* HoYay: There are some vibes of this between Banning and Asher, especially Banning acting like a second father to Conner and Asher essentially playing the role of [[DistressedDude McClane's wife]] from ''Film/DieHard'' complete with Banning's rescue redeeming himself in the president's eyes!
* {{Narm}}:
** The invasion of the White House is pretty hilarious in its lack of realism to anyone with any sense of survival instincts or has ever actually seen Washington, DC. Rather than think "my god, they're so CrazyPrepared" it's impossible not to laugh at the ridiculousness of the Korean attack.
** The Secretary of Defense pledging allegiance to the flag. Yes, it's supposed to show how she's DefiantToTheEnd, but the way she's wailing it while being dragged off by the hair reeks of this.
** A shot of the flag atop the White House waving full of holes? A poetic end to the attack sequence. A full sequence with the bad guys lowering the flag and throwing it to the lawn, ending with a long, dramatic, slow-motion sequence of the obvious CGI flag falling? Eh, maybe that's a bit pushing it.
** A relatively minor example: one NK markswoman takes up a position to take down some police officers responding to the scene. The issue here is she brings a spotter, despite engaging the police at a range that's likely within 100 meters. For the uninformed, snipers typically engage at ranges of 800+ meters, where a spotter is justified by having to do the work of on-the-spot calculations and keep an eye on potential threats approaching. At close engagement ranges, as in the film, an assault rifle bullet is effectively traveling in a straight line, making a spotter unnecessary and rather silly. Even funnier: the sniper gets all of four good shots off before Banning demonstrates some serious ImprobableAimingSkills and pops her in the head from a greater distance ''with his service pistol''.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: A disconcerting amount of the CGI (especially the anti-air missile battery on top of the White House when it fires at the C-130 and the destruction of the Washington Monument) is about a decade out of date. Made worse when compared to ''White House Down'', which was released within the same timeframe.
* SpiritualLicensee:
** ''Olympus Has Fallen'' and its competitor, ''Film/WhiteHouseDown'', are considered to be better ''Franchise/DieHard'' movies than ''Film/AGoodDayToDieHard''.
** With Banning's background as former special forces and his extended sneaking through a government facility to stop terrorists from detonating nukes activated by three codes, many have said that all you need to add is a mind reading psychic and a walking tank and you have a ''VideoGame/MetalGear'' movie.
