* {{Adorkable}}: Mark is a total goofball, awkward and overreacts to mundane things, but you gotta love him for it!
* AlasPoorScrappy: Yanagi is definitely not the easiest person to tolerate in Team Spring and you do not feel [[AssholeVictim too]] sad when he dies, but one cannot help but feel he shouldn't have become a breeding ground for insect larvea.
* AngstWhatAngst: How the [[BlatantLies kind teachers]] of [[TykeBomb Team Summer A]] though their charges would react to the Final Test. [[spoiler: Completely and horrifyingly subverted.]]
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Hana and Ango, among others. But those two stand out because fans of one tend to hate the other, due to their interactions in canon.
** Hana: Annoying girl who stole Natsu's spotlight, or a flawed but admirable girl who has an unfair advantage surviving in the post apocalyptic future because she was raised to do so, if less traumatically than the Summer A members.
** Ango: Either he's liked for his troubled past and hilarious reactions to Team Summer B, or hated for his attempt to rape Hana and his willingness to let her die.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The ''Applause'' chapter. It occurs between the penultimate and ultimate chapters of the ''Minor Heat Arc'' and features Hana, [[PutOnABus surviving the lethal situation she was previously in]], and... frolicking around with a group of young piglets and being "adopted" by their mother pig? [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And she is suddenly a little child]]? Until the final page, showing her at her regular age, determined to live in this world. It seems oddly placed and while it does somewhat explain where Hana is now, before the current arc switches over to the next one, it just seems so ''odd'' with the images of her as a small child that seemingly grows up at fast speed next to the little piglets, à la ''Literature/{{Heidi}}''.
* DieForOurShip: With such a large cast, several examples are popping up among the fans.
** Arashi/Hana/Aramaki. Some people find that Aramaki should stay away from Hana, since she's already dating Arashi and has been for a longer time than she's known Aramaki. Others find Hana's affection toward Aramaki to be a 'betrayal' towards Arashi. And the ones who prefer Hana and Aramaki wish that Hana and Arashi [[StarCrossedLovers don't find each other]] at all.
** Despite not being a known LoveTriangle up to now, Natsu/Arashi/Hana. Either Hana should break up with Arashi, because he's such a good influence on [[ShrinkingViolet Natsu]], or Natsu needs to focus on someone else and realize that she's only infatuated with Arashi because [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe he was the first nice guy to interact with her]].
** Finally, Arashi/Natsu/Semimaru, weird as it sounds, since Arashi doesn't seem to hold romantic feelings for Natsu. But some fans want Arashi to stop '[[ChickMagnet getting all the girls]]' and give Semimaru a chance already.
* HollywoodPudgy: When Team Summer B reunites after splitting up several chapters earlier, Semimaru mentions that the constant wandering, toiling around and general surviving has gotten rid of his excess fat and slight belly he had gotten from his lazy, smoking and drinking ways of living before being cryogenically frozen. We never get to see his 'belly fat', nor was he drawn differently.
* HoYay:
%%** Arashi and Ango.
%%** Arashi and Semimaru are close enough.
** Ango's obsession of Shigeru is downright disturbing. [[spoiler:Ryo, of all people, called him out of this.]]
*** Even before [[spoiler:Shigeru died]], they had their share of fuzzy moments together. One of such moments is when they shared a bed together due to Ango's fever, and [[spoiler:both had their first erections while sleeping.]] [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Cue Shigeru's freaking out.]]
** Ango and Ryo. Ryo cares of Ango's well-being so much, to the point that [[spoiler:Semimaru called it ''Ango Love''.]]
* IronWoobie: Takashi after Miho's HeroicSacrifice.
* MoralEventHorizon: Ukai crossed it when he [[spoiler: used Shigeru's good nature to lure Ango into a trap to kill him, then tried to shoot Shigeru]].
** Whether Takashi crossed it while he was one of the teachers during the Final Test or in the Ryugu Shelter [[spoiler: when he decided to cull some of the inhabitants, so that the others could live]] is unclear, though [[RedemptionEqualsDeath he redeems himself]].
* NeverLiveItDown: Justified since Ango tried to rape Hana.
* ParanoiaFuel: A ''very'' high chance of this whenever the cast stumbles upon some old abandoned shelter or ruin.
* RomanticPlotTumor: Depending on the reader, Hana's and Arashi's [[StarCrossedLovers romance]] feels like this. Taking potential screentime away from other couples that are slowly beginning to sprout between and across the teams.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Yanagi Tousei sacrificing himself to save the others from the killer mantis creatures, although it was meant to show that deep down he cared about the kids, feels very out of character more than anything else, considering how prior to that he verbally and physically abused the team members and attempted to ''rape'' Hana, all of that, combined with his misogynistic views of women, make his death come off as more cathartic and karmic than a moment of redemption.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: More a subplot, but Hana's attraction to Aramaki could ''easily'' have been given to almost any of the other female characters, like Fujiko or Akane, and given them more depth and expanded on their personality.
