Let's Play a random Touhou fan RPG!
Intro

Stage 4 tonight we dine in hell
You neglected to mention that there is one other field enemy sprite than the feet. There's a fairyi nside a circle.

Who turns out to be Kisume.
TARDISES
I did neglect to mention that, didn't I? I guess it wasn't very memorable. I was writing these early entries entirely from memory.
Clarste
Stage 5 this house makes no sense
How am I supposed to find the way aorund Suwakodamnito!? The rooms lead me in circles!
TARDISES
Stage 6 this would normally be the final stage except it's not
It appears you can prevent Saigyouji Flawless Nirvana from being castr if private square's time stop is in effect when you land the killing blow.
TARDISES
Stage 21 between a rock and a hard place
If this game weren't a turn-based RPG I could consider trying it.
nohaynicklibre
Turn-based RP Gs are definitely an acquired taste. Why is the comment on this post though? Did you actually read everything that fast?
Clarste
Lingering Heat
1. Oh my gah it's HINA! She absorbed one misfortune too many!

2. Your ice-cream. I ated it.

3. CIRNO FUCK YEAH
Fawriel
Yeah, that's pretty obviously Hina. Wonder how they'll explain it
Hylarn
I thought it looked like Hina, but didn't want to commit to that. If it is, then she's probably being mind controlled by the whatever, but possibly more vulnerable to it because she attracts misfortune?

Hina's tanking it for us! Bearing the brunt of it for the good of Gensokyo! Don't worry Hina, I'll save you! /wild mass guessing
Clarste (edited by: Clarste)
One Star i'm really not sure what to think
HEY CLARSTE

I had to go to university but I still took the time to read the new stuff you added and it's sooo awesome I especially like the part where things happen

Okay, no, seriously, I'll read it when I get back!
Fawriel
And another comment!

1. Those hottips don't seem to be working. Weird?

2. Is it just me or does that Cirno front-sprite look Igor-esque?

3. Wait is that yukkuri in Cirno's Last Word screenshot an enemy or part of the picture. That picture that is by the way on a strange threshold between being adoracool and really weird.

4.
A) Because it's one of the easiest and B) because its fucking Cirno.
Respect +9
Fawriel
The yukkuri is an enemy. It was the only thing that could hit Cirno without killing her, and last words usually come from taking damage.

And the hottips aren't working? Hm... Well, I haven't put anything important or funny in them. They're just parenthetical notes that don't deserve actual parentheses.
Clarste
They kept the 'start at level 1' thing for the post-game expansion? That kind of sucks
Hylarn
Lithos didn't start at level 1. Either she's special or Cirno is. I think it'd be very appropriate if it was just Cirno though.
Clarste
Two Stars
Cirno could be level 1 and she'd still be kicking ass left and right, yo.
Fawriel
My Rumia shouldn't be this strong!
I suspect the disappearing quests are randomly generated repeatables, to help speed up farming/grinding
Hylarn
Experience-wise they're worthless because the enemies aren't leveled up to endgame level. Item-wise, possibly.
Clarste
That title is kind of brilliant in a stupid way.

Which I guess is a good thing!
Fawriel
Student and teacher pounding mochi
You know what? It's scary when that's considered a mini-post. I think I made the right decision.
Clarste
_/(_)/
Ahahahaha what.

Unrelated, but I was just reading up on new comments on these because apparently I care about that, and I realized, holy crap the new final boss really is Hina! I was kind of joking, but I guess it makes sense. She must have drained all the "bad air" the Gorgons were spreading before... Perhaps in an act of heroism!

