* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: [[https://youtu.be/DWnmzagelp8?t=74 "Balada Triste de Trompeta"]]
** [[https://youtu.be/zra0Zv_oYcQ "Corazon Contento"]]
** The Pino Donaggio/Creator/DannyElfman-esque score by Roque Baños is also solid, particularly the [[https://youtu.be/ey5wMUAKEcA Main Titles]], [[https://youtu.be/IW8gHsA7Acs "Fighting for her love"]] and [[https://youtu.be/sAQe7eTC8Y0 "Final Tragedy"]]
* CrossesTheLineTwice: It opens with a clown in drag slaughtering a Francoist army with a machete, and by the end of the film you'll look back at that as being ''normal'' compared to the madness that follows.
* HilariousInHindsight: The vet's paranoid wife, Dolores, tries to convince her husband to listen to her foreseeing warnings because "I'm a witch". Three years later her actress Terele Pávez would go on to play one of the main BigBad witches in ''Film/WitchingAndBitching'', also directed by Álex de la Iglesia.
* JerkassWoobie: Both [[AlasPoorVillain Javier and Sergio by the end of the film]].
* MoralEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Sergio becomes a full monster after his disfigurement. And he wasn't a nice guy to begin with.]]
** Also [[spoiler: Javier when he does said disfiguring. At that point, it's all downhill into eventual insanity.]]
* SpecialEffectsFailure: The CGI used for the reconstruction of Luis Carrero Blanco's death (who got [[RealityIsUnrealistic literally blown up sky-high in his car]]) and the Valle de los Caídos monument during the climax is rather iffy.
* SpiritualAdaptation: A deranged MonsterClown protagonist armed to the teeth who drives around on an [[BadHumorTruck ice cream truck]]? Javier's character makes for a spiritual adaptation of Needles Kane from ''VideoGame/TwistedMetal''.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: A very, ''very'' dark comedy with less comedy and more morbidity that follows a pair of {{Monster Clown}}s who undergo grotesque physical mutilations and SanitySlippage before going on a murderous rampage all for a woman they both loved.
