* AccidentalAesop: Walk with your kids to school to make sure they don't run off or get kidnapped by strangers.
* AlasPoorScrappy: Lampwick may be a spoiled brat like the rest of the kids that come to Pleasure Island, but his ultimate fate is far beyond what he deserves.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: The Coachman. A theory is that he's a karmic trickster, like an Anti-Blue Fairy. (His coat is even red). While she has children learn from their misdeeds and sends them towards redemption, he punishes them for their stupidity and misdeeds by transforming them into donkeys. His nightmare face implies that he might be a supernatural creature, like the Blue Fairy.
* {{Anvilicious}}:
** The fairy gives Pinocchio a lecture about lying, obviously meant as {{an Aesop}} for the audience.
** Also the bit "If you don't go to school, you'll become a donkey". Justified in that barely any Italian kids went to school when the book was written.
** Don't be an actor. They have no conscience.
*** {{Some|AnvilsNeedToBeDropped}} [[NiceCharacterMeanActor Anvils]] [[DepravedKidsShowHost Need]] [[SmallNameBigEgo to]] [[ItsAllAboutMe Be]] [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney Drop]][[ScrewTheRulesImBeautiful ped]].
*** Might also could as SelfDeprecation, what with this being a film.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The whole soundtrack can count, but special mention goes to "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2Us3PfJfkY When You Wish Upon a Star]]". That one song was so good, it became Disney's de facto theme song. The song and score both won Oscars.
** When the American Film Institute held a poll for the 100 greatest songs used in American films, "When You Wish Upon a Star" came in ''seventh place'' - higher than any other Disney song.
* CompleteMonster: The Coachman. Seemingly a kindly old gentleman, he lures a bunch of troublesome boys to an island where they can do whatever they want without adult supervision, and laces their cigars and beer with something that, when they act like jerks, [[BalefulPolymorph turns them into donkeys]] he then sells as ordinary animals. From what he says to "Honest" John and Gideon, he has been doing this for years, and the police have never caught him because by the time they arrive, the boys have already become donkeys, leaving no evidence that they were even there. The transformed boys who can still talk are locked up in a pen (it is unclear what becomes of them, though [[YouDoNotWantToKnow we're probably better off not knowing]]). Worst of all, he is a KarmaHoudini[[note]]Although you do kick his ass in the SNES game of the same name.[[/note]].
* DesignatedVillain: Monstro. He's classified as a villain since he deliberately tries to eat Pinocchio and Geppetto after they escape from inside him...but as the book "The Encyclopedia of Disney Characters" puts it, if someone lit a fire inside ''you'', you probably wouldn't be very happy with them either.
** MeanCharacterNiceActor: Monstro even guest-starred as a good guy in a ''WesternAnimation/{{Bonkers}}'' comic story. According to this comic, he is a well mannered but destructive (due to his size) Toon actor who has not had much work since this film.
* EarWorm: The soundtrack has remained in public conscience for over 70 years now, and not ''just'' the film's BootstrappedTheme.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Stromboli, mainly due to the [[ChewingTheScenery over-the-top]] [[LargeHam hamminess]] of the voice actor.
-->"I WILL POOOSH YOU IN DE PUBLIC'S EYE!"
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: There's a fair {{f|urryFandom}}ollowing around the two animal villains in the Japanese fandom. Foulfellow being as [[CunningLikeAFox cunning]] and as handsome as he is might've helped. Gideon is often paired with him [[HoYayShipping to some degree]].
* GeniusBonus: One of the possible translations of the name Gideon means "feller of trees", Pinocchio is made of wood after all.
* JerkassWoobie: It's really hard not to feel sorry for Lampwick after he becomes one of the Coachman's many victims.
* HilariousInHindsight: The [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Lobster Red Lobster]] Inn.
** Jiminy was originally designed to look more like a real cricket, with toothed legs and waving antenna, but Walt [[WhatMeasureIsANonCute didn't think that looked appealing enough.]] [[Disney/{{Mulan}} 58 years later]], Disney managed to create a cricket with that design and make him look cute.
* HoYay: Like it or not, Pinocchio/Lampwick (a.k.a [[PortmanteauCoupleName Pinocchwick]]) is becoming a rather popular ship. Due to their ages, it also counts as ToyShip.
** There are people who notice their interactions in the film and they tend to point out the certain moments that screamed OppositesAttract, hence this pairing. Pinocchio clearly looks up to him and Lampwick seems to be enjoying the attention. Some like how his bad boy quality played off on Pinocchio's innocence. Make of that what you will. Oh, wait...never mind.
* MagnumOpus: Considered to be a possible candidate for Disney.
* MemeticMutation: The Coachman's nightmare face, to a degree.
-->"They never come back... [[NightmareFuel as BOYS!!!]]"
** Mama...Mamaaaaa-HEEHAWHEEHAWHEEHAW!!!
** Associating a person lying with his/her nose growing.
** Almost everything [[LargeHam Stromboli]] does.
*** "[[BigShutUp QUIET! SHUT UP!]] Before I knock-a you silly!"
*** Him and his big, fat [[PrecisionFStrike ass]].
-->"Constantinopalee!"
* MoralEventHorizon: The Coachman crosses this when he turns all the boys into donkeys and sells them to the Salt Mines, Circus, etc.
* MostWonderfulSound: ''"You have no strings, your arms is free, to love me by the Zuider Zee"''
* MsFanservice: The Blue Fairy. Believe it or not, this was more of an accident - Walt Disney originally wanted the character to be beautiful, but not like a glamour girl. In the end, the animators were said to have based her on model/actress Jean Harlow and Walt approved the final design.
* {{Narm}}: It's difficult to take the SNES game seriously because of all the ridiculous sound effects!
* NauseaFuel: When Pinocchio inhales the whole cigar with one breath, and first turns red and then green.
* NightmareFuel: Stromboli's speech about someday turning Pinnochio into fire wood. The Coachman's NightmareFace, Lampwick's transformation and Monstro.
* OnceAcceptableTargets: Honest John briefly mentions that Stromboli is a Gypsy.
* UncannyValley: Pinocchio's human form, if you're used to seeing him as a puppet.
* TearJerker: [[spoiler: Pinocchio's apparent death.]] Also included should be the AdultFear moment when Geppetto walks desperately through pouring rain in search of Pinocchio when he doesn't come from school. His increasingly desperate cries of "Pinocchio!" ringing out while his puppet-son is unknowingly being carted away just in front of him is pretty agonizing for anyone who's ever been in charge of the welfare of another.
** Oddly, enough. [[spoiler: you can't even help but feel sorry for Lampwick during the transformation scene. It's not a good view seeing him while he desperately gets down on his knees and begs Pinocchio and asking for Jiminy's help.]]
* TheWoobie: Geppetto. Seriously, he first desperately looks for his kid, then he get swallowed along Figaro and Cleo in the belly of a whale where he risks to die starving.
** Pinocchio. The poor kid's naivety leads him to some really awful situations.