It was odd at first, but the more I think about it, the more amazing it is that they actually found something potentially really good to do with this underused character!
Fawriel
Home Security Opera ~ Kaguya Holmes
The quest titles aren't so much weird as they are otaku jokes. Rumia's is based of Ore Imo, this one off Tantei Opera Milky Holmes. Not sure about the Eirin/Reisen one, but it sounds familiar
Hylarn
... Well that was kind of morbidly hilarious.
Fawriel
Oops. Apparently editing older installments pushes them to the front. I don't know how to fix this.
Clarste
The absent guardian deity's greatest tournament
This Dinner is what all true warriors strive for!
Fawriel
Mud Boat Cruise
ミナミツ! マザファッキン! ムラサ!!
Fawriel
The Lady's gone mad!
Congratulations :).
totoro
Thank you. But, for what?
Clarste
If it makes you feel better: They also take a while to read! But they're very enjoyable!

Also, Scarlet Caps and Reisen contemplating her ears. I love this game. Though, that empty speech bubble is quite a bother indeed...

Reading about that battle, it seems like that game is pretty much made for you, though. I've never played an RPG that really expected you to experiment in order to beat bosses.

And the idea that Flandre was just playing along just warms up my heart.
Fawriel
I know they take a while to read because I have to edit them. :(
Clarste
The witch and the maid's underhanded tea party
Bocaj brings it to my attention that the pool is a reference to the ending of SSiB. So Remilia made her put it there. Still feel sorry for the books though, although I suppose it's likely that they're magically protected from humidity.
Clarste (edited by: Clarste)
She mentions that they're protected against pretty much everything in either IaMP or SWR. Don't remember which
Hylarn
... Remilia? Remi-chan, where did you go? *pokes bonnet*
Fawriel
The Witches' Stray Ball
So the counters are based on it being Slashing, Piercing, or Bludgeoning damage, rather than actually being a physical attack?
Hylarn
No. Sakuya gets Master Sparked in the face every turn, but survives because of the anti-Magic ring. Or whatever it is.

Edit: Edited the main post to make that more clear.
Clarste (edited by: Clarste)
Wrong comment section, ignore this.
Clarste (edited by: Clarste)
Waaah! Remilia, she is gone again! Oh no!

... she's just in the Commander position, isn't she.

Well, this was an entertaining battle anyway, disappearing Remis notwithstanding!
Fawriel
Komeiji Zoo
Former prisoner...? Could well be Mima
Hylarn
Oh Jesus hell God Orin and Utsuho are so adorable in this game. Cutest battle aftermath ever? Quite possibly!

I'm less amazed at the evil and more at the fact that Okuu remembers it. Mima, huh? That would work, yeah.

PS: I could've told you not to mess with angelic robots just from looking at them. Hooooly moly.
Fawriel
Urameshiya~
Ahaha, "grudges for sale". That's kind of adorable.

Actually, the title made me think it's about Kogasa! From her Touhou wiki article:
In Undefined Fantastic Object, she says "Urameshiya". "Urameshii" means to hate or be bitter, while "ya" is similar to saying desu or da. It's often translated as "I hate you," or simply "Boo," which has become her catchphrase.
So yeah, it's a ghost thing. I think I've seen Yuyuko call something similar once to scare Youmu.

That was a tough fight, though. I bet you would have had more options if the previous owner dude had been more balanced! Otherwise, this fight would just be mean. Just goes to show that you can't beat Yuyuko when she's doing her super-death thing. I guess it makes sense for her to let loose with that when she's under the influence of Darkness-san.
Fawriel
Well, there you go. I was pretty sure I was missing something. My best guess wasn't a very good guess, even from my perspective, which is why I left it as a translator's note.
Clarste
Stage 22 it is stage 22 now
A Deva of the Mountain living underground... well... maybe it's like with an iceberg and what you see above the ground is only a fraction of the actual mountain!

Also, for a bunch of "these and these" "new guys", those are some serious badasses. Random though the enemies may be, they sure look impressive.

Remilia is quite a survivor, eh?

I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what), I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what)
... a song by the appropriately named "Destiny's Child". Hah!

Also Cirno's action pose is hilariously adorable.

This was a really entertaining chapter. I really enjoy your humor that is mostly very dry and then only makes it funnier when you show traces of silliness.

And of course, we finally learned the truth about Yuugi's ability.

