* AssPull: Pretty much the opinion of the fandom when Konomi introduced the concept of [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands "The Tennis Pinnacles"]], with many of the fans labelling the series as "Tennis Dragonball" after that point.
* AwesomeEgo: Atobe. The guy really knows how to put on a show, organize parties and make an entrance (by dropping to school in parachute from a jet, mind you.)
* AwesomeMusic, EarWorm: Many of the Openings for the matter.
** From the Musicals:
*** ''This is the Prince of Tenis~!''
*** ''Do your Best~! Do your Best~!''
*** ''Hyotei! Hyotei! Koori no Emperor~!''
*** ''On my Way! On my Way! On my waaay~!''
*** ''Fight On! Get On! Keep On! Step Uuuuuup~!''
* BaseBreaker: Ryoma, Atobe, Horio, and to a lesser extreme Sakuno.
* BishonenJumpSyndrome: By far, Prince of Tennis is the most infamous offender of this, since the biggest portion of the fandom are girls.
* CrazyAwesome: The series at least has motivated half of the fandom to buy a racquet and take tennis lessons.
* CreatorsPet: Echizen, but only in the manga since he's quite more sympathetic in the anime and the musicals.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: Just when you thought [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hok0dsrNBlg Sukeeru]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4ksY9Tgoqg Koutekishu]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCpexY3it2I Honki Moodo]] were great, the movie gives you a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR7tF5WC08o truly amazing compilation remix of it all.]]
* DieForOurShip:
** Several characters, but specifically: Sakuno (Ryoma/anyone shippers, but Momo/Ryo and Tzu/Ryo fans are specially bad), Yukimura (Atobe/Sanada fans) and Yanagi (Inui/Kaidoh fans). To a milder degree Momoshiro (Inu/Kai too), Kawamura and Saeki (Tezu/Fuji for both).
** An doesn't have it THAT bad, but she still gets pot shots for "stringing Kamio along" and "playing with his feelings." Which brings up rather creepy UnfortunateImplications about how women should "owe" men love because they show open interest on them. (or for that matter, ''anyone'' owing anybody else love in such circumstances.)
* DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome: Ryoma.
* DracoInLeatherPants: Atobe, Yukimura, Kite. ''And'' their teams.
* EnsembleDarkHorse:
** Hyotei. The entire team is the most popular rival school, to the point that Konomi managed to bring Hyotei back for the nationals. It's debatable if the fanbase is larger than Seigaku's. Special mention to Atobe and Oshitari, clearly the two most popular from the team.
** Almost as popular as Hyotei, there's also the Rikkaidai entire team. The eight of them ''HAVE'' to appear somehow in the series. Mainly Sanada, Yukimura and Kirihara, and close call to Niou as well.
** Another big example of this showcase is to count the returning characters for New Prince of Tennis. If a character is in that training camp, there you have your Fan Favorites, including the return of former Seigaku Captain, Yamato Juudai, and CanonForeigner Ryoga Echizen.
** From New Prince of Tennis, Irie Kanata is the only highschooler in the ranking poll, helped a lot by the fact that his voice actor is Hiroki Aiba (the thirth Fuji in the Tenipuri Musicals). Also it seems Tokugawa is shaping into another Dark Horse.
* FoeYay: Like you wouldn't even believe! It also doubles as {{Fanservice}}.
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: ''Literally''. Konomi actually created a character named "Urashima ''Shiit''a". Crowned by the fact that his hair has a swirl on top and his favorite food are ice cream flavored of ''chocolate, coffee and chestnut''. [[SarcasmMode Ha ha, Konomi]].
* GodModeSue:
** Ryoma is ''very'' frequently accused of being one of these by his anti-fans. When a 12 year old boy is already a 4 time tennis champ (in the US) it's kinda hard not to see it. But still, lots of the accusations come from rabid Atobe and/or Rikkaidai fans... who then go and make ''them'' {{Mary Sue}}s and try to pass them as BetterThanCanon.
** Other character who have been given the GodModeSue ball at one point or another are Yukimura, Fuji, Tezuka, Sanada, Atobe and Kevin Smith from the anime.
