* AngstWhatAngst:
** Mario seems to be more upset that Luigi died in Season 2, as it was a motive for him gathering his friends to kill Sonic, but in [[spoiler:Season 6, he was only very mildly annoyed when Soniqua spits fire at Luigi. However, this may be because Mario still had the Epoch and knew he could simply travel back in time to save him again.]]
** Lucca doesn't seem upset [[spoiler:when her Epoch is destroyed in the near-ending of Season 6, and lets Tails and his friends borrow the other time machines with no problem]].
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The series' 16-bit rendition of many real-life songs such as "[[Music/{{Blur}} Song 2]]", "[[Music/{{PSY}} Gangnam Style]]", "[[Music/{{Whitesnake}} Here I Go Again]]", "[[Film/Scarface1983 Push It to the Limit]]", and "[[Film/TheKarateKid1984 You're the Best]]".
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Thunderhead. Is he a genuinely funny character with really clever {{Non Sequitur}}s, or is his ExtremeOmnisexual nature [[{{Squick}} too much]] even for ''this'' show?
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The ending of "TMNT" has [[Creator/MichaelBay Michael "Awesome" Bay]] show up out of nowhere to declare he will make his own "[[Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2014 awesome alien version]]" of the eponymous ninja turtles, only to be killed by Eggman. Beyond being a TakeThat moment, the scene is never alluded to again afterwards.
* CatharsisFactor: Those who ''hated'' how [[spoiler: Tails acted in Season 4]] find it extremely satisfying that he's now the biggest ButtMonkey of Season 5 and eventually losing all his riches in Season 6.
* ContinuityLockout: Despite the short run time of each episode and overall emphasis on comedy, the series was surprisingly tight with its continuity. Many episodes were continuations of previous ones, to the point where missing so much as one episode would run the risk of being confused regarding the current story. Even Season 1, which was largely standalone, still requires viewing since later episodes would make references to events that took place during then.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: Much of the humor in this series falls under this. For example, [[spoiler:Tails]] bullies Sonic constantly throughout Season 4, but he sends in a freaking bomb to him for no reason at all. It probably wouldn't be funny if it wasn't for Sonic's [[MajorInjuryUnderreaction passive aggressive remark]] after getting blown up.
-->'''Sonic:''' That's [[spoiler:Tails]] folks! ''(IrisOut, before immediately going back to an annoyed Sonic)'' Seriously, what a fucking asshole, now I gotta go to the hospital.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Soniqua, due how hilariously bizarre she is in spite of being AxCrazy.
** Many were disappointed that Frank the Space Worm ended up getting killed off by his second appearance, despite having an ''extremely'' small amount of screentime.
** Bomberman is also very popular due to being a genuine NiceGuy that treats Sonic with such kindness. At lot of people were happy that Sonic was finally [[ThrowTheDogABone given a chance to have a best friend]] but was quickly [[YankTheDogsChain yanked away]] when Bomberman was killed by Soniqua.
** Link for his over-the-top CampGay personality, funny lines, and his constant messing with Tails (especially after watching Season 4).
* GeniusBonus: More like "Nerd Bonus" but it still counts; Sonic went broke after Tails invested his money in Dreamcast stock. Dreamcast was SEGA's last home console and had a rather short lifespan (only lasting less than 3 years, when most consoles last 4 or more). No wonder Sonic ended up losing all his money afterwards.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Sonic jumping from game to game trying to find a job there seems like a fun concept... funnier that a [[WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph Disney movie came out about two years after the series was first created]] also involved going into new games and trying to find a new "job" in them. In short, Sonic has basically gone ''hardcore'' Turbo.
*** And some of games Sonic has met include ''VideoGame/PaperBoy'', ''Franchise/StreetFighter'', ''VideoGame/BurgerTime'', ''VideoGame/QBert'', ''VideoGame/DigDug'', ''VideoGame/{{PacMan}}'', ''Franchise/MortalKombat'', ''VideoGame/{{Tapper}}'', ''VideoGame/SpaceInvaders'', ''VideoGame/{{Joust}}'' and ''VideoGame/{{Asteroids}}''. Most, if not all of which were featured in said movie.
