* AudienceAlienatingEnding: The final book in the Pine Hollow series ends with the eponymous stable burning down and the deaths of five horses. What's more, the subsequent ending of the book is rather abrupt, not even offering the typical level of resolution for a DownerEnding, making it that much more difficult for readers to get their heads around.
* BrokenBase:
** The TV series based off the books. Some fans say that [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks it didn't hold enough relevance to the books]] (amongst other things) whilst others felt it was a worthy adaptation with all the charm of the book series still intact.
** And then there's a broken base regarding the TV series itself: the third season. You had fans complaining about the re-casting of all the major roles; you had fans complaining that the series wasn't a ''Pine Hollow'' adaptation carrying on with the original cast; and then, of course, there were the fans who were just happy to see the show on the air again.
* DesignatedHero: The Saddle Club's actions in Season 3's "The Duchess and the Donkey" are extremely suspect. Stevie can't ride because of a broken arm so Lisa and Carole decide not to ride until she can out of solidarity. Veronica bets her new saddle that they can't stick to it; if they ride, she gets to be their leader. Lisa and Carole try to ride a visiting horse in secret and Veronica catches them out. Somehow, this is portrayed as Veronica being sneaky, and the Saddle Club making up a nasty initiation ritual to get her to decline to join is treated as a happy ending. But given that they'd likely have claimed her saddle if they hadn't been caught out, it's hard not to see Veronica as the one hard done by.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Desi and Simon, even for those who don't like season 3 tend to like them. Desi for becoming a friend of Veronica but not being a jerk to the Saddle Club and Melanie and Jess, and Simon for his character arc throughout the series.
* JerkassHasAPoint: In an early episode, Veronica is treated like a brat for complaining when Max adds another rider to her private lesson. But while she loses sympathy for taking it out on the other rider by being nasty to him, she's not wrong to think that if her parents paid a premium for a private lesson, that's what she should get. At the very least, Max should pay back/give them a future credit for the cost difference between a private and a semi-private lesson, and even then he really should have asked her or her parents first rather than just make the change unilaterally.
* JerkassWoobie: Veronica is actually quite a sympathetic character on several occasions.
* MemeticMutation: Jokes about Lisa constantly falling ill or become injured in the TV series were widespread for a while.
* PuppyLove: Stevie and Phil in season 1 (they get together later). As do Belle and Teddy.
* ShipTease: Desi and Simon in later episodes of the third season.
* TearJerker: [[spoiler: Cobalt's death.]]
** Also [[spoiler:Pepper and Delilah in the book series, and Prancer in the ''Pine Hollow'' sequels.]]
** The end of the ''Pine Hollow'' series, when [[spoiler:Pine Hollow burns down. Thankfully they manage to save most of the horses, but five horses are killed, including three that had made enough appearances for readers to become fond of them (Geronimo, Diablo, and Firefly), and it's clear that nothing will ever be the same.]]
* ValuesResonance: The George Wheeler arc in ''Pine Hollow'' is a realistic and nuanced portrayal of a [[StalkerWithACrush teen stalking situation]] that only gains more relevance with the increased awareness of both stalking and teen dating violence that's emerged in the years since the series was published.
