* FauxSymbolism: Angel wings! Feathers! Crosses! Sunflowers! ''Zetsuai'' itself has very little of this, but the later volumes of ''Bronze'' go crazy with the random symbolism -- Kouji's new band is even called "Kreuz", German for "cross".
* FetishRetardant: The OAV have an... odd art style, especially for the supposed bishonen YaoiGuys who end up having spider-leg fingers and chins so pointy they could be used as weapons. Just take a look at the picture shown [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/zetsuai-and-bronze in this review]] and decide if you'd find that sexy. ("When you're screaming at the screen for the bishounen to put his shirt back ON, you know there's something wrong.")
* HilariousInHindsight: Takuto Izumi is voiced by TakehitoKoyasu, and also heavily inspired by a CaptainTsubasa character named Kojiro Hyuga. Flashforward to 10 years after the Zetsuai OAV... and TakehitoKoyasu is the newest seiyuu for ''Hyuuga''. First he voiced the {{expy}} and later he voiced the original.
* {{Wangst}}: [[http://zarla.dreamwidth.org/370349.html Zarla]] best sums it up: "As for what [Zetsuai's] about, there's only one word that really sums the whole thing up, and that word is MELODRAMA. ENDLESS MELODRAMA. ANGST LIKE YOU'VE NEVER ANGSTED BEFORE MEN."
