* CrossesTheLineTwice: Repeatedly. Once they went so far they actually called themselves out on it, noting in a footnote that a Dana Plato joke "is a lot less funny once you realize she's dead." One other strip had a flashback of Captain America finding Bucky's body dangling from a noose while Music/INXS' "New Sensation" played in the backgroundINXS' lead singer Michael Hutchence committed suicide by hanging; rumors contend that it was a botched attempt at autoerotic asphixiation.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** There was a strip about the Manly Men of Action, the greatest action heroes of the 80s and 90s (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Dolph Lundgren) several months before it was announced that those four exact people would be making a movie together, Film/TheExpendables. A later strip starring the Manly Men of Action lampshades this, with the writers insisting the movie was their idea in the first place.
** At one point the Human Torch claimed he was adopted. Then along came Fant4stic...
** "Project Greenlight" saw the Green Goblin being featured on MTV Cribs spotlighting his massive fame and fortune following his appearance in the then-upcoming first Spider-Man film. At one point, an interviewer asks him about the rumor he'll appear in the sequel, with him responding the filmmakers hadn't signed a villain yet. Sure enough, though he wouldn't be the main villain, the Goblin actually would make a cameo appearance in the sequel (both sequels, actually).
*** The plot of that particular story has Venom, Lizard, and Red Skull all try to become Spider-Man's new archenemy so they'll get to be in the sequel and receive the same massive payout as the Goblin. Sure enough, the Lizard would go on to appear in Spider-Man 2 (though as his human form Dr. Curt Connors; the actual Lizard wouldn't appear in a Spider-Man film until Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan), while both he and Venom would appear in the immediate sequel.
*** Red Skull's reasoning for wanting to appear in the Spider-Man sequel? "Der Captain America movie sucked and der sugar cookies will come flyink out mein ass before dey make der sequel." Of course, since this story came out around 2001-ish, the Captain America movie in question was the 1990 disaster starring Matt Salinger; the Captain America movie that probably came to your mind wouldn't be released until roughly a decade after this story's publication, with a much more stellar reception than the previous film (and featuring the Red Skull, who, yes, did technically appear in its sequel via archival footage).
