* AcceptableTargets:
** "Rule #1: Cardio." Columbus warns the viewer that being able to outrun zombies is a survival skill and that "the fatties" fell first due to being out of shape.
** "I'm in Garland, Texas. It may look like the zombies destroyed it, but [[TakeThat that's actually just Garland.]]"
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Arguably, the Big Four are all dealing with the zombie apocalypse and the resulting tragedy in their own way. Tallahassee is all about killing zombies in creative ways so he [[spoiler: doesn't have to think about his son being horribly killed]]. Wichita screws over the guys repeatedly because she doesn't want to deal with all the death. Little Rock is adamant about getting to Pacific Playland so she doesn't have to deal with the fact that everyone she knows is dead, other than Wichita (and Wichita is just trying to make her happy so she has a goal to focus on). And Columbus? Well, Columbus is actually kind of normal. Maybe repressing.
* AngstWhatAngst: Columbus ''really'' takes [[spoiler:accidentally killing Bill Murray]] in his stride, and Tallahassee seems to get over the death of his idol fairly quickly. Then again, so does [[spoiler:Murray]]. Might be related to surviving a ''zombie apocalypse.''
* AwardSnub: For the 2010 {{MTV}} Movie Awards, Jesse Eisenberg is nominated for "Best Frightened Performance" -- but Woody Harrelson was not nominated for "Most Badass Performance"! Instead, AngelinaJolie was nominated for ''Salt'', a movie that '''hadn't even premiered yet!'''
* CrazyAwesome: Tallahassee is the [[TropePantheons patron saint]] of this trope and his face formerly graced its page.
* CriticalResearchFailure: Wichita says that {{Anaconda}} was the first R rated film she saw. Anaconda is PG-13.
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** The whole thing, but especially when Columbus [[spoiler:bashes the clown's head in and his rubber nose squeaks]].
** The revelation that [[spoiler:Tallahassee lost his only son]] being followed by "I haven't cried like that since ''Film/{{Titanic}}''".
*** And then drying his tears with a stack of hundred dollar bills.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome:
** {{Metallica}}'s "For Whom The Bell Tolls" over the opening credits
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNwl4XPOtj8 "Estasi Dell Anima", the absolutely dripping-with-epic song]] that plays at [[spoiler:Tallahassee's seemingly last stand]].
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3QV5YMb0YQ Two of the Lucky Ones]] is also win-tier.
** Van Halen's "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mTUMmJBXDw Everybody Wants Some!]]" features ''awesomely'' in the trailers and also plays during the [[CrowningMomentOfFunny redneck gun stash scene]].
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Unsurprisingly, Mexican audiences laughed pretty darn hard when Tallahassee comments ''"In Mexico, you know what they call Twinkies? 'Los submarinos.'"'' It's totally true! And [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYPfaWd4wjw there's various flavors]] too!
* HarsherInHindsight: Hostess, makers of Tallahassee's beloved Twinkies, [[http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203436904577153092304399110.html?KEYWORDS=hostess may not survive long enough to see a zombie apocalypse.]]
** And now, Hostess is officially dead. Tallahassee's gonna have a hard time finding his Twinkies.
** Now counts instead as HilariousInHindsight since [[http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/06/24/195232446/twinkies-ho-hos-other-hostess-cakes-to-return-on-july-15 Hostess also rose from the dead!]]
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Columbus mentions how he's glad that {{Facebook}} is no longer relevant in Zombieland. His actor JesseEisenberg went on to play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in "TheSocialNetwork".
** For those who recognize the ''VideoGame/Left4Dead'' influence and have a black sense of humor, [[spoiler:people named Bill don't exactly have good luck with zombies, do they?]]
** Both Creator/AbigailBreslin and Creator/EmmaStone, who plays sisters Little Rock and Wichita, are respectively known for portraying a character named [[StarMakingRole Olive]] [[Film/LittleMissSunshine before]] and [[Film/EasyA after]] this film.
** Little Rock not knowing who Creator/BillMurray is can be quite hilarious considering he was the original choice to play Creator/AbigailBreslin's CoolUncle in her [[Film/LittleMissSunshine breakout film]] three years prior.
** Tallahassee being quite TriggerHappy is this since in Creator/WoodyHarrelson's [[Film/{{Defendor}} previous film before this]], he plays a character who DoesNotLikeGuns.
** Just the fact that [[CaliforniaDoubling the actual filming locations are in Georgia]], which would become the setting of [[Series/TheWalkingDead the next big zombie show.]]
* MemeticMutation:
** "The Rules" were everywhere for a while.
** Also, whatever city you live in/would head for once the ZombieApocalypse hits is your official "Zombieland name".
** Tallahassee drying his eyes on a handful of banknotes is often used on the internet as a .gif reaction image for mitigating one's sadness with your overwhelming good fortune.
* {{Narm}}: Wichita's statement that Creator/BillMurray has a "direct line to my funny bone" is an incredibly awkward statement to be coming from a modern teenaged girl.
* NauseaFuel: Zombie dribble.
* OneSceneWonder: Sister Cynthia Knickerbocker, a sweet old lady who ''drops a piano on a zombie'' for Zombie Kill of the Week. Six seconds of screentime, and one of the most memorable scenes of the movie.
* PeripheryDemographic: For a zombie horror-comedy (and so, marketed to a male audience) this movie has a very large female fanbase; good character development for the balanced core cast and the {{Adorkable}} male leads probably contributed.
* SpiritualLicensee: To ''VideoGame/Left4Dead'' in a lot of respects. To ''DeadRising'' in others, especially to how most players approached that game as a means of finding the most unique way to kill zombies.
* TooCoolToLive: Tallahassee [[spoiler:subverts this]], but [[spoiler: Bill Murray]] does not
