* {{Anvilicious}}: Racism and closed class systems? Bad.
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Dean get a lot of criticism for being a IdiotHero that appears to have been taken from some generic [[ShonenDemographic shonen anime]]. Him being too simple-minded and ObliviousToLove also annoys many players, but still there is fans that enjoy his optimist and determination, and consider him better than [[Videogame/WildArms4 Jude Maverick]].
** Rebecca. Some fans consider her "bitchy" for her temper, "whiny" for fawning over Dean but [[CanNotSpitItOut not being brave enough to tell him]], and "annoying" for writing major events down in her {{Diary}}. Others enjoy her [[GenkiGirl energetic personality]] and think that her flaws helps to make her a more realistic and a better written character.
** Avril, while not as divisive as Dean and rebecca, is seen by some fans as a walking plot device and get some criticism for forcing the [[AnAesop moral of the story]] during the cutscenes, making casual chats turn into out-of-place philosophical debates about racism and closed class systems. On the other hand, some fans liked the her maturity, the [[spoiler:Ice Queen twist]] and enjoyed her HeartwarmingMoments during the ending.
** Chuck is also compared negatively to [[Videogame/WildArms4 Arnaud]] and criticized for losing Lucille to Fereydoon.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: In the Desecrated Shrine, the gang suddenly come across an abandoned porn magazine that just happens to be there. HilarityEnsues, and is never mentioned again. Not even when you find the Adult Mag BonusBoss, which this was probably foreshadowing.
* CompleteMonster: Kartikeya initially appears to be an average PsychoForHire, but it's revealed later via flashbacks that he [[spoiler:shot Greg's [[WouldHurtAChild 5-year-old son Ted]] for trying to protect his mother, and his wife Mary for trying to protect Greg]] for no real reason other than it was a fun way to play with his new ARM. His reason for [[spoiler:attacking Greg and then letting him live after murdering his family]], again, was [[ForTheEvulz just for the fun of it]].
* DieForOurShip: Those who ship Dean with Avril/Rebecca hate the other girl for getting in the way.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: While the cast is divisive, Greg is known as a well written adult character and a MemeticBadass.
* EvilIsSexy: Persephone. [[spoiler: Although she [[HiddenHeartOfGold isn't really that evil]].]]
* FridgeHorror: [[spoiler: After Kartikeya shoots himself and leaves a huge hole in his own gut, there's a severe lack of {{Gorn}} where {{Gorn}} ought to be. [[{{Squick}} But do we really wanna know why this guy seems to lack organs?]] (It could be chalked up to lazy 3D modelling, but still...)]]
* GeniusBonus: There's an elephant BonusBoss called "Chaugnar Faugn." It's actually a reference to an obscure EldritchAbomination from the Franchise/CthulhuMythos.
* HateSink: Kartikeya.
* {{OT3}}: Avril/Dean/Rebecca is extremely common in FanFic.
* {{Narm}}: While his voice actor does a good job most of the time, Nightburn's commercial.
** [[NarmCharm Considering how goofy and over the top it is, probably intentional.]]
* NightmareFuel: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oLacupZpRs The use of the Darkness Tear]].
* PlayTheGameSkipTheStory: The game is most know for it's improved battle system than for it's plot and characters.
* TheScrappy:
** Kartikeya. While he is also a HateSink due to his AxCrazy personality and the many crimes he commited, many fans found the character to be too one dimensional, boring and uninteresting.
** Many have found Carol's voice to be a bit annoying. It's even [[LampShadeHanging lampshaded]] in her Ex. File entry!
** The Hatred is also disliked for [[spoiler:being a GiantSpaceFleaOutOfNowhere and a lazy excuse to justify Volsung actions]]. See TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter.
* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: One of the best ''Franchise/WildArms'' games by far, but notable is the improvement of the HEX-system. Rather than having to choose, all characters can both move ''and'' perform an action during their turn (In ''VideoGame/WildArms4,'' only [[GameBreaker Raquel]] could do this). Experience is also evened out and abundant. In addition, half of the characters don't have to be next to their targets to attack, with Rebecca and Greg being able to shoot anything in a straight line and Carol being able to shoot any HEX she wants.
* ThatOneBoss: Several, but the Four Sentinels (Kartikeya especially) are among the most difficult each having an attack that deals insane amount of damage being downright OneHitKill. The fact they have means to counter their own weaknesses also doesn't help either. And to make matters worse, you immediately have to fight them again as a DuelBoss.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: [[spoiler: The Hatred could have made for a horrifying BiggerBad or TheCorruption, seeing as how it's pretty much ''[[VideoGame/EarthBound Giygas]] with a mind!'' Sadly, it was only referenced a few times mid-game and is not seen again until the end.]]
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: General consensus is that the ending is less interesting than it could have been on several accounts: [[spoiler:explaining Avril's amnesia with "It was a StableTimeLoop" and Volsung's villainy with "He was [[DemonicPossession possessed]]."]] Many were hoping for more intricate, complex answers to those questions, rather than [[spoiler:explanations that can literally be summed up in one trope]]. There's also the fact that the ending leaves a lot of unanswered questions (such as the fates of [[spoiler:Nightburn, Persephone, and Captain Bartholomew when they go to help fight the golems]])
