* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** "The Greatest Pinch in History" begins a ''marked'' contrast to the kiddy, pre-Serious music. It generally sounds like 'the base is exploding and we need to get out NOW' music.
** "Ichigeki-Hissatsu!" ("One-hit Sure-kill"), but it's difficult to find isolated so [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb9fqpoouEo here's a scene where it gets used properly]].
* BrokenBase: While it was the most popular entry among younger viewers (at least during its initial airing), the reactions of older SuperRobotGenre fans were... mixed, to say the least. A good part of the show's humor relies on an understanding of Japanese pop culture in the [=90s=], which doesn't help matters, and most of the show used to be unsubbed on top of that[[note]]/m/ Subs eventually finished it, but even then, there's still no general consensus on the quality[[/note]]. In the new century it tends to be ''very'' forgotten (being pointedly ignored by ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars''), making the debate, when it comes up, still fiercer.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Captain Shark. Even those who hate the show can't get enough of him, [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot for obvious reasons]].
** Walter Walzac. The guy's just so endearing in his failure to go against the Legendra Braves you can't help but love him. His HeelFaceTurn also makes for one of the biggest Moments of Awesome the show has.
* HeAlsoDid: Shinji Takamatsu also directed the AnimatedAdaptation of ''Manga/{{Gintama}}'', which resulted in the retroactive recognition of ''Goldran'', formerly the collective [[TheScrappy black sheep]] of the ''[[Anime/BraveSeries Yuusha]]'' franchise, as a funny show that showcased his comedic talent to its' fullest. The subs also helped things.
* JerkassWoobie: Serious Walzac. It is heavily implied that his mother is dead, and his father is a ruthless bastard who's willing to kill his own children if they don't live up to his expectations. His only real friend is his dog Layzer. And guess what. [[DeusAngstMachina It]] [[HeroicSacrifice dies.]] At the same time, Walter makes it very clear that he loves and respects Serious beyond any professional obligations, so it takes a while for the 'woobie' part to become clear. Fortunately for everyone's souls, the show ends on a happy note in Serious's book; not only is he saved by his brother, he rekindles his relationship with him and even joins in his hammy pirate routine. And for good measure, he gets reunited with his beloved pet as the team disembarks.
** Walter Walzac is this for comical reasons, as he suffers [[TheChewToy variable misfortune]] as a result of the actions from the kids, the Braves, his butler and even ''his fiancée''. [[RootingForTheEmpire It practically makes the viewer want to cheer for him]] just as much as they're amused by this.
