* {{Anvilicious}}: Willis doesn't tend to be very subtle about his points.
** DontShootTheMessage: The messages and morals aren't bad, moreover they just seem delivered in a poor manner.
* BrokenBase: Amber/Mike. One third thinks they work together, one third thinks someone's emotionally abusing someone[[note]]And given Amber starting the relationship with blackmail and Mike...being Mike, this group is split as well[[/note]] or that they're just plain not right for each other, and one third thinks Mike's just waiting for the right moment to give Amber maximum suffering.
** Ethan's collecting habit. Many in-depth discussions (read: arguements) were had over whether Drew is right and it's a harmful addiction, or whether it's an innocent hobby and Drew is being unreasonable.
** And he's gotten some flak (he even ''tagged'' it as "[[GenreSavvy things that will get me in trouble]]") for [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1919 making fun]] of a ''Zen Pencils'' strip that [[http://zenpencils.com/comic/128-bill-watterson-a-cartoonists-advice/ was done in]] the ''CalvinAndHobbes'' fashion.
** Then there's the backlash concerning his stopping the comic to use a character as a mouthpiece to chastise the readers who were confused about the function of certain part of a dildo in a previous comic of ''Webcomic/DumbingOfAge''. It's not so much the fact that the comic attempted to educate readers on the topic as it is [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=2086 the amount of condescension and calling them 12-year-olds for not knowing something that not all of them found useful]] (in-character or not).
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Fuckface the iguana, despite simply sitting around with one facial expression. (This is usually in contrast to Malaya, who is [[TheScrappy less popular]].)
** Arnold, one of Ken & Malaya's roommates, also gets a bit of this. His appearances in two strips -- telling Malaya to get a job in the first and telling Ken to "stop barking up the bitch tree" in the second -- were enough to make him far more popular than either of them.
** Faz and Ninja Rick, because they're both absolutely [[CrowningMomentOfFunny hilarious]].
** Lucy is VERY quickly being embraced by the fans, both for her stance on superheroines and her chewing out of [[TheScrappy Malaya]].
* FunnyAneurysmMoment:
** Panel 6 of [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=817 this strip]]. Even though it's just a joke, it makes anyone who has the later strips cringe.
** The punchline in the last panel of [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=41this strip]] was made long before we found out about Amber's past.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** When Robin is elected to Congress, she insists on wearing her sombrero while in session. Fast forward to November 2010, and [[http://www.mediaite.com/tv/the-economy-can-wait-florida-democrats-first-mission-hats-in-congress/ Frederica Wilson]].
** In April of 2006, a [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=225 strip called Bingo was released]], which was about Ethan showing a Internet argument-losing bingo featuring overused and ilogical internet arguments, and one of these arguments was "Claiming to represent the fandom as a whole". Then, five years later, in December 2, which strip was released? The [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1556 False Equivalence]] strip. Whoops.
** In an [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=272 early strip]] Ethan discusses re-run syndrome, and wonders which of the cast would stick around. Robin states it will obviously be her, but the strip suggests Ninja Rick. Cut to 2014, and Ethan and Amber have left Shortpacked, while Ninja Rick has faded into the background. Guess Robin was right.
* InternetBackdraft: Mike and Amber's relationship, between those who think that if he didn't really want it (whether because it's the relationship itself he wants or because he's setting her up for a fall) there's no way she'd be able to keep a hold on him or that he's such a bastard that he deserves whatever he gets, and those who see Amber as using blackmail to rape him and think that she crossed the MoralEventHorizon when she forced him to start dating her and keeps going further over it the longer she keeps it up. [[LoveConfession Later events]] have not helped.
** Any strip dealing with real life behaviors, be they stupid toy arguments or social issues, will inevitably get a hostile reaction from people insisting that the situation described is either nonexistent or a non-issue and accusing Willis of somehow forcing his opinions on others.
* MagnificentBastard: Mike's [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1499 proposal]] to Amber.
** Mike IS this trope. He's capable of planning and executing extremely convoluted plans for the sole reason of pissing someone off and despite that most of the cast considers him a friend, with Amber and Ethan even up to a point of becoming a subject of desire. In fact, the above example is the only time his plan ends up not having the effect he expected, and even then due to actually trying to achieve something he thinks is [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy good for her]].
* MemeticMutation: Though it's not from the "main" storyline: "[[BatmanCanBreatheInSpace I'm Batman]] [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=7 and I can breathe in space.]]"
** "[[FrankMiller whoreswhores]][[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=183 whores]]". So pervasive is this meme that as soon as the Miller-directed ''The Spirit'' teaser trailer came out, most of the comments on [=YouTube=] were along the lines of "whores". The teaser didn't feature any actual whorelike behavior, but the actual trailer did. By then everyone had used up all their ammo.
** ''[[DeusAngstMachina Funky Cancercancer]]'' has become the accepted FanNickname for ''FunkyWinkerbean'' following the [[http://shortpacked.com/comic/book-5/01-a-talking-car-joins-the-cast/cancer/ parody strip]].
** [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=985 "For your information, Mike and I pound each other every night in the most epic of hatefucks."]] The line [[http://www.blanklabelcomics.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=10808 started a meme]] in which people would take panels from other comics and edit it in to see if it worked. Willis claimed in his blog that the Roadblock one was his favorite.