Supernatural Phenomena = Rocks
Fawriel
Oh yeah, I just realized. The fact that only the new characters appeared in that cutscene doesn't mean that the others will never be in any. Maybe it's just that you need all of them to unlock Yuugi, but you'll need all characters to advance further in the plot...

Though I guess by the time you read this, you'll know how it goes on.
Fawriel
Sadly, as much as I would prefer it, I do not have infinite free time, so your prediction was false.
Clarste
Reisen's eyes crashed the game ;_;
Clarste
Nooooooooooooo!
Fawriel
The next boss is proving rather difficult by the way, so this might take a while.
Clarste
Stage 23 the abyss gazes back
Marisa is officially in the party but Alice isn't? Weird
Hylarn
Clarste, my friend, I'm starting to worry a little about what this liveblog does to your health.
Fawriel
Don't worry, it's been overcome through willpower.
Clarste
Does Udongein dream of red-eyed rabbits?
Although admittedly also kind of pointless.
Clarste
Nice to see that this is still ongoing
Hylarn
That was short!

And... and something else.

I'm not sure whether that quest was ridiculous or awesome ridiculous.

Excuse me while I emphasize a word.
Fawriel
Stage 24 second verse same as the first
Man, I have to admit I don't really know what to say about this one!

I guess I'm happy to hear that Reisen is awesome! I'm always happy to hear that a character is awesome. Always better to have only overpowered characters than to have a few overpowered characters who make everyone else completely useless.
Fawriel
The walls were probably nurikabe
Hylarn
Indeed they are, Hylarn.

As for Faw, I wouldn't know what to say either. It's kind of repetitive. Most disappointing boss ever.

In good news though, I bought a new weapon for Yuugi, and it's Suika! The weapon is Suika. Yuugi throws her at monsters. I can't say I expected that.
Clarste
...That's kind of awesome. Suika have any interesting effects?
Hylarn
Not really. It's good against Fairies, Aquatic and Plants, but that's a pretty generic weapon property.

The weapon itself is technically a watermelon, but of course that's pronounced Suika in Japanese so by the law of puns it ends up being Suika in battle.
Clarste
...

That is amazing.

I demand screenshots.
Fawriel
Stage 25 third time's the jinx
Incidentally, I counted this time: this took 7 hours to write. I'm glad I didn't stay up all night for it.
Clarste
Well thank you.
totoro
For what?
Clarste
You have reflect? Can you bounce multi-target spells of it to hit a single enemy repeatedly, like in the Final Fantasy games?
Hylarn
No, as far as I can tell. It works backwards though: they can multi-reflect onto me for massive damage. The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard.

Favorable Wind is also a reflect effect that only works on breath attacks.
Clarste
7 hours! Oh dear. You are quite the determinator yourself.

Poor Hina indeed. It would've been amazing having her as a player character... I'm a little disappointed with Mr. Plot, though! I mean, negative thoughts? You barely even saw any- wait

It only just occurred to me, are all those monsters you kept fighting everywhere supposed to be the standard non-humanoid youkai living in Gensoukyou? ... I thought they were just a consequence of the mist or something.

Okay, I guess then the "negative thoughts" MIGHT make some sense. Absorbing the mist itself would've made more sense to me, though.

On the other hand, a being of pure negative emotions could have some potential for meaning, about how one without common sense is just a slave to lesser drives, something like that. Kinda doubt they'll really explore that, though! At all. Ah well. Hina! It was fun while you lasted!

