* AdaptationDisplacement: The comic is more well-known than the toy it was based on.
* CompleteMonster: [[HalfHumanHybrid Hybrid]] is the aptly-named son of a reformed Dire Wraith and a human woman. Born James Marks, he had been secretly trained by other Dire Wraiths in their dark arts, excelling but becoming cold and power-hungry to the point the Wraiths realized they made something even they feared. At age 15, he renounces his humanity and takes the name "Hybrid", using wraith magic to [[SelfMadeOrphan age his mother to death and murder his own father during his first battle with Rom]]. He decides to conquer Earth by having [[SuperBreedingProgram humans and wraiths breed a new race like himself]], with him as leader taking any mates he fancies. [[WoundedGazelleGambit Pretending to be a helpless child]] to the ComicBook/XMen, he tricks them into fighting Rom, before attacking both sides and attempting his plan with Kitty before dissolving. Able to reconstruct, he allied himself with the female members of the Brotherhood of Mutants before they realize he planned on raping them. He would continue reconstructing during Rom's adventures on Earth, which saw him commit actions like attempting to rape Brandy and brutally assaulting Torpedo, leaving him for dead. Many years later, he is rescued by the students of ComicBook/AvengersAcademy from Purifiers, murdering the attackers to keep his identity a secret. He takes over the academy, planning to feed of the superhumans, only sparing the females to breed with. An attempted rapist with world conquering ambitions, Hybrid is among the worst Rom has ever faced.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Rom himself is a rare example of the main character being this, due to him being no longer able to appear in the greater Marvel Universe after his comic ended. If someone knows about Rom, chances are they want to see him back in action.
* FridgeHorror: Some of you might wonder how the female Wraiths were going to reproduce after killing off their males. Here's a possible answer...they weren't! They may have turned into {{Death Seeker}}s and {{Omnicidal Maniac}}s. In other words, they wanted to destroy everyone and everything and they didn't care if they died, as long as everything else died with them!
** Although given that this is the Marvel Universe, and that they're powerful sorcerers, it's possible that they were just planning to use magic or cloning technology to reproduce- both of those are in abundance there.
* HilariousInHindsight: Starshine, after suffering the death of her family and friends at the hands of the female wraiths, transforms into a different looking armor while being motivated by nothing but anger. This sounds too similar to the first time Goku transformed into a [[GoldenSuperMode Super Saiyan]] in ''Anime/DragonBallZ''. Even ROM words to describe her are similar to the Super Saiyan.
--> '''ROM''': She is a goddess - transformed by her grief into a vengeful deity!
* MemeticBadass: Rom himself.
* {{Narm}}: The Galador space-knights armors are very [[MerchandiseDriven toy-like]] in their designs, but they all look very cool... except for Starshine, an armored woman with a strange head design, looking like some sort of cog with a ponytail. In issue 50, however, her design evolves after a RageBreakingPoint, looking like a female gladiator.
* NightmareFuel - The female Wraiths
** Hybrid. Just... [[http://winterdrake.com/images/deh/hybrid.jpg Hybrid]].
** At one point, Rom gets a human body again- [[BodyHorror but it wasn't built to last]].
* TearJerker - There were many, but one of the most notable is when Rom believed a little girl he'd spent the whole issue trying to save had died. He cradled the body in his arms, and [[ComicBook/SubMariner Namor]] heard him making soft choking sounds and realized that as a cyborg, he [[AndIMustScream couldn't shed tears.]] [[spoiler: Namor's medics are actually able to save her, but they have to turn her into a water-breather to do it. She seems okay with that, and Rom is of course relieved.]]
** [[JerkAssWoobie Serpentyne's]] backstory, a mutated creature who fought Comicbook/MsMarvel in the past. After his fight with her, his kind decided to leave humankind peacefully, freeing the humans slaves they had. Unfortunately, one of those humans was a Dire Wraith, and he told the elders about it. Poor Serpentyne species was wiped out, leaving him, in his words, as a "friendless avenger in a lonely world". [[spoiler: He went mad with the thought of avenging his people, attacking Rom, who didn't had any intention of fighting, and accidentally died in the process. What's worse is that Serpentyne is also a metaphor for Rom himself, and a possible dark foreshadowing of his ultimate fate.]]
** Probably the biggest one in the series is the fate of [[spoiler: the town of Clairton, the comic's original main setting. It drives Brandy mad with grief and sets her on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge that lasts for most of the rest of the comic.]]
** Unam the Unseen's final fate. [[spoiler: He'd been a very sympathetic character when we'd last seen him, but Rom and a few remaining Spaceknights find him alone on some desolate world, where he'd been using his invisibility powers to torment a colony of now de-powered and therefore harmless Dire Wraiths. Rom calls him out for his cruelty to a helpless, defeated enemy, and Unam falls to his knees in shame at his HeelRealization.]]
