!!The comic book
* GrowingTheBeard: Initially, Superlopez was a ShallowParody of American superheroes, and it became an Adventure/Comedy series later on.

!!The film adaptation
* CriticalDissonance: Critics liked it, deeming it a competent comedy film with some great special effects (which earned it a MediaNotes/GoyaAward on this field), but casual viewers were less thrilled, especially due to Rovira's casting and performance, and fans of the comics in particular found it a rather mediocre adaptation. It was still a box office success, though.
* QuestionableCasting: The casting of polarizing comedian Dani Rovira as the title character was equally divisive.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Many reviews noted that, while entertaining as a comedy, the film just didn't try very hard to be a good adaptation of ''Superlópez'', giving rather the impression that the filmmakers couldn't see beyond the most superficial aspects of the comics. The most cited complaint was that the entire film is more or less a parody of ''Film/ManOfSteel'' despite the fact that the comics have never really hinged on their Superman references (those amount to Superlópez's character premise and just that), but they also lamented the absence of most secondary characters, the insertion of a LoveTriangle that wasn't in the comics, and the usage of a generic kind of humor instead of the original's ''costumbrismo''.
