* AdaptationDisplacement: For many people, Onslaught is better known through his appearance as the end boss in ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcomClashOfSuperHeroes''.
* ArcFatigue: What exactly is the full story of Onslaught? Well, try reading the trades which are roughly two hundred pages a pop. Oh, there are four trades by the way.
* AudienceAlienatingEra: Took place during quite a few, including ''ComicBook/TheCloneSaga'' (and was the reason for the final delay for the end of it), the aftermath of ''ComicBook/TheCrossing'', noseless and bone-claw Wolverine, and had some of Joseph's earliest appearances. While it mercy-killed the stuff caused by ''The Crossing'', it also led into ''ComicBook/HeroesReborn'', but between this, ''Heroes Reborn'', and ''ComicBook/HeroesReturn'', a lot of what happened in ''The Crossing'' was undone.
* FanNickname: Onslaught's evolved form is sometimes affectionately (or not so affectionately) called "Crab Onslaught" by fans, especially in the toy collecting community.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments:
** When Bishop apologizes to Gambit for mistakingly believing him to be a traitor.
** ComicBook/{{Quicksilver}} protecting ComicBook/TheVision during the final battle, even though both men ''hate'' one another.
-->
* HilariousInHindsight: Scarlet Witch's status as the only mutant able to sacrifice herself to Onslaught, explained here with the AssPull that her hex somehow protected her, makes more sense after the later, controversial retcon that she and her brother were never mutants at all.
* HollywoodHypeMachine: Or Marvel Hype Machine, in this instance. Only fans who were reading comics at the time this crossover was released will remember just how '''hard''' Marvel worked to make Onslaught ''happen''. A slight taste can be gleaned from checking out covers from Marvel comics released during the time period, at least half if not more of which will obnoxiously plug a "SPECIAL ONSLAUGHT UPDATE INSIDE". Unsurprisingly, this has led to quite the HypeBacklash among the older and crustier segment of the Marvel Comics fandom where Onslaught is concerned.
* ItWasHisSled: Onslaught is a split personality of Professor Xavier's and was created when he attacked Magneto following the latter ripping out the Adamantium from Wolverine in ''ComicBook/FatalAttractionsMarvelComics''.
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: ''Marvel Universe: Onslaught'' was pretty damn epic.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Onslaught's famous "BEHOLD MY MIGHTY HAND!" line was actually recycled from the ''ComicBook/{{Blood Ties|MarvelComics}}'' crossover, where it was first spoken by ''Blood Ties'' BigBad Exodus.
* TheScrappy: The titular BigBad Onslaught is infamous in X-Men fan circles as one of the most blatant ExecutiveMeddling-enforced villains ever, and among some fans the ire over him and this crossover (and specifically how hard editorial pushed it back in the day) edges on Hatedom levels. Jeanne of the classic Marvel baddie fansite [[http://www.oocities.org/marvel_villains/badguys.html Bring on the Bad Guys]] went on a pretty epic rant about the character on his [[https://web.archive.org/web/20011031160013/http://www.sigma.net:80/burch/onslaught.html begrudgingly-posted character page]]. Old-school comic review site [[https://web.archive.org/web/20080224091446/http://thexaxis.com/reviews.html the X-Axis]] also disliked the character and castigated him in their reviews. He was RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap to a degree by his use in ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcomClashOfSuperHeroes'', though.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: A villain born out Xavier's and Magneto's mentality sounds like he could have been an interesting character, but swift MotiveDecay made him a GenericDoomsdayVillain.