** Also there's Ryoga, who counts as a straight up MartyStu: He is Ryoma's ''older brother'' (it's explained he is adopted, because his mother died and Nanjiro took him in), he is better than Ryoma at Tennis and his first appearance in the movie showcases him doing awesome stuff (was hired by a wealthy man to play tennis on his team, played tennis against Ryoma ''on a sinking ship'', and not only survived, but he also got away on a jetski to the sunset). His popularity was so big, that not only he appeared again in the [=OVAs=], but Konomi also made him a CanonImmigrant by including him in New Prince of Tennis.
* HoYay: [[HoYay/ThePrinceOfTennis Has its own page!]]
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: ...Who has ''NOT'' been paired up with either Keigo Atobe, Tezuka Kunimitsu and Shuusuke Fuji in fanfiction and doujinshi, people? Sakuno also verges on the trope, since she's often used as a PossessionSue by some fangirls.
** Also Ryoma, naturally due to being the main character and by far the prominent shota of the series.
* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: In New Prince of Tennis, half of the middleschoolers are eliminated from the U-17 Camp (among them there're Sanada, Niou, Inui, Kaidoh, Momoshiro, etc. and even Ryoma and Kintaro). You knew they would endure the TrainingFromHell and return to the Camp somehow!
* MagnificentBastard: Keigo Atobe. Genichirou Sanada. [[spoiler: Seiichi Yukimura.]] Arguably, Masaharu Nioh.
* MemeticMolester:
** From the anime, Professor Hanamura Aoi, from Jousei Shounan. She's creepily attached to her tennis team and is constantly fawning over them and Ryoma.
** Also Konjiki Koharu, who aside from doing gay jokes with his doubles partner Hitouji Yuuji, is constantly fawning over Kaidoh or other hot guys. In the Pair Puri omakes, he has been seen having crushes on [[AwesomeEgo Atobe]], [[TheStoic Tezuka]], Kamio, [[NiceGuy Saeki]] and [[HandsomeLech Sengoku]].
* MemeticSexGod: [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2014-02-04/prince-of-tennis-fuji-has-already-received-of-8000-valentine-chocolates Japanse fans sent 8,000 chocolates to Shusuke Fuji.]]
* MisaimedFandom: FanDumb. [[spoiler: An Tachibana]]'s actions during the Senbatsu arc ''were not supposed to be seen as "awesome" and "proper of a strong female character"''. They were supposed to be a part of AnAesop in regards to how [[spoiler: seeking violent resolution to a conflict '''is not worth it'''.]] Specially considering that [[spoiler: Kirihara could have ''died'' after that StaircaseTumble--and that '''almost everyone blamed Kamio for the incident'''!]] And that [[spoiler: An herself broke down crying in regret when Ryoma unmasked her and Kamio called her out!]]
* {{Moe}}: Sakuno and Tomoka, specially during the Jyousei Shounan anime arc.
* {{Narm}}: Atobe develops [[spoiler: X-Ray vision]] in ''Shinpuri''. [[FlatWhat LOLWAT.]]
** That's nothing when compared with [[spoiler: Inui's pathetically hilarious BandagedFace]] after his and Kaidou's doubles match with [[spoiler: Kirihara and Renji.]]
** Shishido's ImportantHaircut scene loses a good part of its awesome edge in the anime, due to how horribly OffModel the animation is.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBqBCMpn4ZE Tezuka's Tennis killed the dinosaurs!]]
* OneTrueThreesome: The fandom likes the idea of building an infamous [=OT5=] between Atobe, Fuji, Ryoma, Sanada and Tezuka to avoid ShipToShipCombat. There's also the Rikkai Troica variant where Sanada hooks up with ''both'' Yanagi and Yukimura...
* RootingForTheEmpire: Many fans actively bash Seigaku for being "[[GodModeSue too overpowered]]" or just less interesting than the rival teams. Often, merely because it's the team that [[CreatorsPet Echizen]] belongs to.
* RealWomenNeverWearDresses: The reason why some fans hail An as "the only decent female" and uses her to bash Sakuno and Tomoka. Ironically, An is [[TheFashionista the most fashion-oriented of the girls]]... and the only one wearing a ''long'', flowing sundress (see her outfit in the Rikkai arc).
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap:
** Sakuno's manga incarnation. Lots of people who don't stomach her in the anime adore her in the manga. Conversely, other people bash her YamatoNadeshiko manga self and call her a PuritySue or RelationshipSue, while saying that her ShrinkingViolet anime self is [[ThisLoserIsYou a more realistic portrayal of girls her age.]]