PS: I'd really like to hear that Muendzuka music now.
Fawriel
The monsters are implied to be standard youkai (the battle resolution screen says "youkai extermination complete"). Possibly they're on a rampage because of the darkness, but they didn't need that excuse last time when all Bio was doing was weakening them. So they would attack you anyway and have nothing whatsoever to do with the incidents. You just fight monsters in RPGs, you know? It's the way the world is.
Clarste
Hina Kagiyama
Misfortune: CAS, status effect strength, causes all her statuses to also lower evasion and resistance
I can imagine how painful it must be for you to imagine that this could have been the character who could make status spells suck less for you... Haha.
Fawriel
Stage 26 my mom says i'm cool
Hopefully these new recipes foreshadow the rare ingredients getting dropped more often
Hylarn
Somehow I doubt that. More like I'm rapidly approaching the final dungeon (again) so they're throwing this new stuff at me despite the high barrier to entry.
Clarste
I suppose I'll have to eat my words. The very first chest in the next dungeon contained Remilia's rare ingredient.
Clarste
Congratulations! I wish you luck on your next dungeon. ( This must be a hard game like Etrian Odyssey.)
totoro
Or I'm just terrible at it. You'll never know.
Clarste
That story at the beginning was at the same time hilarious, adorable, sad and heart-warming. Your mother sounds like a sweet person.

I wish you good luck, too!
Fawriel
Stage 27 bookkeeping
Well just see who the boss is then see what strategy you need to defeat. Upgrade the characters needed in the strategy. That is how I do it in games. Have fun against the new monsters.
totoro
I'll almost certainly need all three parties, but of course not everyone is an attacker. The zodiac theme continues and it's almost certainly a multi-stage boss. The Ox gates killed me.
Clarste
Weapons for Sakuya and Remilia, armour for Sanae and Alice, and something for Byakuren
Hylarn
Armor, eh? That actually wasn't on my agenda at all, but I suppose it makes more sense. Armor has completely different requirements actually, so it doesn't use up my Orichalcon. It uses up Adamantite instead, but also uses up more of the character-specific materials. Even then though, I could spread out my materials better if I made armor too. I have another 5 Adamantites.
Clarste
Armor for Cirno! Like, a Ribbon or something. A ribbon that grants crazy defenses but makes her weak to status effects for no reason.

Okay, so I have no idea.

Actually, does everyone even have their own weapon type? What do Cirno and Satori and Patchy and Alice and folks use for melee attacks? And do weapons have any effect for spellcasters as well? I forget...
Fawriel
Everyone has their own weapon type. It's in their profile, although I don't expect you to memorize each one. Weapons can have magic power on them, although the jump in power would be smaller for magic attack than it would be for physical attack so I'm more reluctant to upgrade caster weapons in general.

Cirno: Ice. She seems to freeze the air into the shape of a mace. More importantly, equipping the new one increases her Ice damage by 40% as a passive bonus. Since that's all she does, it's just a big boost to her damage output.

Satori: Eyes. Things like that eye on her chest. I don't know how she replaces. When she attacks it seems to shoot a little laser. Her upgrade would increase her non-elemental damage by 40%. I don't even know if she has non-elemental attacks.

Patchouli: Books. She just hit them over the head with the book. Her upgrade would give her more magic defense and increase Light and Dark magic by 25%. I have no idea why you'd want that since she's terrible at light and dark magic. However, it also gives her spells the Exorcism property that lets them hurt divine enemies.

Alice: Boots. I guess this is based on her famous shin-kick in the fighting games. Boots have a chance of stunning on hit, but I'm never going to attack with Alice ever. Some of them give elemental resistances though.
Clarste
Cirno's actually sounds worth getting, then! Other than that, I guess... boost your main physical attackers? ._.;

...

I just realized what I should have asked: What is Yuugi's ultimate weapon? A... big Watermelon?
Fawriel
Hmm... let's see...

A galaxy. She throws a galaxy. That's what it says.
Clarste
...

well then
Fawriel
resistance is futile
You say that the Master isn't Youki, but I'm pretty certain that that sprite is based on Youki's generally accepted appearance

That fairy in Cirno's quest portrait looks scarily like Yuuka
Hylarn
Ending on a good note is good. Congratulations on beating an 8 Star quest!
Fawriel
So...

How's it coming along?
Makuta9999
I ended on a good note!

Lost motivation to fight the final boss. Again.
Clarste
The final boss is that bad?
Makuta9999
Where do I found game?
