* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The weird bit with the ship's cats towards the end. The Moon Men insist the crew leave the two cats behind, so the crew takes the cats' cages outside. We see an ominous shadow fall over the poor kitties, and then... nothing. No mention is made of why the Moon Men wanted the cats (beyond finding them "interesting"), [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse or the felines' ultimate fate]].
* FairForItsDay: For a movie made in 1960, the treatment of the Turkish, Nigerian, and Soviet characters is pretty remarkable. The Turkish Muslim character is almost progressive by ''today's'' standards. Even though there's a lot of unfortunate implications with Hideko it is pretty amazing that she gets a lot more screen time than the film's single Caucasian woman.
* {{Narm}}: The bravery of David and Heinrich's HeroicSacrifice is significantly undercut by the fact that David appears to be sitting in Heinrich's lap the entire time.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: The [[strike:Corn Pops]] asteroid field. Also when [[spoiler:Heinrich and David]]'s ship crashes.
** The lights in the ceiling of the moon set are visible in a couple of shots. Probably wouldn't be visible when shown in widescreen, though.
* StrangledByTheRedString: Sigrid and Selim's attraction pretty much comes out of nowhere.
