* {{Anvilicious}}: If Crichton's other [[AuthorFilibuster filibusters]] fly over your head, the ending's about as subtle as Man-Bear-Pig tackling you, in which the [[spoiler:not very dead guy who appeared to be supporting the ELF]] more or less says "Focus on the third-world countries that are often the biggest offenders in polluting by tackling poverty, then you can work on climate change." Oh, he ''hates'' simulations, despite covering it with ''Literature/JurassicPark''. Simulations won't predict [[spoiler: tsunamis ruining your shit or car crashes.]]
* HarsherInHindsight: "[[{{Scandalgate}} Climategate and glaciergate]]" (the claims that the graphs popularly used to calculate and predict the effects of GlobalWarming were [[BasedOnAGreatBigLie allegedly miscalculated]]) add up a curious wrinkle to the book's premise of global warming being a hoax. The book's general theme, in general, has grown rather dark in the modern day as global warming brings increasingly more catastrophic consequences and the book's claims read much more as malicious and harmful denialism than they were when it was written.
