* AmericansHateTingle: Sort of. Vanilla isn't as popular as Chocolat with some Western fans.
** The manga itself seems to be this in America, as it got fairly positive reviews yet allegedly sold very poorly.
* {{Anvilicious}}: Remember girls, NoGuyWantsAnAmazon! Later chapters got better about this, but ''wow''.
* AwesomeArt: The manga has gorgeous and very detailed art.
* BaseBreaker: Vanilla after [[spoiler: she becomes the Ogre Princess.]] And over whether or not she was EasilyForgiven.
** And there are fans who just don't think she's as interesting as Chocolat.
* BrokenBase: The series' social commentary about love and femininity is seen as either thought-provoking and adding depth to the story or clumsily written, full of UnfortunateImplications, and making it incomprehensible to non-Japanese audiences.
** Should [[spoiler:Chocolat or Vanilla have won in the end?]]
* DesignatedHero: Though the protagonists are certainly not as villainous as the Ogres, their habit of harvesting human emotions for energy sounds like an evil plot straight out of ''Anime/SailorMoon'', though it doesn't seem to harm them.
* EvilIsSexy: Well, sexi''er'' anyway. [[spoiler: After becoming the Ogre Princess, Vanilla sports an elegant evening gown when transformed into witch mode.]]
* FridgeBrilliance: It makes perfect sense for the girls to go to Japan for the MagicalGirlQueenlinessTest - Chocolat's tough and tomboyish personality means that she would have an unfair advantage over Vanilla in any country where NoGuyWantsAnAmazon is not in effect.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: This anime is HUGE in Italy. Seriously, just look at how many Italian videos there are on Youtube.
* GrowingTheBeard: A little less than halfway through the series, when it stops being "how to get boys to like you" and becomes a more straightforward magical adventure.
* HoYay: Between Chocolat and Vanilla, expectedly.
* IdiotPlot: [[spoiler: Vanilla becoming the Ogre Princess.]]
* {{Moe}}: Vanilla has a ton of moe points, which is a big part of why she's so popular with the boys.
** Chocolat can occasionally be this, especially if you like tsunderes.
* {{Narm}}: The fact that most of the cast is elementary school aged makes most of the morals/messages about love fall into this.
* PuritySue: Vanilla can come across as this sometimes.
* TheScrappy: Waffle
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: The theme song was meant to sound like Serge Gainsbourg's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp93flpMav0 "Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son"]] (Wax Doll, Sound Doll), made famous by France Gall when she sung it at the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest and won.
* UnfortunateImplications: Boys only like ''one'' type of girl, and NoGuyWantsAnAmazon, ever.
** A chapter in the manga had the AccidentalAesop that "crying a lot will make boys like you!"
*** Hell, in episode 2 we get the horrible lesson that the best way to get boys to like you is to ''intentionally hurt yourself''.
** Vanilla (at least in the early chapters) is a weak, spineless crybaby. She's also played up as the human world's ideal girl.
* ValuesDissonance: A lot of fans in the west (where tomboyish girls are seen as more desirable) don't see anything wrong with Chocolat's behavior early in the manga, and think she's treated way too harshly. This may be the reason why it never really took off outside Japan.
* TheWoobie: Both Chocolat and Vanilla can be this.