* RonTheDeathEater: While Ryoma can be a jerk sometimes, his anti-fans are rabid against him, especially when he's against [[EnsembleDarkhorse ATOBE]].
* TheScrappy: Aside of those hated for DieForOurShip? Tomoka, Horio, Echizen (though he's more of a CreatorsPet than anything), Jackal.
* ShipsThatPassInTheNight: Happens a lot in fanfiction, given that there are A LOT of pretty boys to pair up, even if they haven't have canon interactions. With that said, that didn't stop Konomi from making all those omakes...
** There're also other fans who ship the coaches Hanamura and Sakaki.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** Rikkai fans have been whining for several ''years'' about how the team was portrayed in the anime and about [[spoiler: ''The Switch'' between Yagyuu and Niou not being featured in their match]]. Lots of fans of the manga often say it of the original after the Hyoutei arc (the anime had caught up to the manga, changes started to be made).
** Subverted later, when the OVA's start covering the Nationals arc and get praise for portraying some rather... polemic manga scenes [[AdaptationExpansion in a much more understandable and sympathetic light.]] I.e., [[spoiler: Ryoma cutting Atobe's hair when he's still almost unconscious]] in the manga is switched to [[spoiler: Ryoma having second thoughts about it, Taki offering to have his own cut hair instead to spare Atobe the humiliation... and then Atobe swiping Ryoma's razor and willingly cutting his own hair.]] Or [[spoiler: the rendition of the Rikkai matches, which also include flashbacks of the Rikkai regulars anxiously waiting for Yukimura in the hospital, remarking on their TrueCompanions bond.]]
** The Film Adaptation does many of this:
*** Replacing Hiyoshi Wakashi with a [[CanonForeigner new character]], [[CardCarryingVillain Egate Mcleod Higaki]], who was a [[VillainSue villain]] GodModeSue, even ''better than Atobe''. On the same page, [[ShrinkingViolet Sakuno]] was replaced by Higaki Shion, who was Egate's ''CuteMute'' sister. Also the inverted AgeLift and AdaptationalAttractiveness of [[CoolOldLady coach]] [[TeamMom Ryuzaki Sumire]] (played here by Hitomi Shimatani), making her Nanjiro's ''kohai'' and [[DemotedToExtra demoting her role to the background]].
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: As WebVideo/YRulerOfTime points out on many ocations, the show presents more interesting characters that could have been better leads than [[DesignatedHero what we get with Seigaku]]:
** The Fudomine entire team, as they are a No-Name school with a group of underdogs and a new inspiring captain with a DarkAndTroubledPast.
** Yuuta's brother complex.
** Miyuki Chitose, being a tomboy girl with stage-fright trying to be the best at tennis.
** Kintaro's journey, who has an even more cheerful and interesting personality than [[DesignatedHero Ryoma]].
** Even from Seigaku itself fans are more interested in the other regulars' backstories or {{Character Development}}s than Ryoma.
* UnfortunateImplications:
** Because there's not a clear female lead, or all the female characters take a back seat to serve as cheerleaders, also makes the series cash on hormoned Fangirls by attracting them with a CastFullOfPrettyBoys.
** Also how Ryoma solves every conflict with the bully of the week, which also could imply that the best way to deal with bullies is by bullying them back if your tennis skills are superior.
** Even when the portrayal of Koharu being a DepravedHomosexual was intended to be a parody of the HoYay trope, it also seemed as a mock to homosexuals in general, not helped by Kaidoh and Momoshiro reacting more "homophobic" than creeped out.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic: The Tezuka/Fuji duel in the anime is chock-full of symbolism slipping dangerously into HoYay territory.
** Krauser's special technique... ''crucifies'' people.
* WhatTheHellCastingAgency:
** For the Tenimyus, most of the Seigaku 2nd Cast (except for Shirota Yuu, Aiba Hiroki, Kujirai Kosuke and Araki Hirofumi, who were good singers and actors) the others were ''horribly out of tune''. It was justified with Yanagi Kotaroh (Ryoma), because his voice was affected by his car accident, but still no excuse for the others. The one who got more criticism was Adachi Osamu as Kikumaru, since he didn't look like the character at all, even with the wig on.
** Even if the film adaptation did or not an AgeLift, it was an abuse of Suspension of Disbelief the casting of RIKIYA as Egate Mcleod Higaki. You can seriously reassure the guy looks 15-19? That's also applied for the cameos of the rivals, many Tenimyu actors.
