* AdaptationDisplacement: In other parts of the world there are a few people that are genuinely surprised that this three part OVA is based off [[VideoGame/AdvancedVariableGeo a game series]]. This is because it was the only part of the ''Variable Geo'' franchise to leave Japan.
* AntiClimaxBoss: Yuka and Satomi never get the chance to actually fight [[spoiler: [[BigBad Miranda]]]]. Instead, once Satomi is freed from her control, [[spoiler: Miranda]]'s [[SoulJar spirit remains trapped within the cyber drive]]; leaving her utterly defenseless. So [[OneHitKill when they destroy it]], she goes along with it.
* BrokenBase: There are fans who question why they included the "losing conditions" from the original {{H-Game}}s in a story based off the [[BleachedUnderpants more mainstream]] reboots. Others wonder why they didn't just go the [[{{hentai}} other direction]] entirely.
* EvilIsSexy: [[spoiler: Miranda.]]
* FridgeHorror: The series concludes with the opening exchange of the final bout, which is a default level-1 match. Meaning, regardless which of them wins, the other will be subjected to [[ADateWithRosiePalms public humiliation.]] Worse, Yuka is likely to be the winner, [[AlwaysSecondBest since she's defeated Satomi several times already.]] Think about that, then look at TheWoobie entry at the bottom.
* {{Narm}}: Erina's rant in the english dub; particularly when Yuka [[WarriorTherapist tries to reach out to her with her heart]] and she rejects it.
-->'''Erina: ([[LargeHam dramatically]])''' "[[PunctuatedForEmphasis NO! TRUST!]] RAAAAAGGEEE!!"
** There's also Chiho's reaction when she enters the roof of the Jihana research facility:
-->'''Chiho:''' "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQBu1v0l3PA A ROSE GARDEN!?]]" [[{{Sting}} *cue music sting*]]
* NeverLiveItDown[=/=]OldShame: Kaori hasn't forgotten the humiliation she suffered when she lost to Reimi, during the finals of the previous tournament. Since the finals is a default level-1 match, Kaori had to [[spoiler: strip and masturbate in the arena, while Reimi watched.]] [[TookALevelInBadass She's improved since then]] and re-enters VG with the intent to [[ItsPersonal settle the score.]]
* [[DudeNotFunny Not Funny, Lady!!]]: An [[Administrivia/InUniverseExamplesOnly in-universe example]] occurs during Satomi's match with Ayako, who sexually harassed her by repeatedly [[ClothingDamage shredding her clothing]] while making [[LesYay lewd comments]] about her body. Satomi warns her twice to knock it off and fight seriously. But, when Ayako [[RageBreakingPoint goes so far as to grope her]], she [[spoiler: [[NoKillLikeOverkill incinerates the ring and Ayako along with it]]; leaving her unconscious and covered in second degree burns!]]
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: From the moment of her introduction, [[CulturedBadass it's made clear]] that [[LadyOfWar Reimi]] is the woman to beat, being that she's the reigning champion of the VG tournament. [[TheHero Yuka]] is the up and coming challenger, who lives for [[SpiritedCompetitor the thrill of the fight]]. A showdown seems inevitable and is seemingly foreshadowed when [[SlowMotionPassBy they pass each other, on the highway...]] except it wasn't allowed to happen.
** Instead, Reimi winds up facing off against the [[BrainwashedAndCrazy cyber drive enhanced]] Satomi, in an unsanctioned match. Just as she's on the cusp of victory [[spoiler: Miranda activates the seed [[EnemyWithin she implanted in Reimi's body]], which binds her and saps her strength.]] Since she could no longer fight, Reimi gets eliminated from the competition, and Satomi is ruled the winner by default. Thus, ''she'' ends up being the one to face Yuka, in the final match.
* TheWoobie: Satomi was the primary example, having had a generally crappy life between her parents deaths, living in [[PerpetualPoverty perpetual poverty]] while trying to support herself and [[IllGirl her brother, Daisuke.]] Then being [[DealWithTheDevil all but blackmailed]] into entering the VG tournament in order to save him, and finally being subjected to the Cyber Drive project.
** Then the truth about [[spoiler: Reimi's upbringing]] came to light, revealing she began as this trope, and eventually hardened into a cross between an IronWoobie and an IronLady.