** One of the alternate timelines Sonic ends up creating when messing with the Epoch is one where his series has completely fallen into obscurity while VideoGame/CrashBandicoot retained his insane popularity from the late 1990s into the present day and was considered one of the top gaming icons. This episode was released when Crash's series was at its lowest point and was in very real danger of becoming completely forgotten while Sonic's was trending upward due to some popular releases. Flash forward a couple years and Crash Bandicoot had an extremely successful revival which rocketed the series back to the top while Sonic's series was once again on the decline.
** The Starcraft episode focuses on Zerg assimilating DNA, which is something that is known in the backstory. Come ''VideoGame/StarcraftIIHeartOfTheSwarm'', where you get to see this DNA assimilation in action... although the Zerg have to kill to assimilate the DNA [[spoiler: as Eggman didn't die]].
** The episode before the season 6 finale had someone comment that Jim [[spoiler:in the form of Yoshi]] would eat [[spoiler:baby Eggman]] and only to hatch him out again. Needless to say, that's exactly what happens in "This Can't Be Good".
** The ''VideoGame/DuckHunt'' Dog was shown to be an aggressive fighter and, after being placed under the ownership of Soniqua, began battling Franchise/{{Pokemon}}. Come to the fourth ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' game, a crossover between numerous video game franchises including ''Pokemon'', the Duck Hunt dog is revealed as a character.
** There was an episode involving Sonic in ''Tetris''. Come 2014, and we have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd_9fr5MNO0 Tetris hack for Sonic 1]]
** The crossover between ''Sonic for Hire'' and ''WebAnimation/MegaManDiesAtTheEnd'' becomes funnier when you realize it actually predates the ''Creator/ArchieComics'' [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide crossover]] of ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics'' and ''ComicBook/MegaManArchieComics'' by over a year.
** In the episode featuring the Avengers, Mario and the other Avengers were annoyed with Black Widow's posing, which was exaggerated as twerking - with Iron Man even calling her useless. Come the [[Film/BlackWidow2021 Black Widow]] movie, and her adoptive sister Yelena is shown mocking Natasha over her infamous fighting poses.
** In Season 7, vampires are called "so fucking lame", and Eggman defends them by saying "You've seen [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Edward's]] abs, right?", then when he and Sonic come across [[Franchise/{{Castlevania}} Dracula]], the latter calls him {{ComicBook/Batman}}. Come 2022, and Creator/RobertPattinson [[Film/TheBatman2022 would star as the titular vigilante himself]].
* IKnewIt: Some people predicted that Princess Potato's appearance as president in Season 6 via time traveling [[spoiler:would also mean that Mario would be back for revenge]].
* ItsShortSoItSucks: A common complaint about the series is how short the episodes are, as most of them range from 2-to-3 minutes. This actually got acknowledged somewhat by Sonic in TheStinger to one particular episode.
-->'''Sonic:''' Okay, I know this episode was short but I might die next week! Doesn't that mean anything to you guys?! Jerks!
** This is the biggest complaint for season 8. Despite the longer run time for each episode, there are only eight episodes instead of the standard thirteen. This caused the overall flow of the season's plot to be both short and ''slow'' due to how the first half of the story where Sonic and co. make a game gets completely derailed and never mentioned again once Eggman's daugher comes into play. It also doesn't help that unlike other seasons, the gang rarely explores other video game worlds; mainly venturing in only VideoGame/SonicMania and VideoGame/IceClimbers.
* JerkassWoobie: Sonic. Sure, he's a self-centered dickweed but considering he tends to get screwed over quite a lot, it's not hard to feel bad for him after a while. Taken up to eleven in season 4, where [[spoiler:Tails]] practically ruins Sonic's life by blowing up all his money and bullies him constantly. It's also said in the first episode that Tails knew Sonic would lose all his money in Dreamcast and gave him the stock tip in the first place.
--> '''Tails:''' Let's not get into all the details about who purposely screwed who out of all their money.
