* AmericansHateTingle: While not at the same level as One Direction, The Wanted are a very popular boy band in the UK and Ireland, with two number-one hits and a long string of top 10 hits. Internationally, however, as their rivals became a huge teen phenomenon, The Wanted got steamrolled. Aside from a massive hit with "Glad You Came" (and a moderately successful follow-up "Chasing The Sun"), they have flat-out bombed everywhere else.
* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The band bombed in the United States because they were being pushed as a boy band. Unfortunately, their members were all in their early 20s at the time they started to release music there, so they proved to be unable to build up the teenage girl fanbase that helps boy bands succeed. The boy band image also alienated adult listeners, who were also growing tired of the electropop sound dominating the airwaves at the time.
* AwardSnub: They're winless at the Teen Choice Awards. To put that into comparison, One Direction are undefeated.
* FandomRivalry: The arguments between the "[=TWFanmily=]" and "Directioners" can get pretty nasty. And, when you consider how much larger 1D's fanbase is than The Wanted's, these fights can seem extremely lopsided.
* FriendlyFandoms: In contrast, Wanted fans and fans of Music/ArianaGrande (another artist whose following dwarfs The Wanted's) are generally good friends after Nathan and Ariana sang a duet named "Almost Is Never Enough" and later began dating.
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: The fandom pairs Jay with everyone.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Most commonly Tomax, Jiva, and Jaythan but they exist for all pairings.
* SpiritualSuccessor: As a DarkerAndEdgier British boy band who served as TheRival to a contemporaneous boy band that was much LighterAndSofter (being essentially, the Veronica to their Betty), they can easily be compared to East 17.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong:
** The background "Oh oh's" in "Lose My Mind" are sampled from Music/KingsOfLeon's "Use Somebody".
** The hook of "Chasing the Sun" sound similar to the first set of notes from the theme of Franchise/TheElderScrolls.
** Their single "I Found You" is essentially a musical sequel to their massively successful single "Glad You Came".
