* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: A given for a Creator/WesAnderson film. Most of the background music is from Creator/SatyajitRay, so it does a great job at setting the mood.
* BestKnownForTheFanservice: Creator/NataliePortman shot her first nude scene for the companion piece to this film, ''Hotel Chevalier''. She was so disappointed that "half of every review" was about the nudity that she didn't do any more nude scenes until 2016's ''Planetarium''.
* FridgeBrilliance: Why is Peter constantly rubbing his temples with a splitting headache? Well, as Francis reveals, the sunglasses he's wearing throughout the movie used to belong to their father, and still have his prescription lenses in them, something which leads to headaches and eye strain.
* NauseaFuel: When Francis finally takes off his bandages and we see that none of his wounds have healed yet. Anyone watching the film in HD would also have seen all the pus that had built up.
* NightmareFuel: The scene where [[spoiler:several kids fall into a river can be utterly horrifying to witness. Especially given that, in spite of the brother's best efforts, one of the kids ended up ''[[DeathOfAChild dying]]'' thanks to this incident (and in a rather realistic fashion too, as he died due to being smashed into rocks) and we actually get to see the ''kid's corpse''. To those who have children themselves, the scene is basically one big source of ParanoiaFuel.]]
* SoOkayItsAverage: While the film is not regarded as bad, it tends to be viewed as one of Wes Anderson's weaker films amongst critics and fans. It's a very pretty looking film that has enough of Wes Anderson's trademark quirky writing and style to remain an enjoyable watch. However, it is held back by a disjointed and loose narrative, weak humor and the brothers not being all that well developed.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic: The three brothers leaving behind their father's baggage to catch the train.
-->'''Francis:''' I guess I still got some healing to do.