** [[ComicBook/RedHoodAndTheOutlaws "I'm bored.]] [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1513 Show me your penis."]]
** A meta one. Whenever something happens in the comics that the fans don't like, they ''will'' post "DAMN YOU WILLIS!" in response. Became pervasive enough that Willis' Twitter account is named "damnyouwillis".
* OneSceneWonder: Buckets of Blood guy, a hilariously OTT parody of fans who want a DarkerAndEdgier, BloodierAndGorier, and HotterAndSexier upgrade to various franchises. He's gone on a few [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=63 graphic]] [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=891 lurid]] and [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1358 disturbing]] rants about how franchises need more "adult" content. [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=2077 He later got to write Future's End]]. He's only sparingly used, but when he does appear be prepared for a look into the mind of a rambling, drooling, serial killer (according to Ultra Car).
* TheScrappy: Malaya for some. Some find her grating and annoying and hate her constant bitching while contributing nothing. The fact that she was created as the result of a fan's bitching doesn't help matters.
** It really says something when her pet iguana, Fuckface, is a [[EnsembleDarkhorse vastly more popular character]] despite doing nothing but sitting around with the same facial expression.
*** TakeThatScrappy: [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1736 Lucy doesn't take Malaya's shit.]]
** Roz also had this, with many of her appearances (Especially when she interacts with Jacob) causing fans to leave many negative comments for her.
** Drew became this for treating Ethan's toy collecting as something more than a harmless hobby.
** Ken falls under this for some for being a flat-character whose main plot has come to revolve around being a DoggedNiceGuy for Malaya, who is actively disinterested in him. [[LovingAShadow His blindness to her faults and the largely superficial basis for his attraction]] tends to make people dislike him and dislike her more too.
* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1556 The False Equivalence Comic]], [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1781 which gets a callback here]], forgoes subtlety to hit the issue of gender representation right on the head.
* UnfortunateImplications: Or maybe just [[{{Hypocrite}} hypocrisy]], but Willis often makes points about just how terrible and oppressive and [[JerkAss just plain mean]] straight white males are by putting his own arguments in the mouths of minorities (gay men, black women, etc.). Since he is himself a straight white man, it could easily be considered appropriation, where he makes use of the struggles and trials of others to make his own points.
** [[http://www.shortpacked.com/2012/comic/book-14/03-totally-babies/imagine/ He also said that he makes comics on sexism for people who already agree with him]]. This was apparently in response to people asking him to try and be a little clearer, for the people who might misunderstand him (who are implicitly imaginary). [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1682 In the next comic]], he said that the people represented by the strawman were really just trying to "justify sexist attitudes". Because there couldn't possibly be any flaw on ''his'' end.
** Sexual assault, occasionally bordering on potential rape, is often played for comedy.
** Willis seems to see no issue with [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=886 exposing young children]] to sex and nudity. Recent pages having Ultra-Car pleasure Malaya in public view and even drawing a porn comic in which two parents try to have such loud sex the other will wake their child.
* VillainDecay: Mike is getting it ''hard'', leaving behind the central concept that he "just was" as he was.
** Although Mike was generally the flattest character in the Walkyverse for [[RuleOfFunny comedy]] [[RefugeInAudacity purposes]], he did have a few hints of depth every now and then, especially in his relationship with [[TheWoobie Dina]]. For example, [[http://www.itswalky.com/d/20031015.html this comment]] to Joe suggested that Mike may have actually cared for Dina and caused a firestorm of debate about Mike's character when the strip first aired.
** Faz even moreso. He has lost any semblance of power and has been so thoroughly defanged that he can no longer plausibly threaten Amber or Ethan - he's just a ButtMonkey now.
** HesBack. Mike's [[spoiler:marriage proposal]] to Amber is almost certainly his [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome Crowning Moment of...Being Mike]]. [[spoiler:A whole year ago he found out that Jacob had a crush on Amber, as well as a sex adiction. He had also promised that when Amber's mom Stacy came to visit, he ''wouldn't'' bang her. So he switched the numbers of their (his and Jacob's) appartments and stole Stacy's phone so that when she came back to look for it, she would end up knocking on the door of Jacob and get seduced by him. Then Mike recorded the resulting sounds and edited them into an actual marriage proposal]]. MagnificentBastard indeed.
*** But he only did that [[spoiler: because he loved her enough to try and get her to break up with him so she'd end up with something better. He had to ''get drunk'' (and turn into Nice!Mike) to do it because Asshole!Mike is too selfish to let her go.]]
* TheWoobie: Leslie. Poor, dumped-on Leslie.
** Considering Robin has decided to actually date her (...sort-of), Leslie will probably become a bit less of a Woobie. Unless their attempted-relationship ends badly.
*** [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=946 Triumph for]] TheWoobie?
*** [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1353 Not really, no.]]
*** [[http://www.shortpacked.com/index.php?id=1805 Triumph!]]
** Ken usually gets a lot of pity for his unrequited crush on Malaya. [[BaseBreaker When he's not getting slammed for it]].
