I know she was kidnapped for a reason, I'm far beyond that, but the point is "Really? After all that time wasted? Fine!"

And Why am i not allowed to joke about the difficulty of losing 99 puppies? 99 puppies are difficult to lose. I get the context and I understand it perfectly, joke wise it's just fun say "HOW DO YOU LOSE 99 PUPPIES!?"
MousaThe14
The evidence doesn't matter for the most part, but getting a Heartless means that Donald or Goofy (or both) start the battle imprisoned and you have to free them by whacking their cage. Getting your evidence lets you skip that.

Fun Fact: A certain scene that you see later in the game changes if you beat Deep Jungle before Wonderland. Nothing major, you just see Snow White instead of Alice.
Hobgoblin
Deep Jungle is much less confusing to navigate than Wonderland, IMO, so if you made it through Wonderland, you'll make it through Deep Jungle.
ManwiththePlan
The Questions at The Beginning
XD
Poor Mousa. It must suck to be alike to the character you hate the most.
angelistoftenshi
MUAHAHAHAHAHA!
Hobgoblin
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Wait, wait, I'm not done. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Now I'm done.
HekirekiNoMakai
Jungle Fever
You know, on a save point, you can change your Party. There, you are able to change Donald to Goofy if you want him and Tarzan. XD
HEARTLESS FRUITS WILL EAT YOU IN YOUR SLEEEP.

Clayton wasn't being controlled by the Chameleon. XD He summoned it through the power of DARKNESS and then used it to fight against Sora and Co. Also he likes pretending he knows how to float.
angelistoftenshi
Everyone loves James Woods.

Also, Heartless Fruit ftw.
Hobgoblin
P.S.: Not all of the worlds occur during or after the movie. o3o
Hobgoblin
Well, the Heartless fruit was probably made from DARKNESS. That's what everything else Heartless is made from. Well, DARKNESS and dead things.

Oh and, by the time you finish this game, DARKNESS will probably stop sounding like a word.
SomeColorMage
Darkness is a word?
MousaThe14
Heartless Fruit is clearly what you get when you steal the heart from a tree. Naturally.
FreezairForALimitedTime
The Moment I Liked The Game
Olympus Coliseum is revisitable several times for various weapons, skills, items, and the Keyhole.

Also, this isn't really a spoiler and you'll probably rant about this too, but you don't fight Hades in the main story. He's an optional boss in the 4th tournament.
Hobgoblin
Olympus Coliseum is the shortest world in Kingdom Hearts, though. And it's much longer in Kingdom Hearts II.
Hobgoblin
Just wait until you do Monstro. Your rage shall pierce the heavens.
rmctagg09
Yep, you'll find lots of excuses to go back to the Coliseum throughout the rest of the game. Four additional tournaments, plus two bonus bosses.

It's also the only world that's been in all of the games in the series so far.
Serenitas
Actually, Hades is more like the uninterested Sixth Ranger of the Five Bad Band. He really doesn't care about the villains' scheming; he's really out to make Herc miserable, although he's Affably Evil to everyone. And don't you knock on James Woods. Don't. You. Dare. (He's more fired up in II, by the way.)
X2X
Do Monstro. Do it now. :D
Hobgoblin
^^I already said I loved James Wood like 2-5 installments ago. I said that the game animation wasn't good enough for his voice.
MousaThe14
The Greatest Fight Ever and Useless Magic People
...Hehe, you said "Torso Cannon".
Hobgoblin
And yeah, you fought Cloud. How'd you forget him swinging that huge-ass sword of his and zipping back and forth while taunting you before Cerby crushed him under his paws? :P

I went for the torso. You're bound to stop his attacks and simultaneously damage his other limbs if you do. Anyway, this is where the boss battles actually start to pick up in term of cool factor. You're gonna love some of the ones down the road. :D

Simba's Proud Roar is actually useful, but you have to charge it up first. Also, I know that I'm spoiling some stuff, but all of the worlds taken by the darkness are restored at the end of the game. The Pride Lands is a world in II, and Simba even gets to join your party (unfortunately, he angsts for a bit before getting himself together). So, no need to worry.

Also, you did read my note on the forums about needing to still fly to new worlds before you can warp to it?
X2X
...Well, as pointed out in the thread, you're not completely exempt from the gummi segments. It's just that you don't have to do them if you want to go to a place you've already been.

But still, it makes returning to worlds a lot easier (and you're going to have to do a lot of it if you want to pick up all the trinities and dalmations).
Serenitas
X 2 X, you silly ninja.

