* CultClassic: The game received little fanfare when it came out, and was quickly overshadowed by the later more popular ''Franchise/{{Disgaea}}'' titles. Nevertheless, the charming characters, lighthearted atmosphere and catchy songs, and NISA's standard of hilarious scripts made it an obscure favorite.
* EnjoyTheStorySkipTheGame: The first game's dungeons' designs are made on a budget. The battles even on the hardest difficulty won't be throwing game-overs at you, the lore itself can be downright confusing, and lots of unanswered questions are abound. Many don't care, as they're interested in the game's musical numbers, the colorful interactions between characters, the witty humor, and watching the girl saving the prince for once.
* GirlShowGhetto: The likely candidate for the game's obscurity. Released when role-playing games were expected to be dark with reasonably complex plots, the adorable sprites and soft painted backgrounds, breezy story, and fairy tale tone would've had an uphill battle at best. The fact that it was an RPG expressly aimed at little girls getting into the genre (a demographic rarely catered to even to this day) wasn't doing it any favors.
* ItsEasySoItSucks: By far the biggest complaint of the game is its extremely soft difficulty. Most battles can be won with auto-fighting turned on, you can count the number of battles where the tactical positions mean anything on one hand, and the enemies tend to deal so little damage the puppets are rarely needed, despite their prominence in the story.
* NarmCharm: The game runs on this. The script and especially the musical numbers tow the line between tongue-in-cheek parody and just plain cheesy. Sub or dub, the songs have simplistic rhyme schemes with very lighthearted lyrics, but the singing is genuinely good.
* ThatOneBoss:
** Fighting Fon-Fon in Crowdia's body in Act 8 of the second game, mainly thanks to being accompanied by three Cockatrices that can petrify the entire party in a single turn if they aren't killed quickly enough.
** Kururu facing off against her parents at the end of her chapter in the third game courtesy of King Ferdinand's ability to instantly KO an entire team while Queen Cornet keeps them and their seemingly-unending reinforcements of soldiers healed up. If Ferdinand decides to ShootTheMedicFirst by targeting Kururu (the only one with natural full-party healing), the battle's already lost.
** The final battle against the Ancient Weapon in Cherie's chapter in the third game is heavily luck-based as it has [=AoE=] attacks that can damage and poison the entire party or deal upwards of 300+ damage. If it decides to spam those attacks, the party's not going to survive without grinding to at least level 25 or higher.
* ThatOneLevel: Pekonyan's chapter in the third game is just one big FetchQuest for ingredients within the enormous, maze-like Subspace Castle and, even after she manages to recruit the members of the Akurjo family, they don't even help out in battle because the small-fry monsters (and the Small Overlord) are NotWorthKilling in their eyes.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Due to technical reasons, there wasn't enough space to keep the dubbed songs on the DS's significantly lower audio quality. Most fans weren't happy and it's the biggest complaint about the port. The removal of bonus chapters and cameos that tie in to the sequels that [[NoExportForYou never left Japan]] in the US version are also a sore spot with fans.