* JerksAreWorseThanVillains: The series features Mario as a mob boss, Kirby as an AxCrazy psychopath that loves murder, and Sonic as a VillainProtagonist. But [[spoiler:Tails]] is the one who gets the most hate from fans for his actions in Season 4: throwing drinks at people's faces, pissing on Sonic, and just acting like a total douchebag. Even Sonic, who tried to [[spoiler:blow up a movie theater with dozens of people inside just to kill Tails]] in the ''same season'', isn't hated as much.
* LoveToHate: [[VillainProtagonist Sonic himself]]. Even on his best days, [[{{Jerkass}} he's a total asshole]]. But he's certainly an enjoyable asshole.
%%* MemeticMutation: [[HookersAndBlow Coke on Tits!]]
* SeasonalRot:
** Some have viewed Season 4 as this, with the KafkaComedy being cranked up to the point that the antics Sonic gets into feel more depressing than funny. Most of this can be attributed to [[spoiler:the change in personality for Tails]], who takes absolute ''glee'' in making Sonic's life a living hell.
** Season 6, albeit to a lesser extent. While still having fans, many others felt the season's storyline was too aimless, surprisingly convoluted, and dragged on for quite a bit. Though Season 6 has since been [[VindicatedByHistory vindicated after the season compilation was released]], letting the whole story flow much better.
** Even-numbered seasons starting with the fourth seem to have [[StarTrekMovieCurse this effect]], as Season 8 also garnered a bit of a mixed response. The meta humor seen in this season is touted as being a little ''too'' upfront and obvious compared to previous ones, the ToiletHumour has seen its all-time high since Season 1, and unlike Season 7, the story doesn't see much of a satisfying payout.
* StarTrekMovieCurse: While Seasons 1 and 2 don't count in this regard, it seems to be a trend that starting with Season 3, odd-numbered seasons (3, 5, and 7) are seen as high-quality material for the series, while even-numbered seasons (4, 6, and 8) are riddled with material that [[SeasonalRot the fans don't like]].
* TakeThatScrappy: Most of Season 5 is basically a huge one for [[spoiler:Tails after his [[TookALevelInJerkass attitude]] in the previous season. The first episode has Sonic punching him several times, neither Peppy nor Slippy have heard of Cash Explosion, and when he assumes that he'll be taking charge of the Star Fox; Peppy outright says no and picks Sonic instead. The next episode takes it further by making Tails being attacked by a number of [[Franchise/{{Alien}} Facehuggers]], ending with a Chestburster coming out of him. And later on in the Starcraft episode, they all leave him holding up a wall while the rest of the gang and a group of Eggman-mutated Zerg have a party. When Sonic and Tails meet the writers of the show in season 7, even Tails shows to have [[IHatePastMe disliked how he was]] as he tells the writers not to portray him like that again]].
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Not too many people were happy when the series was moved from Machinima to the Happy Hour Channel, which resulted in a slight decline in viewership.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Some people were a little disappointed that "Eggette", Eggman's daughter, was simply just a "Can't Unsee This" of Eggman and not one of [[VideoGame/ChronoTrigger Lucca's children]] grown up, although that particular timeline could have been written out after the [[spoiler:reset button was pressed at the end of Season 6]].
* UglyCute: Soniqua is weird and grotesque looking, but you can't help but find her adorable somehow.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: Several jokes thrown throughout the earlier season can come off as very dated. One specific example is the ''Angry Birds'' one, which pokes fun at the app's enormous popularity at the time (Summer 2011).
* UnpopularPopularCharacter:
** Sonic rightfully incurs quite a bit of hate throughout the series for being an [[{{Jerkass}} enormous douchebag]] with [[VillainProtagonist seemingly no moral compass]]. The shows' fans are far more receptive to him.
** Eggman also counts. His combination of [[{{Jerkass}} dickish qualities]] and overall grotesque nature alienate most around him, but he's arguably the series' biggest fan favorite.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: Despite the high volume of uncensored profanity, bloody violence, and references to sex and drugs, [=YouTube=] originally rated the series TV-PG.