Oh, and I discovered on my most recent playthrough that you can actually activate the door to Merlin's house right after your first visit to Traverse Town. I don't remember how many of the scenes you can see from there, though. You might still see the scene with Kairi.
Serenitas
Sere, you have to be quicker. ;)
X2X
Yes, you'll still see Kairi.
rmctagg09
Well, Merlin and the Fairy Godmother DO keep a fairly large sidequest for later...
FreezairForALimitedTime
Again, pickin' the stuff at the beginning does change things. Be glad you didn't choose the sword. Choose the sword, and your Defense stat blows, even if you sacrifice the Wand instead of the Shield.
Enlong
The Gummi Ship minigame is a lot better in KHII. Still a rail shooter, but it's actually fun. Kinda.

Riku kidnapped Jasmine. :P

And the best world ever is coming up after Agrabah. >:D
Hobgoblin
... Atlantica? I don't think that's the best world ever...
angelistoftenshi
It's definitely not Atlantica. >_> Maybe Hob slipped up and meant to say Halloween Town/Neverland/Hollow Bastion/etc.

Mousa, if you think Aladdin's great as a party member, wait until you get Ariel and the Beast on your side. Those two are tanks. :D
X2X
Agrabah? That means Monstro is next, right? Ugh, I don't like that place.

Also, yeah, Beast is awesome.
SomeColorMage
Spotty Memory
XDDD Oh you're going to love this world.
HekirekiNoMakai
uuhh... Mousa? You can skip monstro... XD
It's just recommended you finish it, since you get an useful ability before you battle the boss. (And by useful, I mean totally fun. For me, at least.)
angelistoftenshi
Agrabah Flashbacks
When you hold a barrel, to drop it without throwing it you have to press O.

Someone didn't pay attention to Wakka in Destiny Islands~
angelistoftenshi
You expect to find your way out of Monstro? Ever?

Ha ha ha. You poor, foolish soul.
suspiciouscookie
Oh, Monstro. An endless labyrinth of technicolor whale innards. I know you eventually have to get into Chamber 4, but I wouldn't have any idea how to tell you how to get there, and I've probably played the game at least five times by now. Yay for poor level design?
Serenitas
Muahahahahahahaha~

I told you you'd love Monstro. >:D

Your tears are delicious. <3
Hobgoblin
Hobgoblin, you're such a troll.

Yeah, Monstro's the suckiest level in the game. Worse thing is that the chambers all look so darn similar.
rmctagg09
Mousa, I would play you a somber piece on the world's tiniest violin... but that wouldn't help you get out of this hellish level. The questions you need to ask yourself are 1) have you encountered any bosses yet and 2) have you obtained High Jump yet? If not, you have my sympathies.
X2X
Riku: The Fight maker.
I think Riku's only helping you out right now because he needs Pinnochio and I'm not sure, but the last time Sora saw Riku was in Traverse Town when he was just being his usual self.

Watch as Riku becomes a bigger prick.
ZackFair
Mousa, you are also inside the bowels of a Space Whale, so why wouldn't that thing be there too?
If you must know, it's a heartless. Heartless appear everywhere.
angelistoftenshi
Ah, the Parasite Cage. Have fun.

It's not that Riku has confidence issues. He's an Anti Villain who's pissed at Sora for allegedly forgetting about him and Kairi to go on adventures with a duck and a dog. As Zack said, he gets worse. Much, much worse.

Also, anyone in this series who isn't above the age of 15 is short. Sora is only about as tall as Aerith's waist if you look closely. And it isn't until II that he's barely taller than Goofy and Yuffie.

And on the subject of space whales, Jecht gives his regards.
X2X
The Merry Go Round Broke Down
... I think you need to lay down.
angelistoftenshi
Don't worry, all future worlds will make a little more sense than this one. But only a little.
Serenitas
Psst. Mousa. Guess what? You get to fight that boss again and do even more platforming throughout Monstro's belly.

Might I suggest that you take up therapy?
X2X
Might I suggest a good, stiff drink? And by "stiff," I mean "frozen." Popsicles fix nearly everything.
FreezairForALimitedTime
And he never touched the game again.
FreewayKnight
C'mon man you've quit the game just when its about to get good. Mosntro is a pain in the ass,but getting through it is worth the rest of the game.
Jamdat369
Back and Confused.
Psst, I'm pretty sure you haven't finished Monstro yet. There's an entrance above the mouth that you have to high-jump to in order to reach the throat, and then you'll fight another boss soon after.
Serenitas
Foul Movements.
Have you tried using antacids? o3o
Hobgoblin
The Book of Who?
Dumbo's more useful than you think. He's a good early damage-output summon.
nomuru2d
Return Banalween Town.
Oogie's not actually green. He only looks that way in his Villain Song due to the lighting of his lair.
Khfan429
Boogie Down the House.

MousaThe14
Seaing is believing.
You needed the crystal trident because King Triton likes making everything unnecessarily complex.
