* AngstWhatAngst: Kili's life has been turned upside down at ''least'' four times that we know of -- by [[spoiler:the King of Dust]] as a child, by [[spoiler:the destruction of his hometown]] as a teenager, by the GenderBender at the start of the story, and by [[spoiler:becoming a werewolf]] not long after that -- and every time it was involuntary and unwanted. But you would be hard-pressed to know that from meeting her, because she has made it her job to know how to deal with bad fortune. [[TheShrink Literally.]]
* GrowingTheBeard: The strip began as a GenderBender-centered one-shot for the predecessor of [[Webcomic/TheWotch 910CMX]], and the apparent hasty writing of the first half of the first chapter reflects this. As the author begins fleshing out the world, the comic gets much more interesting. By [[http://dragondoctors.dhscomix.com/archives/comic/ch-7-page-1-last-victim Chapter 7]], even [[ApologisesALot the author]] is willing to admit to having hit his stride.
* HarsherInHindsight: [[http://dragondoctors.dhscomix.com/archives/comic/ch-3-page-11 When Aki is talking to Goro after having yelled at her for being unsympathetic to Tanica's plight,]] she says Goro was just being realistic to take the cynic's view of Tanica's desire to stay at the Dragon Doctors' headquarters instead of being moved into police custody, and says, "One of these days I'm going to pay for being so naive." Not only is Aki's willingness to befriend Tanica [[http://dragondoctors.dhscomix.com/archives/comic/ch-9-page-52 one of the major factors]] in Tanica's eventual HeelFaceTurn, not only is Goro's cynicism [[http://dragondoctors.dhscomix.com/archives/comic/ch-13-page-17 what put her in Smith's way when Smith returned to kill the Dragon Doctors]] and [[http://dragondoctors.dhscomix.com/archives/comic/ch-13-page-19 led to Goro almost dying]], Goro survives [[http://dragondoctors.dhscomix.com/archives/comic/ch-13-page-28 thanks to Tanica]] -- via ''HeroicSacrifice'', [[http://dragondoctors.dhscomix.com/archives/comic/ch-13-page-31 no less.]] Aki's RousseauWasRight attitude may be naive, but in this case it proves to be ''more'' realistic than Goro's mistrust.
* ViewerGenderConfusion: Kittyhawk apparently thought that Mori was a large woman, even though being turned into a man early on is a plot point, at which time Mori's shirt breaks open. (This being well before she was turned into a large woman.)
