* BlackSheepHit: "It's Been Awhile", "So Far Away", and "Right Here".
* BrokenBase: Some people are fans of their radio hits, some people prefer their softer songs, others are fans of their heavier material who don't like their softer stuff.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Mike Mushok. The man was a student of Tony [=MacAlpine=], and on the occasions where he's been able to cut loose, it definitely shows. Even people who don't like Staind will almost unanimously acknowledge that he is an excellent guitarist.
* NeverLiveItDown: Aaron Lewis's infamous "I don't speak Spanish" tirade at a concert in ''[[{{Irony}} Texas of all places]]'', combined with his controversial political views and on-stage antics, are some of the reasons why he (and Staind) are loathed.
* NightmareFuel: "Funeral", which plays exactly 8 minutes after "Four Walls". Unnerving atmosphere, the creepy organ, the haunting preacher that speaks (all while fitting the tone of [[spoiler: the suicide after "Four Walls"]]) makes it chilling, especially after it kicks in if you're listening to the original, lengthier version of "Four Walls".
* {{Wangst}}: A major criticism of most of their songs, as they tend to be overly whiny and depressing.
