* AntiClimaxBoss: Almost all the major enemies are fairly easy to kill: . The only exceptions could be Colosis, .
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The game is notably one of the few VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto clones of its time to feature original music playing during missions, most of it being 80's-style synths in the style of the Music/GiorgioMoroder's film soundtrack. Have a listen.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** In the outdoor part of the opening shootout, Tony's pet tiger suddenly comes out of nowhere, attacks one of Sosa's Mooks, and drags him away. Nobody even acknowledges this, and the shootout just resumes.
** In the South Beach area, it's possible to trigger a random cutscene of Tony watching a swimming girl talking smack to a Great White Shark, which then eats her.
* CatharsisFactor: The entirety of the prologue. There is nothing more stress-relieving than blowing away dozens upon dozens of Bolivians with Tony's iconic rifle and grenade launcher, which have infinite ammo, so go as crazy as you wish.
* DemonicSpiders: FGazooka, Good and GrenadeLauncher users all can OneHitKill Tony. Also the Pirates in the boat smuggling runs as they can easily destroy the boat Tony has to use.
* EsotericHappyEnding:
* GameBreaker: Getting good at the negotiation Quick-Time Event is useful not only for saving money when it's laundered and scoring drugs to sell, but can make the gang and cop heat mechanics all but a nonissue. For the latter two, one can simply negotiate with the gangs around Miami to drop gang heat, shoot all of them dead for the rewards and to remove the heat from that, then repeat whenever one wants gang heat down, then with the cops stand in the middle of the street with a firearm, wait for the cops to get aggravated enough for one to show up, then put your weapon away and negotiate to drop cop heat then repeat until it is zero, all without ever having to spend a cent to get either down and boosting one's balls at the same time.
* GoodBadBugs: The Microsoft Windows version has some humorous audio quirks (especially on slower computers), such as enemies screeching in extremely high-pitched Spanish during combat.
* MagnificentBastard: In this sequel to the classic 1983 movie, Tony Montana survives the fateful mansion shootout and vows to rebuild his empire from the ground up and destroy all his enemies in the process. Resolving to become a more sensible and honorable man, Tony kicks his cocaine addiction, learns to control and harness his rage, and refuses to ever harm an innocent again. Using his charisma and guile, Tony slowly takes over the Miami underworld by taking control of all his rivals' businesses and consolidating the supply and distribution of the local drug trade. Tony reestablishes his old contacts while securing valuable new allies to ruin the enterprise of his hated enemy Alejandro Sosa and eventually launch a raid on Sosa's mansion and kill him. His vengeance consumated, Tony Montana ultimately lives to enjoy his power and wealth content that finally the world is his.
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome:
** The opening level is the mansion gunfight. You have your little friend with infinite ammunition. It's time to clean house.
--->YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE ME? YOU NEED A FUCKING ARMY IF YOU GONNA TAKE ME!!! YOU HEAR? I TAKE YOU ALL TO FUCKING HELL!!!!!
** And one highlight is having Tony turn around and change history by wasting The Skull.
** After the Diaz brothers try to have Tony whacked and kill his mom, Tony drives to their place and pulls a Good out of the trunk of his car. He then walks right into their operation, revs up his chainsaw, and screams "You and your fuckin' brother are DEAD!" Cue RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
** The Final Level [[spoiler: has Tony give Sosa and his remaining associates a giant taste of LaserGuidedKarma, as Tony storms Sosa's mansion to kill him. All by himself, as a matter of fact]].
* SugarWiki/NoProblemWithLicensedGames: The game received favorable reviews, and was good enough at being a VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto-style WideOpenSandbox that Rockstar themselves took several of its gameplay elements (a crew you can keep track of through your phone, a ring based notoriety system based on getting out of the law's sight, and over the hood aiming) for VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIV.
* NotSoCheapImitation: See above. There's also the fact that the game was successful enough for the developers to develop Videogame/Prototype.
* OneSceneWonder: Jimmy, the paranoid drug dealer from the Sun Ray Redux mission.
* PortingDisaster: Though eventually patched, the PC version has a bug where placed decorations in mansion may disappear. There's also how the PC version of the game will not work on systems above Windows XP anymore (technically it still works but the renderer only produces garbled images, rendering anything but the menu unintelligible), without hacking through with a program called DX Ripper, and even then not all systems could work, rendering emulation or playing in consoles the only way to enjoy the game nowadays.
** This was eventually fixed with an unofficial patch by Polish game programmer Silent, allowing the game to be playable on modern systems.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Creator/WillaHolland provided some voice work for the game.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** The cop system is despised by just about everyone who's played the game. If you aggravate the cops too much, you will be prompted to "Lose the cops!" and have to escape from them as the white Cop Exposure bar fills red. If it fills up all the way, as the game itself says, "You're fucked": The cops will just torment you to no end until you die, which you most likely will, very quickly. While it is possible to escape, it's very, very difficult. Especially later in the game when they start laying down tire shredders. Cops are on your tail? No problem, you can easily outrun them in your turbocharged Rattler. Run over the tire shredder (which is usually at every escape choke point) and it's worthless, forcing you to get out and jack someone's Jeep to make your escape.
** Tony's refusal to shoot civilians, while an impressive showing of GameplayAndStoryIntegration, can cost some players a mission in a heated gun battle. Nothing is more annoying than shooting at some enemy gun men in the middle of the street and having Tony suddenly stop firing because an innocent woman is in the way. Naturally, enemies are not bound to this game mechanic and will gladly take advantage of it to the fullest. Fortunately at least during Blind Rage mode Tony will shoot Civilians to hit enemies without a problem.
** Rival gangs attacking your businesses when you are collecting money from them. For no clearly explained reason you can only do this as a full round where you pick up money from every business in one go. It's not so bad when you have taken over only the left half of the map. Once you have spread to the other side, there is a good chance a business will be attacked so far away from your current location it is literally impossible for you to get there on time to save it. You can hire guards to protect your businesses, but they never manage to repel attacks by themselves and only serve to buy you time to get there and handle things in person. Once a business has been wrecked you don't get money from there, and have to spend more to repair it and put up new protection. As a cherry on top, there is the separate activity of taking over territories from gangs. Even if you have taken over 100% of the gang territories, somehow that does nothing to prevent the attacks during money collection.
** In order to save the game other than mission completions, the dirty money must be laundered in the bank via proxy meter if you didn't have purchased the financial bonus in which requires to hold a button to fill the indicator which can be difficult at times as the circle indicator it passes away from the full indicator causing massive money loss especially if have millions of dirty money.
* ThatOneBoss:
** Colosis is undoubtedly the hardest boss in the whole game. Not only is quick to cover himself in the walls and boxes, he can survive a staggering number of bullets, he sends you to a lot of henchmen at his disposal, and he shoots you with a grenade launcher that could easily kill you with one or two shots.
** [[spoiler:Sosa himself can be one if you refuse to attack him with rage mode. He can survive a staggering number of bullets and shoots you with a Deagle, the most powerful handgun in the game.]]
* ThatOneLevel: The Babylon Club front mission is a massive difficulty spike considering that it is an EscortMission. It involves you to protect the VIP and escort it to the door. The enemies appear in infinite waves and you're welding a Desert Eagle which although it is one of the most advanced than the Automatic 45 and deals more damage than the former, it has a very slow rate of fire which thankfully it is possible to also wield the Micro SMG, but i doesn't ease the mission not even in Blind Rage mode as the enemies can not only easily kill you if you don't pay attention to the health bar and activate the "MEDIK" cheat, but your VIP too.
