----
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** A police officer advising kids to not be black or Hispanic to avoid prison? Terrible. A ''[[BoomerangBigot black]]'' police officer advising kids to not be black or Hispanic to avoid prison? Hilarious.
** Two police officers [[spoiler: falling to their deaths]] wouldn't be so funny if it weren't for them actively choosing [[spoiler: to make that clearly fatal jump.]] Especially when it's set to ''My Hero'' by the Music/FooFighters.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Captain Gene Mauch has a lot of fans thanks to his hilarious banter with the main characters, made all the better by Creator/MichaelKeaton's performance. Some will go so far as to say his pitch-perfect comedic timing steals the show.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Creator/WillFerrell is a software expert and TheSmartGuy of the pair; in his next movie, he's WesternAnimation/{{Megamind}}.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5JAPkvnyso This clip]] from the Oscars a few years back, when Will Ferrell addresses Mark Wahlberg.
** Mark Wahlberg as a police officer Dignam in ''Film/TheDeparted'' says "I'm the guy who does his job, you must be the other guy".
** In 2014, Mark Wahlberg congratulated Derek Jeter for his career. One can only wonder if he apologized for shooting him too. (In the unrated version, Terry does indeed apologize to Derek Jeter for shooting him, and they work it out.)
** Ershon says that he believes a story should start at the end, then move to the beginning, and eventually move back to the end. This is the same narrative pattern of WesternAnimation/{{Megamind}}.
** In an alternate scene, Michael Keaton says, "Please. [[Film/SpidermanHomecoming Stop talking about your near-death experience on the Staten Island Ferry, okay?"]]
* JustHereForGodzilla:
** [[spoiler:Admit it, some of you watched it for the scene where the Rock and Samuel L. Jackson leap off of a building and die, didn't you?]]
** Others just wanted to see Derek Jeter get shot.
* MemeticMutation:
** Desk pop is used in many circles for a negligent discharge of a firearm.
** Many New York Yankees fans took to calling Derek Jeter a "bi-racial angel" after this film came out. After he retired, they passed the moniker onto outfielder Aaron Judge.
** A lot of the one-liners about Gamble's college career as Gator, especially:
--->'''Hoitz''': You can't have a conscience in the pimp game!
** Aim for the bushes
** "I am a peacock! You gotta let me fly!", particularly after the Saint Peter's University Peacocks had their Cinderella run in the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
* OneSceneWonder:
** Derek Jeter AsHimself getting shot. In the unrated version he gets one more scene where he reveals he's been working his own investigation and Terry was set up to shoot him.
** Dirty Mike and the Boys who show up hoping to have another "screw party" in Allen's car. Bonus points for Dirty Mike being played by Adam [=McKay=] himself.
** Sheila's poor mother who’s roped into sharing ridiculously personal and over the top messages between Sheila and Allen.
--->'''Sheila's mom''': It involves a mannequin’s hand, and an electric shaver?!? ON A GOLF CLUB!?!
** The utterly insane Hal and Cristineth.
* SignatureScene: The Rock and Sam Jackson "aiming for the bushes".
* StrawmanHasAPoint: Danson and Highsmith's EstablishingCharacterMoment is supposed to be a deconstruction of the CowboyCop because one of the reporters notes the drugs they had in possession was only a small amount of marijuana. However, the dealers were also carrying military-grade weaponry, which is highly illegal in New York City. This makes their antics come across as a lot more justified.
* TheWoobie: Captain Gene by sheer virtue of putting up with our main heroes' bullshit. And unlike the usual [[DaChief angry police captain]], Gene's actually a pretty NiceGuy and ReasonableAuthorityFigure, which just makes [[OnlySaneMan him dealing with his insane coworkers]] even more sympathetic.
