* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The series had plenty of catchy songs. Standouts include the show's theme song, "Christmastime Is Here" from the Christmas special, the klezmer-style "Oh, What a Feeling!" from the Hanukkah special, "Shaboom, Shaboom" from the episode "Wake Up, Holly," "Noses Run in My Family" from "Hanky Panky," "Jacob's Flying Song" from Chuck Chickadee's debut episode, Holly's lullaby "Sleep, Little Friend" from two different episodes, and the three songs from "Porch Party."
* EpilepticTrees: Throughout the course of the series, Holly is never shown to have, or to have had, a boyfriend or husband — and, [[ValuesDissonance for obvious reasons]], the series couldn't depict her as a lesbian, either. As a result, we are left with a main human character who apparently can't get a date to save her life — which has lead many fans to the conclusion that Gloria, Iggy, and Jacob are nothing but figments of the imagination of a lonely paranoid schizophrenic.
* NightmareFuel: A truly bizarre episode had Jacob become so infatuated with his favorite T-shirt that he never wanted to take it off. He was finally convinced to wear something else when he dreamed that his shirt ''came to life'' (looking somewhat like a ghost) and ordered him to stop wearing it all the time in the most high-pitched, eerie, childlike voice one could imagine. Yes, it sounds like {{Narm}}, but try telling that to a preteen. What made it even worse was [[TalkingInYourSleep Jacob's terrified babbling of, "I promise....I promise...."]] even after the apparition had vanished.
* PeripheryDemographic: ''Under the Umbrella Tree'' was popular with adults, who appreciated the show's sitcom antics.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong:
** Parts of the extended theme heard in the credits sound a lot like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdDd7Csl5vc the Algorithm Exercise.]]
** The song "Everybody's Raring to Go" from the episode "Walkathon" sounds very much like Ray Anthony's "The Bunny Hop."
* TearJerker:
** In the Halloween special, Iggy sprains his ankle and has to stay overnight at the animal hospital on Halloween. He and his friends sing a DistantDuet about how much they miss each other.
** "Farewell Findley," the episode where the Umbrella Tree gang's pet goldfish [[DeathIsASadThing dies]], is touching for anyone who's lost a pet.
** The 2020 [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzLxslAlxSA Mask Special]], in which the cast reunites to teach kids how to safely navigate the UsefulNotes/Covid19Pandemic. The special itself is a blend of awesome, heartwarming and funny, but for adults who grew up with the show, it's poignant to see how much Holly Larocque has aged, to hear how the puppeteers' voices have aged, and to see the characters having to deal with the dangerous pandemic like the rest of us: it creates a sense of InnocenceLost.
