** The motivation of the conspiracy to kill Kirkland contains a pretty large PlotHole. They wanted to kill him to stop him from preventing the missile defense system from being adopted... but he only just learned that the results from the test of the system were faked and it didn't actually work (or in the best case, didn't work as well as the conspiracy claimed) moments before his death. So... why did the conspiracy have a plan already in motion to kill him, again? The audience can perhaps deduce that Kirkland intended to oppose adopting the system no matter what happened with the tests (although Kirkland's anger at the deception when Costello present the evidence doesn't seem to match up to that), or that Kirkland had put it on hold just due to the word of anonymous tip that something was wrong with the test, which seems... unlikely. Furthermore none of this is said, just left to the audience to infer on their own. Even director Creator/BrianDePalma said while commenting on the movie that this is an issue with the film, and thinking too much about that aspect undermines the enjoyment.
** Even with Dunne, who is a major player in the conspiracy and a MoleInCharge of Kirkland's security, the idea that a member of the U.S Cabinet would be sitting among the common seats right in the open during a major sports event while having a practically nonexistent security detail strains credulity, as does the fact that strangers like Costello are able to walk right up to him without any issues. But the plot couldn't happen otherwise, or at least, it couldn't happen and still be as stylish as it is.
* {{Narm}}: Dunne shooting himself through the chest with his back turned towards the camera has to be the funniest looking suicides in movie history. It was [[FocusGroupEnding hastily added on]] due to test audiences didn't like the original ending.
